I'm baffled as to the chair at 0.25!!! Is that there for security, should His Holiness or the President de la Republique visit??? Or is it special pre-paid seat for Recit fanatics during Mass or the Auditions?

There is nothing painted on the pipe. The dark area is a slot in the wooden face of the pipe that imparts a particular timbre and also serves as a location for the not visible tuning slide below.
