@Thedjemyzz The clippers are generally used to get all your parts of the sheet of parts that you get when you buy a box of units. Washes are used in the same way as paints, except you don't need to water them down due to them being washes. Different washes will get different effects. An HQ is the leader of your army. Without an HQ, you can't play, you need a legal army to play which consists of 2 troop squads and an HQ.
I did lots of research on all the races and factions but I havn't found any that make me more excited than the ultramarines. I love the background story and the design for the miniatures but will I get flak for using ultramarines because they're so "typical" or "basic"? like "oh he's just using a starter set". i also don't want to be accused of using an "overpowered" race, but they seem pretty balanced to me. can anyone help me confirm my liking for the UMs?
@kefka3 Oh I'm a also thinking of starting on the start of my college years and even i think that the ultramarines are awe inspiring but if someone is flaking you just because your starting with the ultramarines or saying that there overpowered is just being mean. So don't play with them, a true warhammer player who just wants to play the game the way it was meant to be played should welcome you as a beginner no matter which race you play.It is all about strategy.

Say you're getting your army ready for an upcoming tournament, and you need some time in against good players with a variety of armies. What better relaxing, soporific tunes than this? @soccerxman96 That's what I though at first, but I myself found a surprising amount of gaming stores in nearby districts just by using google earth. Just type in "games workshop" in the search box and voila! It shows a bunch of miniature wargaming stores on the map. You should try it!

@FenderStratster not really,blood angels don't got an arrow on their shoulder,but i don't think people will actually trouble you with that,alternatively you could cut the arrows off with an exacto blade but this will look rough

Funny enough you can buy equivalent paint colors for spray paint for almost any army color so literally anyone could do a coat a of gray, white, or black for the base and hen do their final main coat. Then of course do the details.

I don't think you should buy the big one if you're short on budget... so if you just start out and you don't want to spend crazy amounts of money then I would just go with the mini rulebook. I would recommend you to wait with it until next edition comes out.

I wan't to start playing Warhammer 40k, but I can't cause it cost so freaking much and in my country economy- almost impossible. There are no gaming stores in a 100 mile radius and even if i chip in with my friend for the Starter set, but than still we could only play against each other, cause nobody else plays it around me... Any advice?
@kabroniux Make sure to check for any independat stores and check for local hobbyist groups, If none are found then maybe Your current position is not one optimal for wargaming but if you do not mind matches with just your friend, The go ahead, And if you save up to get different armies, Games can vary all the time :D,
@mw2fan465 find people that you dont normaly talk too and ask them if they play it and if your friends think less of you for playing 40k or with those people then your friends are dicks and you shouldn't hang out with them also... forums have a lot of people like you and they may be a different age group... dont be afraid to play with younger kids.
i paint all my minis to be sure, but id prefer to have an apponent with a completly un painted army than have him or her use and army with paint just smeared on making them look like globs of painted mess on the table.....
Ahhhhhh! I guess I know what you mean about getting more Troops Choices and with talking about having your enermies to chew through... I think of it as a 3 course meal,
Troops are like Starters (Soup, Salad, Prawn Cocktail) Elites and Heavy Support are like Main Course... then you have to pay the bill and get a mint in the end (HQ)
@Shaderaygun dont get a tyranid battle force, they are rubbosh imo. get warriors, carnifex, possibly a trygon, genestealers, hormagaunts and termagaunts. good army :P
@Shaderaygun get a broodlord and 4 boxes of ´gaunts. then you could get some gargoyles and a carnifex. and last but not least a trigon. if youre still not happy, then you can get more gaunts.....

High five for the green tide! My fav set up. 120 Boys (each with nob w/boss pole/pclaw/heavy armor). Throw in a big mek with the force field and big daddy thraka and shit gets real! Oh, and 30 grots as meat shields. Forgot step 0...or 11, have plenty disposable income lol.
Good video, as always - loads of fun. But no-obody, NO-BODY touches my dice. I don't share dice and I don't use other peoples dice. As for fielding greys, I totally agree; its why I have yet to actually play a game of 40k. Too many unpainted mini's.
I'm starting out with the Tau Empire, buying the battleforce and a Hammerhead Gunship as I have chosen to fight for the greater good and the codex has amazing rules for the Tau.
I seriously wonder how to find enough time for Warhammer without having to leave my job. Any ideas? The unpainted miniatures keep collecting dust. Not mentioning that friends who play(ed?) it usually are as busy as I am. Adult life destroys this hobby :/ Be warned.

@junkerdunk well it is very rare but even then they're often "not in the mood" and just prefer to drink a beer and watch a movie or something. The RPG sessions died the same way. At least we still have a round of Space Hulk when the time allows...Missing the old times :/

@goth84 get a fireteam and a kroot squad your kroot will stop the enemy from meleeing the fireteam while the fireteam provides deadly fire support and also a devilfish transport (this is how to start it from the standpoint of this video or at least how i would start it)

Ive only ever played Dawn of War but Ive always wanted to start playing 40k. Ive found myself drooling over painted models in the GW window. Really should give it a try one day.
@techmarine96 first you should look at which do you like best. then go to the gamesworkshop site and look at the models and prices remember amazon has lower prices for almost every thing. i think your better of with spacemarines or one of those small armies, horde armies usauly consist of hundreds of models. hope this helps

I observed the game for about a year, then I visited a few stores including yours but you weren't there so i was alittle sad. I wanted to see some net celebs.. ANYWAY about a year later i decided to play. Got Assult on Black reach found out how unbalanced it was and getting my first Eldar Battle force this weekend!
The only thing i didn't like is the Colour nazi's who get bent out of shape for painting stuff the colours that i want instead of what GW says.
@SomedaysDreamersBC Just paint them what ever you want. If you want pink and purple polkadot Striking Scorpions it's up to you. As long as It's clear what is what then there are no rules.
@Weak3stLink you build your army relevent to the force org. chart; that is, the biggest force will have 2 hq, 3 elite, 6 troops, 3 heavy and 3 fast attack. however, the bare minimum asks for an hq and 2 troop units

If you just want to paint, you can pretty much buy and paint whatever army you'd like..

For Christmas, I am planning on beginning WH40k. I was thinking of getting the "Assault on Black Reach", but this video made me realize that I probably won't use the Space Marines or the Orks. I was thinking of using the Blood Angels, which would render the reason for getting the AoBR set moot. Anyway, onto my question, I don't want to bore you with fluff. Are the sets that aren't the AoBR set connectible? Would I need glue?
@icetailgreg They are connectible in theory, but you should a bottle of glue just in case the parts don't fit well together. Also you can paint your AOBR marines in a blood angels paint scheme(as blood angels use space marine models) so theres not reason for you not to get it.

Good video, as always - loads of fun. But no-obody, NO-BODY touches my dice. I don't share dice and I don't use other peoples dice. As for fielding greys, I totally agree; its why I have yet to actually play a game of 40k. Too many unpainted mini's.

I seriously wonder how to find enough time for Warhammer without having to leave my job. Any ideas? The unpainted miniatures keep collecting dust. Not mentioning that friends who play(ed?) it usually are as busy as I am. Adult life destroys this hobby :/ Be warned.

@junkerdunk well it is very rare but even then they're often "not in the mood" and just prefer to drink a beer and watch a movie or something. The RPG sessions died the same way. At least we still have a round of Space Hulk when the time allows...Missing the old times :/

I remember the first miniature I ever bought was Commander Dante back when I was like 10 years old.. was not smart/patient enough to figure out how to play the game though I did collect and paint (not well) them! I ended up trading my army away for a bunch of PS1 games for some reason.. which got stolen from me later on. What does that teach me?

@goth84 get a fireteam and a kroot squad your kroot will stop the enemy from meleeing the fireteam while the fireteam provides deadly fire support and also a devilfish transport (this is how to start it from the standpoint of this video or at least how i would start it)

@techmarine96 first you should look at which do you like best. then go to the gamesworkshop site and look at the models and prices remember amazon has lower prices for almost every thing. i think your better of with spacemarines or one of those small armies, horde armies usauly consist of hundreds of models. hope this helps

I observed the game for about a year, then I visited a few stores including yours but you weren't there so i was alittle sad. I wanted to see some net celebs.. ANYWAY about a year later i decided to play. Got Assult on Black reach found out how unbalanced it was and getting my first Eldar Battle force this weekend!
The only thing i didn't like is the Colour nazi's who get bent out of shape for painting stuff the colours that i want instead of what GW says.

@Weak3stLink you build your army relevent to the force org. chart; that is, the biggest force will have 2 hq, 3 elite, 6 troops, 3 heavy and 3 fast attack. however, the bare minimum asks for an hq and 2 troop units

For Christmas, I am planning on beginning WH40k. I was thinking of getting the "Assault on Black Reach", but this video made me realize that I probably won't use the Space Marines or the Orks. I was thinking of using the Blood Angels, which would render the reason for getting the AoBR set moot. Anyway, onto my question, I don't want to bore you with fluff. Are the sets that aren't the AoBR set connectible? Would I need glue?

@icetailgreg They are connectible in theory, but you should a bottle of glue just in case the parts don't fit well together. Also you can paint your AOBR marines in a blood angels paint scheme(as blood angels use space marine models) so theres not reason for you not to get it.
