@eaterofclams The 380 is not an airplane every company can afford, or every company can use efficiently, unlike the 320, or more or less the 350. With the current situation in aviation industrie, not a lot of companies which need the 380, can make an order which can make an actual difference on the orders list. Sooner or later 380's will start replacing the 744's. It takes more time than 4 years for a company to break even, or even more - to make profit out of a 10 billion dollar investment.

@TheJoshanjoy This is an old video but as it stands now in Oct 2011 the plane is proving to be a failure, with only 236 aircraft sold and orders not coming in due to newer more efficient planes from both Boeing and Airbus. They need to sell over 1,000 A380's to break even on their investment. The A350 which won't be delivered until 2016 has already more than doubled the sales of the A380. It is just too inefficient to compete

@cuzildaozild2 Computers, which are controlled by people. And all take-off's and most of the landings are done manually, just like any other airplane. The computers which control the 380 don't differ in any significant way from the computers on the 320/330/340, and all they do is prevent pilot error, aside from the usual autopilot functions.

Not every crash is "crash and burn". If something goes out of control in the air and your only chance is to leave the plane (you see they are also wearing parachutes, right?), you don't want to hit your head while heading to the door.

Well, first of all, the Neo a320 and 747-8I and both perfectly fine options for many airlines. However, when you try to use the 747 yet again to complete with a brand new airplane, my opinion is that it is not a completely new airplane. I'm glad Airbus took the risk, if all of us were the safe type like Boeing, aviation technology would go nowhere. Trent 900 on the a380 and the the oil leaking Trent 1000 (which is also for the 787) are both made by, clearly a BRITISH company...

I hope the amazing a380 doesn't get put out of service like the Concorde was. That then and this now, are both great efficient ways of travelling in the future. After all, it is more efficient per passenger than a Prius! Boeing, as much as I love them, is stuck in the past, constantly reinventing an old idea. Sure they can slap new engines on it and make it longer, but its still the same old 747.
