Los Angeles Superior Court Judges are excpting bribes. California judges are employee's of the State not the County. The County is currently giving them $57,688.00 per yr per judge in addition to the pay and benefits they receive from the State. After being exposed for the bribes (Sturgeon v Los Angeles County) the judges paid a lobbyist to pass SBX211 granting the retro active imunity from prosecution. SBX211 does not address the loss of due proccess.
you guys are fucking idiots!!! why the hell do you care if a guy and a guy or a women or another women get married!! let them live there own lives and live yours; dont judge others.
I still don't understand what the problem is. Traditional marriage isn't in danger at all. Gay people can marry and are happy, straight people still can marry and be happy as well. Just because gay people can marry there won't be more gays - if that is what the conservatives are afraid of.
So, the gay people gain something very important, and the others don't lose anything. Everybody could be happy.
I sure hope that the four judges pictured in this post have seen this. Nothing will make them throw Prop 8 as an unconstitutional revision quicker than if they see how the Yes on Prop 8 people portrayed them as "liberal" judges that ignored the "will" of the intolerant majority. In fact six out of seven were Republican appointees. I think you Yes people made a BIG mistake, and I bet the judges get even with you and throw out your little piece of hate known as Prop 8...
The judges never "took away" anyone's vote. They merely pointed out that voting on the meaning of marriage is unconstitutional because marriage is handled by religion. Voting on it's meaning is a violation of separation of church and state. Vote no on 8, but remember your rights. If there is ever a time where a judge or jury tries to force a church to perform a gay marriage ceremony, remind them of this separation. The church defines marriage, NOT the state. And not all churches have to agree.
It is very much within the state's interest to support institutions that benefit society as a whole. Traditional marriage between one man and one woman provides the best means of strengthening the family unit.
Heterosexual marriage is recognized by states and religions all around the world, past and present. In other words, church and state are consistently IN AGREEMENT on this issue.
I believe in Children's rights over Adult Preference. Kids come first. Which parent would you deprive a kid of? Mother or Father? It shouldn't even be a question. Kids are entitled to both a father and a mother. I was so glad to hear even our politicians agree on that. Even France rejected same sex marriage because they recognized a child's human rights. They're not just trophies, they're people. Let's come together and vote for the kids.
This really has nothing to do with kids at all. MANY gay couples have them, even without the rights attributed to marraige, and they still will without them. The only real effect this has is taking away protections of those children. If you claim they are hurt already, how does hurting them more help?
Can we clarify that THREE of those judges were appointed by a REPUBLICAN governor and confirmed by the state of California voters. Its their duty to uphold and ensure our constitution "maintain[s] uniformity [under] the law".
No one is forcing anything down people's throats. The judges are doing the jobs they were appointed to do-uphold our constitution!
Please donate so we can defeat this measure. These people will stop at nothing to promote lies, hate, and bigotry, along with denying basic rights against fellow gay Californians. Our State Constitution that guarantees equality under the law for all citizens means nothing to them. America is all about Freedom, Equality, and Liberty. These people are using religion and children to promote discrimination, bias and enact anti-American laws.
and thank god they did. we are a secular constitutional republic. a country which neither SUPPORTS OR OPPOSES religion. the only reason against gay marriage, is religious.our founding fathers built into the constitution the BILL OF RIGHTS! that was to protect minorities from the tyranny of majorities!
About judges overturning Prop 22: Our democracy has representative and judicial oversight. When a majority passes an initiative, judicial oversight is necessary to ensure that proposed laws do not conflict with the constitutionality of existing law and by extension to ensure that the mob mentality does not oppress the minority voice (e.g., gays). Those 4 CA judges were observing legal precedent. To write exclusionary policies into the State Constitution is discrimination at its worst. Vote No.
As a nation, we began by declaring that All men are created equal. We now practically read it, All men are created equal, except Homosexuals. Soon, it will read All men are created equal, except Homosexuals, and Foreigners and Athiests. When it comes to this, I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty. To Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.
"We began by declaring that all men are created equal. We now practically read it, all men are created equal except negroes. When the Know-nothings get control, it will read, all men are created equal except negroes and foreigners and Catholics. When it comes to this, I shall prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, without the base alloy of hypocrisy."
That's nice. Except for the fact that gay marriage has absolutely nothing to do with the civil rights movement. In fact, it has nothing to do with rights at all, only the LABEL of "Marriage". And frankly, it is a disgusting injustice to all those who faced centuries of REAL oppression and REAL persecution fighting for their basic human rights to live free. Including Abraham Lincoln, they would be more pleased with you if you were to merely spit upon their graves.
You are adorable, and I love how you changed your argument. First it was "You have the freedom to leave if you don't like it." I showed you that it was an adaptation of a lincoln quote, so now your argument is about civil rights.
Go on, hate gay people. I know that it must totally scare you that two dudes want to get married.
F.D. : I signed the papers to help get prop 8 on the ballots because I believe in democracy and did not like that the people had no voice.
Your Lincoln quote was the adorable part, because you want to compare gay marriage to civil rights, when they have nothing at all to do with each other. Just because I didn't explicitly reiterate my previous statement doesn't mean it changed it. I still don't mind or care if you move to another country. Is that what you were looking to hear? Does it make you feel better? I also do not care what papers some random YouTuber claims to have signed to promote Democracy. But I did lol.
My passion for this stems not from homosexual relations, which you may have noticed, are wideranging and accepted throughout CA, regardless of how all this legislation turns out. Personally, I don't care what homosexuals do. I do, however, care what some activist judges do, and overturning the explicit will of the people of California, who voted by a 22% margin against allowing gay marriage just a few years ago (on which I did not vote), doesn't sit well with me at all.
That is exactly why I included my Full Disclosure in my last post. When they legalized gay marriage I was glad that it was legalized, but upset at how they did it. That is why I signed the petition to help prop 8 get on the ballot, because the people should have the final word. However, the last vote was in 2000, and times were different then.
I just think we won't agree on this point, because I don't see how voting yes will help anything. You can have the last word, I'm going to go play WoW.
I do believe eventually it will be put into law here, but that process should come naturally, or it will inevitably face INCREASED and PROLONGED social resistance. Forcing it down the people's throat is not the way to go about it.
The 3 branches of government were established to protect the will of the people, not completely ignore millions of voters who already let their voice be heard.
Remind these 4 judges who they are supposed to we representing--WE, the PEOPLE--not their own opinion.
Those four California judges are clearly a case of an out-of-control arrogant judiciary legislating from the bench. The definition of marriage should not be left up to four lawyers. We do not live in a dictatorship. We live in America.
would you be calling the judges arrogant if the decision went the other way?! why not just be honest, and simply say that you HATE liberal minded justices in favor of conservative minded ones.
3 branches of gov. est. by our founding fathers with their wisdom to know in advance the oft madness of the majority. Vote no on 8. And note, Connecticut has joined Mass, and California in seeing the good and the light.
