I grew up playing Sierra games as I'm sure most who played KQ5 did. So by that time the logic of this game seemed far too natural. It was then other adventure games that would throw you with their completely logical ...logic.
The biggest gripe I had with this game were the "mazes". Even the Catacombs in KQ6 were atleast well designed and you could figure where to go quite quickly, but the desert and the ocean here were painful. the desert honestly probably took half of the game for me
Paw, where'd you find the versions of the music you played for this videos? Was there a remake of KQV that improved on the music compared to how it sounded in your LP?
Strangely enough I didn't have as much trouble with the snake since those animals generally don't react well to loud, repeated noises. Basically since snakes only have an inner ear they hear sound in a much less direct way. They're really just hearing everything as bass.
Then again, the odds of the average person knowing that offhand is pretty slim.
I played this game when I was still a kid so I wasn't annoyed by Cedric's voice. I do remember being so scared inside Mordac's castle. Especially the eye that follows you around. And I remember being soooo frustrated trying to get that wand machine to work. I think I was stuck on that puzzle for two or three days. So frustrating! Who would think the cheese would do it??
When I played King's Quest V I really enjoyed it and didn't mind Cedric at all. However, it was a non-voice version. It wasn't until years later when I saw clips of the voice version of the game that I realized why people hated his character so much. Honestly, I don't know what the Sierra people were thinking. I'd guess hiring professional actors wasn't in the budget, but still, you'd think someone would sense that that Mr. Bill voice was unacceptable.
Imagine if Cedric found himself along with Alexander on the Land of the Green Isles...
"Hoo, watch out, Gra- I mean, Alexander, a POISONOUS guard dog!"
"Hey! What's that ya say? So I'm poisonous, am I?"
And then Alexander dies somehow.
"Hoo, now I'm stuck on this foreign island to fend for myself?"
The genie's hand appears offscreen and tosses the hole-in-the-wall onto Cedric. He lands on top of Alexander, who doesn't have a ticket into the Underworld yet.
Okay I'll have to check but, did you say you would look at the Fan Game called the "Silver Lining" during the King's Quest retrospect. Granted it's not offical but, damn well should be for how awsome the game is. By the way anyone who doesn't know what the Silver Lining is should go look it up!
@beatchef Yeah, I missed the meat and wound up eating the pie when I got hungry while mountain climbing. Hence, no pie for the Yeti, so the game was rendered unwinnable. I had to start over. It was almost as bad as the time the alien popped out of my chest at the end of space quest 2 and I had no saves from before the alien kissed me. I had to start the game over then too. Sierra was evil with their dead ends puzzles.

What about the meat in the cupboard you can easily miss? That's worse than the pie in my opinion!
