A great improvement seems to have been made with the animation puppetry since Anderson's 1957's Twizzle. The sparks from the rocket seemed in slow motion to me so I suspect the film was slowed down to make the puppets appear smoother, less jerky and more realistic than they were in Twizzle. I'm from Germany, and here, there is a group of Pupeteers Called "Augburger Puppenkiste" that made much Series that looked like this. But they made it like this even in the 90's. But Gerry and Sylvia evolved it and then some years later the Puppets had not seeable strings and moving mouth. The Technology behind it is amazing.

But, oh dear....that mad ol' Torchy was too bizarre for me at age 8. Those crazed eyes, that Von Trapp jacket. However, that there 'Twinkly Star' is something we genuinely all need today, especially as we grow older .... and loose things.

The immaculate 'Torchy' set and its introductory puppets from the first show, posessed brilliant characterisation and exquisite set-lighting. Pom-Pom the dog was a triumph - a poodle with straight hair?!? That HAD to have come from a bad-hair-day-trichology-diary of the originator/narrator (mixed with more than a little of mother's ruin)....
