i saw this musical 3 times in new york and it was amazing. i would recommend it to everyone! i just have one question....when is the soundtrack coming out!?
@laneuhsayWHA i do not think they will ever come out with a soundtrack i wish they would because i love james snyder and his voice is so hot. i hope they also go on tour with crybaby the musical
i though that cry-baby was pretty good. i didn't really think it was worthy of a tony nomination for best musical, but i enjoyed seeing it. i really hope in the heights wins.
I saw the show for the third time yesterday after they announced that Cry-Baby was up for 4 Tony nominations including best musical. Way to go Cry-Baby!!! The show's great. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good time. ;)
it's really upsetting that they didn't use any songs from the movie...it's almost like a completely different play (except the characters have the same name). Nothing can beat the movie! I love "Please Mr. Jailer"...and Johnny Depp haha
Lyricist D.Javerbaum's too-clever-by-half rhymes are a bit exhausting (he has one well-used thesaurus), and the lyrics don't respect the characters enough (Crybaby's intro "Nobody Gets Me"). J.Snyder needs to be a little more edgy/dangerous as Crybaby, gets no help from the lyrics. Hack story line (even for a franchise vehicle like this), and perfunctory ending. But great tunes/dancing, H.Harris makes it feel like Bway, and Alli Mauzey is GREAT as the insane admirer.
Saw the show twice in San Diego. Wish I could've seen it a few more times. Such a fun show with amazing music, choreography, and humor. Do not miss this show. Catch it before it's a film.
Ha ha. Of course. Catch it before it's the film version of the stage musical based on the movie musical. Did I leave anything out? Oh yeah...and buy a t-shirt too. ;)
I know when I saw Wade"Cry Baby"Williams, I was like what the hell. It's suppose to be Walker, Wade Walker has a ring. And Allison's last name is Williams.
OMG.. I seen the preview on Broadway March 20th!! And... it was AMAZING!!!!! I went in not knowing a whole lot about the musical. I love the movie, so I just figured it would similar to that. I knew it would different, just like Hairspray! But, it was so much more amazing than I expected!! They were incredible!! So much talent in that one show! Definitely going to be a huge success!!
Hey, thedarksrusader; had a question about the show. Forgive me if I'm outta touch, and getting the movie to rent this week; I've only seen clips of the movie Cry Baby here on YouTube. My question is, is there music from the movie in the Broadway show? Like the opening song in the movie "Cry Baby", and "Sha-Boom, Sha-Boom"? Just curious. Thanks!
Hey roclith. It's cool.. I actually haven't seen the movie either so I'm a bit out of touch as well. I feel bad because a lot of people have asked me that as well and I still have yet to see the movie. Sorry I couldn't be of any help but if I find out, I'll post!
There are no songs from the movie in the musical. Its all original music as well as some plot changes, but nothing drastic. It's alot like the slight changes between the original movie of hairspray and the broadway musical.
Somehow that's incredibly upsetting. I still would love to see it, but I just love the music in that movie so much. I grew up on Cry Baby, one of the movies as a little kid that helped me really like Johnny Depp. My favorite song is Please, Mr. Jailer.
Too interesting for generic broadway. No stars from American Idol, or a toothy Osmond look alike. It didn't make it.

Who could have believe Waters would inspire Broadway musicals, back in his "Pink Flamingo" time ?
HAIRSPRAY and CRY-BABY were fun movies. Hope I could see the shows someday.
