@postalfnj No I wasn't thinking of that.. And Yes The Bridge Is In Wimauma off of 301. But there is a no trespassing sign to get to it. You need to know the owner like I do or go with me...
Did you know SCL usually routed the "Juice Train" via the Parrish Sub???
It was a more direct route at the time and it allowed them to bypass Tampa completely. The Parrish Sub at that time was still good for 45-50 MPH running. The line, although a very long "branch" for the Seaboard, it was well maintained for such speed despite it's lighter Rail. I have a Picture in a magazine of the Depot and track looking north at Wimauma taken from the back of a Train in 1973. Not much there today!!!
I would be happy to send the Picture to you. Email is probably the quickest way. I wasn't sure if you were familiar with the history and the circumstances which led to it's abandonment. The line through Ruskin had more traffic. The Parrish Sub just ran through wilderness and some farming areas. Not much business to warrent it's continued use. The same thing happened to my favorite S Line south of Savannah in 1985 and it was high speed and signalled!!!! There is a similar bridge at Everett, Ga.
CSX runs their Trains on the former ACL route through Ruskin to the west now. This is a great Video. Look forward to seeing more of this. Would you like a copy of the Bridge from the 1930s????
I have a picture of this very Bridge from the 1930s!!!! It looked Brand New then.
Of course, it's gonna show it's age after 32 years of non-use. This was the former
Parrish Subdivision. It was part of the Seaboard Air Line route from Durant to Sarasota and Venice. In 1967 the Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line merged. The Parrish Sub was retired north of Willow to Durant in 1979. I am not sure how long trains ran over the bridge but the line was taken up north of that area in 1980.
Alan fantastic video. I live in Sarasota and was born and raised in Manatee County. Could you please email me directions if you would be so kind so I could drive as close as possible to get video and photos of this bridge . I really don't want to canoe here if I don't have to. Maybe we could talk on the phone about the bridge also. I would really appreciate it. Perhaps we could meet here sometime to shoot more video. Thank you very much. I would appreciate your help.
Neat bridge but, even though it's abandon it's really dangerous to walk across a bridge like this. On our railroad we have a 900 foot long bridge. No one including volunteers are allowed to cross it without proper safety training. I know this bridge is not in use but, walk on bridges can be deadly without proper safety training, other than that looks like a very classic bridge
@metraF40PH163 Yes your right! It was only one tme and we where very careful. There where no tresspassing signes around and we us wanted to explore it. So many people have been there for there are tons of names spray painted on the bridge. Thanks..
I watched this earlier and had to go away. Now I'm commenting, lol.
That train trestle is so old and unique. I think the kids all got a great education , in this outdoor classroom ! Natural Florida :) It was scarey watching the kids climb across the rickety old track and glad all made it safely!
@sunnylane711 Thank you!! Yes the kids clmb monkey bars like crazy and they sceamed because they wanted to go over with us. They where careful and I was the first one over just incase I didn't think it was safe or sturdy. Now we are making a horror movie and part of ths film is in it.
@dcarpine28 You should see the trouble we had getting to and from this bridge!!! the video will be up soon!! It will be called the Blair Witch Project A Disturbance In he Woods. Very funny!!

@LCRV1 Yes Durant is only a few miles from my house. It connected to the old bone valley line which runs from Mulberry to Valrico then Tampa
