Obama went to a great college and all, and he is articulate but...maaaan, oh man does he hesitate a LOT when he's talking. He's always looking to be careful of what he says, always thinking 5 times about what to say, how it'll come out. He looks like a smart guy...who's really stressed !!
Mccain just gives you what he thinks - he might alter what he's saying for his image but he just gives you common sense straight away.
Does that stand to reason that John McCain is also "looking to be careful of what he says" for the sake of altering his so called "image"? You just said in two different ways that actually both of these men do the same thing....
rofl this is my favourite thing about Obama's speech. Self-moderation = flawless and enjoyable sentences. You want to check how slowly winston churchill talked lol.
I guess I'm what you would call a Joe Six-Pack, and if you'll notice I can read, write, and even spell. I agree that our president should be smart and well-spoken, but there always seems to be this implied criticism of those who do not have Ivy League educations. Despite the fact that I consider democracy to be a great system, human nature always pushes towards the lord in his castle and his loyal serfs. I work as hard as anyone else, harder than some, and I deserve to be well-off and content.
On the contrary, I've noticed that there is immediate skepticism of anyone who has a college education. If you have a PhD, then you're just screwed. You're automatically an arrogant elitist scumbag in the eyes of some Americans.
I am sorry that you took this personally, although I can understand why you would. I was only responding to the sterotypical definitions of both "elitism" and "Joe Six-pack"-one being "above it all" and not connected or willing to be connected to those who are in more difficult circumstances.
And "Joe-Six Pack" is often described as those with little broadness of vision, narrow-minded, uneducated.
McCain graduating lowest in his naval academy yet because of his family connections got a sweet position in the naval military

I was not speaking literally about a particular person. I was speaking figuratively about the labels.

Man, Obama is great. I hope he does well.

I want my president to be articulate and very smart.
Obama made a good point when he said that it is hypocritical to have to defend himself for the very thing that we embrace as the "American Dream".
There are a lot of other qualities that make a good President and a person who tries to respond to the needs of
others, but this kind of criticism is trivial to be sure.
Personally, I don't want "Joe Six-Pack" as the head of our country, even if he is a great guy (or woman).

I don't believe either, and was trying to say that it was unfair to condemn Obama for his education or ambition.

Great guy? He was/is a liar and a tax evader.
