  • @baar34 Explane?

  • not gonna lie, the only reason I decided to check this band out is because of their sick ass name. wolves in the throne room. fuckin orgasmic, isnt it?

  • I just heard your interview from the archives of Expanding Minds last night and everything you said I really connected with. Demons, sorrow for lost connections to nature and heritage, the NW forests, etc. Growing up in Seattle I had a melancholic childhood. Great music, and great message. It's okay to mourn.

  • Lol. It's like Enya was in a metal band in high school.

  • @allrequiredfields Fucking had me loling for a good minute and a half. Well played sir.

  • @allrequiredfields Ha! Nailed it there, ARF. And I've got nothing against Enya. A bit of Sigur Ros in there, too, I think.

  • 4:08

  • Once it get's going it's excellent!

  • All you guys know this song is fucking terrible right? Any black metal band with any talent at all becomes extreme metal.

  • @GloryThyName fuck you ass

  • @GloryThyName This is one of the greatest songs of all time. You, sir, wouldn't know good music if it came up behind and fucked you. Go and listen to your shitty "extreme metal".

  • @GloryThyName Its people like you that are the reason cradle of filth is more popular than nargaroth

  • @mokora Ignorant moron, Cradle of Filth made good music which made them popular.

  • @GloryThyName even more so ignorant moron. cradle of filth has put a big brown stain on black metal, for which, they can never be forgiven.

  • @mokora elitist retard you genre was shit to start with.

  • @GloryThyName Then why are you here? go listen to icp and enjoy your circle jerk like a normal juggalo

  • A masterpiece. Nothing more to say!

  • I don't care where black metal band come from nowadays. As long as they can keep real black metal sound and atmosphere. pure dark artwork <3

  • 42 persons doesn't understand what is good music.

  • First Black Metal comes out of Norway, then Sweden, then pretty much ever other Scandanavian country; now it's coming out of Washington State?! Damn I should feel proud!

  • stop calling it metal, this is just..beyond. I love them.

  • didn't know america could make good music

  • @Brjostabarn cmon really?

  • @Brjostabarn Ignorance of the highest degree.

  • @colorblindvids im actually born in America

  • @Brjostabarn That makes it worse.

  • @Brjostabarn Good music as music per se, or good metal music?

  • @Brjostabarn You just have to look

  • @Brjostabarn americans pay them to live there :p

  • @Brjostabarn ye there is probably a lot of things you don't know pal.

  • @Brjostabarn America makes some of the best music!

  • @Brjostabarn whether your music is good, isn't restricted to what country you are from

  • @Brjostabarn lol.. guess you've never heard of agalloch

  • Hey everyone: while I'm on youtube, I'm going to write an essay regarding the band, and not pay attention to the "music"

  • Long intro but gets really good after four minutes.

  • Trying to be "100% Black Metal badasses in the name of Satan" is rediculous, I'll give you that. Still, if you're going to play Black Metal, actually play music that sounds like Black Metal, not vaguely depressive folkish rock. I'm not gonna hate on this band, because they do sound pretty good in their own way, but I won't pretend they sound like Black Metal.

  • @HoundofOdin who cares about pretentious genre labels anyways? The band members themselves have said that they resist being labeled a mere Black Metal band, but instead draw a lot of inspiration from it and other progressive 'metal' genres and bands. So what are they? avant garde black metal, progressive black metal? The only thing that matters is they know how to write intoxicating music that has genuine feeling and meaning, and such nuances transcend classification.

  • "Pretentious genre labels" are just helpful terms used to group bands with similar styles, that way people have an easier time finding bands they like. It's a lot easier to type in "Death Metal bands" on Google search than to type in "bands with fast paced heavily distorted guitar, deep gutteral vocals, and lyrical themes usually involving but not limited to violence". If they don't want to be classified into a particular subgenre, they should just call themselves Heavy Metal.

  • @HoundofOdin Oh, I agree there. Labels are helpful for simplifying things. I still consider Wolves in the Throne Room to be a kind of black metal band. However, you said that "if you're going to play Black Metal, actually play music that sounds like Black Metal, not vaguely depressive folkish rock." First of all, Black Metal has a long history of taking elements from folk music and folklore (see Ulver, Burzum, Emperor etc), and secondly, I'd rather that not every 'black metal' band sound alike.

  • @HoundofOdin my point is that Wolves in the Throne Room is gladly not another Burzum/Mayhem knock off, and have developed their own unique sound within the genre. That's what we call 'progress' my friend, and it helps keep the scene alive and interesting. If you're looking for a more straight forward approach to the genre, look elsewhere, the scene is rife with them. No need to complain about one band that does it a little bit differently.

  • My point is that they don't sound like Black Metal. I do like them, but they have far too many differences and lack a few qualities that would make them Black Metal. They don't want to be classified, so it's not a problem for them, but I would be kinda irritated if I went to a club promising a live Black Metal show, and then the band started playing something that sounds more like orchestra with distorted guitars and a screamer.

  • @HoundofOdin I can see your point; expectation vs. reality. Still, I find that WitTR sound very much like black metal at times. The riff starting 5:16 sounds like classic black metal to me, in the vein of early Emperor. Also the atmosphere is very reminiscent of the 2nd wave of black metal in Scandinavia; ancient, raw, and mythical in feel and scope. When it comes down to it, everyone hears music differently. I have broad tastes for the genre myself, ranging from Arckanum to Blut Aus Nord.

  • @HoundofOdin Many progressive forms of metal have alienated the purist fans when first introduced. Ever listen to Atheist? They were apart of the death metal scene in the late 80's/early 90's. When they first started playing shows, a lot of the audience was confused by their performances. They had a very idiosyncratic way of incorporating jazz fusion and latin elements into their sound, and many were not ready for it. Looking back, they're among the most influential in prog metal.

  • @OutwardObserver2099 you're a a juden-animal type person

  • Yes, to the darkest place that we know

    Outside of the rider's domain

To the heart of the wood

To the hidden places beyond the briar thickets

    Mesmerazing.

  • Comment removed

  • jesus christ listen to that fucking drummer

  • If you like WITTR, please listen to Lunar Aurora. Also, please PM me if there are any similar non-American bands that you can recommend.

  • @hemmelighetdirtyru Why non-american?

  • from now on this band has become one of my favs

  • I just spent 40 minutes reading comments and i just want you guys to know I love you. Now I will place my headphones over my ears and once again go to sleep listening to WITTR

  • @hauntedshore204 Dude, I love you too!

  • @hauntedshore204 Hahaha yes! dude I do that almost every night!

  • this is fucking HURTING.

  • i never comment in videos but this shit is beautiful.

  • @OutwardObserver2099 wow, fuckin every video, really, just shut up and listen to the music

  • This track is so sick.

  • anybody knows who is singing at first?

  • @drugfreeveganpunk Jessica Kinney I think her name is. This is probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • @drugfreeveganpunk She's the daughter (I think - but definitely related) to their sound engineer. She also did few cameos in their latest album, Celestial Lineage.

  • I fucking love this band!! Yes !!!!

  • The faggotry in the comments section makes me sad.

Love this band it nice to see the US adding to the black metal scene.

  • beautiful music, hideous ideology

  • @OutwardObserver2099 lol. i actually made my own for halloween using an old pair of pants, cardboard from a box of fish sticks and nails, even made my own straps.

but i couldnt agree anymore, i wonder how people would see these guys if they were from norway or something you know, its like just because their a band from the northwest (washington) their not true.

  • This band defines the musical artist I wish to be

  • @OutwardObserver2099 Best. Comeback. Ever.

  • I dig living in Olympia \m/

  • @The432936a hey dude im thinking about moving there, what's the metal scene like? And i dont mean just "Black Metal" but like everykind of metal? (Except glam rock)

  • @sydsannath I'm from a small town called Belfair, located 1 hour north of olympia. there is quite a bit of local metal around the area. a good example is a band called Super Happy Story Time Land. they r a technical death metal band that is themed around comedy and happy things. most of the metal bands aren't signed so you have to check the local venues for good shows. most of the bands I've seen were mainly heavy metal to death metal. its a good, dark, wet place to write music. i like it here.

  • @daltonplaysthesax thanks dude. lotsa good venues? can you turn me on to any good myspaces/facebooks of some ba local metallers?

  • @sydsannath No Living Witness is a good death metal band from Olympia, Jedediah the Pilot is another good band but not quite as advanced, Jack Havok and Super Happy Story Time Land are both from sequim. as for venues, I don't know very many, but ther's 1 in Bremerton called "The Charleston" that hosts a lot of local metal shows. the Thelar Center in Belfair has metal shows that they put on and the Boys and Girls club in Sequim hosts local metal shows as well. there r lots of venues inn Seattle

  • @daltonplaysthesax sweet. I'm going to Perpich Arts High School (in MInnesota) next year then perhaps taking a road trip out to Olympia (cause that's where my friend with a car is going) that I don't necessarily intend on coming back from. Anyway, my plan is to join as many bands as possible. We should stay in touch. How competitive is it getting jobs out there?

  • @daltonplaysthesax would you say you're the "prince" of belfair.

  • @DustyWulf1 no. its a town with one big road and a Mcdonalds

  • @sydsannath well.. me being in a metal band.. i would say that it is OKAY. its mostly punk and "Evergreen Alternative" these days.. but there are a few metal bands out there. Seattle has some serious kick ass metal though.

  • @The432936a So I should move to Seattle Instead? ha, i was thinkin about evergreen as a college, but if it's just singer-songwriters and "alt-rock"...ehhh

  • @sydsannath If you want to go to Evergreen for college, do it. but dont expect any massive metal heads to be attending school there. Seattle would be ideal for the exposure and whatnot. El Corazon is one place that always has good shows.

  • @The432936a El Corazon is a terrible venue though, so awkward.

  • @hapexamendios Better than the venues in olympia.

  • @sydsannath yah the metal community is pretty small (except for when Slayer comes to town) but we are strong and represent metal best. plus we have a lot of killer local bands like Sword of Judgement, Phalgeron or Book of Black Earth

  • 40 people got frost bite from the grimness and clicked the wrong button.

  • @Ollieaxman No, i really "don't" like it. I like the first part. But post 4 minutes, it doesn't really sounds like music to me, but i understand other people might like it.

  • @Olejsky Sounds like You're in the wrong place then mate, don't listen to Black Metal if You don't like it.

  • Will you people shut up? Grow up, please.

  • I found heaven.

  • I don't think their sound is so unique, but it's damn good. Much better than dozens & dozens of german "black metal" bands.

  • Youtube : a place where we learn about grammar and silly arguments that has nothing to do with the song/video.

    You never disappoint.

  • @SamritpalSingh

    Grammar is pretty important, braah.

  • @SamritpalSingh boom

  • @SamritpalSingh Who the hell on YouTube is learning grammar in the comments? This place is atrocious when it comes to three things and that is spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

  • @Xxaviers56

    :youmustbenewhere:

  • the comments on this page are nicer than the song, lolz !

  • that drummer's feet must be tired lol

  • @AxiomaticInfinity I really like your opinion man.

  • Ugh!

  • 40 people haven't been cleansed.

  • @gaffer060788 Keep your lame (well, not even your), joke to yourself and other pop videos, We don't need that here.

  • @temptstress666

the fuck are you going on about, cunt?

  • @gaffer060788 Yeah no need to respond, just stop copying the most poplar lame joke, keep it to pop videos not bm videos kk thanks.

  • @temptstress666

You have marilyn manson and eminem in your favorites. Please get off my bm videos and kill yourself, kkthxbai.

  • @temptstress666

You seem awful mad, maybe your vagina needs to be 'cleansed' of all that sand.

  • It takes someone who watches pop videos on youtube to know what people post on there. Just sayin.

  • @Vainvare Oooo very cleaver, what a powerful mind you have. I bet you think your really smart ;)

  • @temptstress666

why are you not in the kitchen?

  • @temptstrass ...ferme ta de yeule, ferme ta criss de yeule !!!

  • @temptstress666

It's spelled "you're" by the way.

  • Comment removed

  • @temptstress666

    *it's

    *Maybe

"Maby" if you learned English you wouldn't look like a total ass. Also, who let you out of the kitchen anyways?

  • Comment removed

  • @temptstress666

You're obviously a woman, get back in the kitchen where you belong. And lol @ your over-use of "fag" and "nerd", if you want to try to insult me try not to do it in a manner that makes you look like a butthurt 13 year old throwing a tiny-fisted tantrum in a store over not getting a bag of m&m's. Also, judging by your clever retorts of "fag", "nerd", "penis", "cum", you're clearly the homosexual here, and would get off to the thought of cumming in a mans mouth. Cry more.

  • Comment removed

  • @temptstress666

Learn the difference between "bye and "by" before you try to even reply to me. My god you're an idiot. I bet you dropped out of middle school to do lines of coke off your moms ass while your daddy bent you over and gave you an enema at the same time. Until you provide a picture of yourself, you're a woman judging by your youtube pic, quite a hideous one too. Also, whats a "faot?" Are you really that bad at English or is it hard to type with your daddys cum between your fingers?

  • @temptstress666 Seriously, pal, get that dick out of your ass. Well, in this case it might be your hands, but you get my point. I honsetly think you might need to retake middle school grammar, because the only part of this conversation I can understand is Vainvare's half.

  • @zealot027 I grow tired of your unintelligent remarks, your comments are what everyone has said before you 10, 000 times. "Yeah pal, you like dick, your dumb." There is clearly no point to speak to you anymore, since you are a stupid fuck. Good day sir.

  • @temptstress666 aha kill yourself

  • Comment removed

  • @Myrlidar ... cannot tell if troll or just really stupid

  • @Myrlidar That's the best part of the song, silly goose.

  • @Myrlidar You're really stupid , you didn't understand anything to the beauty of the song . Fuck Off !

  • The first time I heard this, I didn't like it at all. It was just noise to me. Now, a few months later, listening again, it's beautiful. Just goes to show you should never be prejudiced against an art form, because your future self will find beauty in unpredictable places.

  • This Will Destroy You sent me here.

  • Believe me, I've looked it up. I do academic research on the political economy and aesthetics of black metal. And unless you're willing to qualify your distinction with an intensely-realized consideration of the development of bourgeois radicalism in the 20th and early 21st centuries, I'd ask you to forgo reference to the archetypes of black metal politics in your response.

  • BOO

  • I wish someone would upload this in more pixels br0.

  • And this music draws the most unbelievably intelligent fans. I can tell by the responses I got to my comment. Some of the most eloquent 1st grade blather I've ever heard.

  • I can't tell any single one of these 'Phlegm Rock' bands from the next. Chalk this one up with them.

  • @OutwardObserver2099 The music you listen to sucks.

  • new school sucks. Rock on Priest!

  • Godspeed You! Black Metal!

  • @CervixalCubby the fuck? Do you even know what hipsters are? I doubt Black Metal could attract such cretins

  • @CervixalCubby HOLY SHIT SO INDIE OMG HOLY I CAN'T EVEN WHAT IS THIS I'M SO INDIE WHAT THE FUCK.

  • I find it ironically amazing the black metal has since evolved from a means of spreading ugliness, hatred, and evil into one of the most beautiful and uplifting forms of art music existing today. Hails

  • @unblackcellofreak777 Yeah old school sucks. The new school is epic.

  • I know it's almost a tautology, something as abvious as that someday we will be through to the final of our lives, but... It is impossible to do not love the intro and all the song! Wolves in the throne room is so purifying...

  • This band along with Dissection basically got me into black metal, got alot to thank them for it's now one of my favourite genres :D

  • this is not black metal.. its post black metal

  • My favorite band... that is all

  • @FieldHag pretentious bullshit comment

  • well this band will never be in my top list but this song will always remain in my heart

  • I hate this band with a passion, but this song is pretty good.

  • @viletree try not to be such an elitist thats not what bm is about

  • @BlackMetalWorld I'm not being an elitist, I don't really care too much for this band. However, this is a standout song.

  • @viletree who cares ?

  • 35 people have not been cleansed...

  • @SingsLikeACree1 oh no! :O

  • in description: universally?? on mars they listen to music from earth?o_O prolly u meant globally xD

  • @ejokurirulezz Ignorant.

  • @ejokurirulezz faggot

  • As a first time listener, I was left in awe. It's the first time I've wanted to listen to a 10 minute song all the way through in years.

  • Don't get it. Will come back later...

  • @heero7yui Thats cool you are willing to give it another try. im glad you arent one of those who listen and just instantly trash it if you dont like it or dont get it. that shows an extreme amount of maturity and open mindedness. way to to go brother.

  • @LifeUnderTheSwatter I get it now. Thank you!

  • 4:00 minutes of intros, fuck bm

  • @Snip714 Then skip it maybe?

  • @Snip714 you're the biggest retard, I've ever seen, you ignorant fuck.

  • This intro reminds me of sigur ros

  • @FrostHammerBand I'd say old M83 + Sigur Ros combined...great stuff though

  • This song is pure beauty! It made me cry.
