Today - two and a half years later - we can only laugh at the specs. In the today`s Mac Pro dual Intel Westmere processors with 2.93GHz and 12 cores aren`t really a problem. But let`s see, what the future holds for us. Processor speeds are increasing very fast.

You can look at it this way: Mac Pro's are basically futureproof. They are so easy to upgrade due to the case design, and yes, pretty expensive but still; the bottom line is that if you ever need to upgrade, you can surely do it in 5-10 years.

Well, actually, looking at its performance and price compared fx. Alienware Aurora or Area 51, the mac pro is a disgrace...I thought its wasnt true myself at firs, but after looking it up, for the same price you can get more than double the power and performence for the price from Alienware...

Bah! I don't care how fast emulation is even with hardware assisted emulation using virtual machine assisting cpu instructions, native is always faster. Full native Microsoft operating system support would have made me a Mac aficionado anytime, but they continuously force this bootcamp crap and claim that you shouldn't worry because they CPUs support VMX assisted visualization, yeah. Throw me any opcode currently in spec, VMXON is a caveat of performance and incompatibility to true PC users.

The Mac Pro came out using the Intel Xeon. It NEVER used Intel Core Duo processors. And the original versions support 32GB of RAM as well, it's just that when it came out, 4GB chips didn't exist.

I've opened one of these things. 2 Quad cores (full 64 BIT, 3.2 GHz), 32GB of RAM (maxium aload), space for 4 9800GX2's. It's a monster. Plus the OS is fully 64 bit too.

I know 32GB's is pointless for the genral market. But for the very high end market, where they could be editing hugh TIFF files for bill boards, editing very high quality video (HD) for the latest block buster film or creating and designing high end graphics with very complex maths, it might be of use to them, which I feel the market for such a high specked machine would be aimed for. But for genral use, yes it is too much.

For genral use or gaming, you don't really need more than 2 to 3 GB's of RAM (maybe less for the Apples). But Vista, it's 2GB's to just make it run well, Apple hopefully needs less.

i am so glad that i went to a mac book.. my home computer is way to slow and even for the asking price for it... now im looking into getting another one. :P this time for games!! i dont want any other computer.. i also have a custom made computer which it gets slow too.. im kinda a noob when it comes to computers..

this is the thing, stop thinking home built computer's will destroy anything. congrads on builting yourself a hunk of shit. there are peices in a stock PC that you don't have in your 'home build' PC. the new pros have dual graphics cards, you have a terrible OS that cradles with viruses. enjoy ;]

Vista is not a bad OS. I use Vista64 and it works great. I have a MAC too, and I use for sound editing. Macs are great for media editing. I would not recommend one for gaming though.

I don't think that home built computers are better than a built up MAC. Just because some one can slot together a few parts, does not mean they are any good with it. Plus only parts are covered in a home built machine, no the machine it self. If you buy a full built machine, that has been built for you, then expect good quality products, if you get a home built machine, then the quality maybe alot less.

I love my 3.2GHZ 8-Core Mac Pro and won't trade it for the world but I can't wait for the LED-Backlit cinema Displays to come out been saving up for a 30-inch Cinema Display for a while now I guess we will see at MacWorld 2009

girlsdrinkfeck the Samsung you referring to is it the 305T? I saw that display it person I only wish it came in silver, I was also looking at 3008WFP because it's aluminum but I read some bad reviews on it but I kinda link the new LED-Cinema display alot i'm undecided, i'm also looking Rizo, Gateway, HP, BenQ,viewsonic but i'm going to wait to see what Apple is going to do with the new LED- first before I buy one but thanks for the advance Feck
