@shadow41279 - I think the movie is more an adaptation about Mary Reilly than a full depiction Jekyll and Hyde. But, to truly understand the story, you should read "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson. It's a short read, but will explain everything in much better detail. If you were interested in this movie, then I think you'll enjoy reading the book.

Inconsistent accent was a bit of a bummer. I don't think Julia Roberts' performance was as terrible as some of the reviewers are screaming though. If anything, the J/H performance seemed to lack a little bit, but it still wasn't BAD. If anything, the mild disappoints may well come from the deviations from the original story.

I am at a loss... While I agree that Julia Roberts' accent was a fail... I don't understand how Malkovich is supposed to be the "savior" of this movie. Am I the only person on the planet who thinks Malkovich has the acting talent of a vegetable? I've seen a LOT of his movies. I've tried to get it. And I just don't. That was the blandest, most dispassionate Jekyll/Hyde portrayal I have EVER seen.
