  • What was the flying range of the replica? Top speed, etc.?

What engines were they running, and who & where built?

Sounds really throaty flying overhead runby. Nice vid.

  • @sgtredbluered Best thing to do is to go to the Brooklands Museum and read about it there. It had three different sets of Engines during its operational life and they all of course, had different characteristics and effect on performance and range. If you are not in the UK, then you will find quite a bit on the web about its exploits.

  • I think it's great to see an old aircraft like this built and flown, takes you back to the good old day's of aviation, we need our history preserved like this, thanks to the people who care.and I think theyve done a great job at restoring some of the brooklands circuit, and giving us the museum.I was a member of the brooklands society in the seventies, till I moved to canada.I hope that the musuem is here to stay.Keep up the good work. Chris Marr

  • pity it will never fly again...the only other Vimi i have ever seen was on display in the old aircraft section of the science museum in London, where is it now i wonder?

  • The aircraft is still in flying condition and I have little doubt if funds could be raised, one day it could take to the air again. Just consider some of the 2nd WW wrecks that are now flying again. As to where it is now just go to my page and look for the Video I made of it being transported to Brooklands Museum, where it is now on display.

  • @andysvideo thank you for both putting up this video and the info old son, sadly i now live here in Canada and cant get to Brooklands any more(lack of funds) but it was lovely to see this one fly! once again many thanks mate!

  • Overhere in the Netherlands health and safety regulations and insurance policies would NEVER allow this plane to fly for even a yard.

We builded a magnificant original replica of a XVIIth century ship ("Batavia"), which was not allowed to sail.

In fact the burocrats ordered the rudder to be removed and the riggings made unfit, otherwise the ship would be confiscated.

Count yourself lucky across the North Sea.

  • @helmuthoorn and it was a damn shame old son,i saw the lad who worked on making that ship and it was brilliant to say the least! i am appaled that the sods in charge did that to the ship and him!

  • i was there watching whn thi happened! i have a holiday home right beside this place.

  • Any one wanting to know the facts from the people who have been talking to the CAA, Aircraft builders, Crew and all those at the sharp end, could go to brooklandsmuseum com and look at the Vimy news page.

  • There are no "great or good" at Brooklands. This aircraft could fly for many more years, the crew are happy to, the CAA are willing to help and there are engineers happy to do any work but no, the museum directors would rather it deteriorated in their dilapidated, leaky hanger along with their other moth eaten exhibits rather than fly to be enjoyed by thousands. The decision to ground it rests entirely with them, Shame on them

  • With the greatest respect, you are ill-informed and mistaken if you think that.

The people featured in the video are the Great and the Good of Brooklands, because they are the people that give up their time to go there and make it a special place. They make it happen against all the odds If you were to spend just a few hours working with these special people you would know that.

  • Thanks for your kind words. You will find more Vimy and other aviation items on my page, under the Brooklands Section

  • GREAT FOOTAGE! I love the shots you got. Also very well edited.

  • Yet another GEM.

Thanks for doing these videos Andy
