@lucyangharad Don't get discouraged! The Chops required to "Bow" correctly are horrendously hard. Kepp on pluggin away..It not easy in the least sense of everything "luck
Just so you know, although I am NOT the person who said 'very korean' in one of Kyung Wha Chung's videos, I'm korean. The conductor kind of reminds me of a muppet. I wonder if I'll EVER become like her...I mean like famous.
Perhaps it's my 100th return to this video over years. I am no kidding. And I never get tired of watching her playing, not just Bruch, but every others. It's so nice of her that no matter how knotty the piece is (e.g. Bartok), she let me really understand the piece (it comes very much natural yet so passionate yet...poetic!). She proves that the music is not just a mere arrangement of notes, rather it is tool to develop one's emotion.
@gurtrudelim i dont think that u have the required sense for music because if u do u would have understand that that what she plays here is just a musical masturbation..i'm sorry but this performance is so immature and overconfident with no argument to stand for that confidence.. :\ i'll just put it this way..it sucks :)
@MsMarino19 I understand that one can not love every single interpretations by many performers. For example, I personally didn’t prefer Sarah Chang’s Bruch although many people liked so much. But hey! As much as I repeatedly listen to Sarah’s performance, I started to see something unique and something that I never noticed before. It is a matter of preference. Without it, there is no evolution in the music world. If you think Chung's intepretation sucks, I can't argue, since it's your thought.
@MsMarino19 Who says that music has to be "mature"? If you don't like it then don't listen to it, but your oppinion isn't everything. With so many different types of music now, there is obviously a broad range of what people like. With 650 likes and 31 dislikes on this video, I am pretty sure it doesn't suck. And she's the pro, she knows what she's doing.
@MsMarino19 I feel sorry that you can't just enjoy the music around you. and btw, she doesn't play in the first bar. You're just as young and inexperienced as I am. Do you think you could do better?
@MsMarino19 Balooney. You teacher did this, you teacher did that... But what did you do? In music, that's what really counts. I can also brag here endlessy about my teacher's deeds, but it is irrelevant. Come on, tell us you experience with world class orchestras performing the Bruch, since you said you "already did". Or, even better: post a video to prove your points... it's so easy to bash the great on youtube and and then say "goodbye" and run away, my dear. Don't be that frivolous anymore.
@Hinata2845 Not Bad? Not Bad? I'm really only half-kidding you here...But ask yourself this question.
Is there anyone else that can use the bow like Kyung can? I don't think so. Her bow technique is nothing short of amazing in this vid..........Cheers!!!:)
I'm going to play the 1st 90 seconds of this violin concerto for the audition on America's Got Talent, IF I get through to the next phase of this epic competition. I hope everyone will like it!
She seems quite satisfied with her performance at the end and quite rightly so. Best interpretation of Bruch violin concerto I've ever heard. Not only did she play well, but the violin was perfectly in sync with the orchestra. Very impressive indeed!
@crabmasterdeluxe In 1989, Mutter married her first husband, Detlef Wunderlich, with whom she had two children, Arabella and Richard. Wunderlich died of cancer in 1995. She married the pianist and conductor André Previn in 2002.
She is a little scary in this particular video... and the conductor does seem to be going crazy. However, scrolling away from the video and listening the music they make, does it matter? :)
a lot of the time the conductor will allow the soloist to lead instead of him/her. This conductor looks pretty laid back, you can notice at certain parts everyone shifts their attention to him.
Absolutely fantastic!! I have to wonder about the conductor though; nobody is looking at him and, therefore, all he seems to be doing is acting like a clown...wonder if this is a general problem with conductors....
Excuse me, I notice that you have both the 1st and 3rd movements recorded. Do you by any chance have the 2nd movement recording from this concert? I can't seem to find it on youtube. Sorry~!
For this piece and Mendelssohn, Kyung Wha Chung is just the absolute best. Notice how bold she is with those staccato jumping notes - I haven't seen any more who can better that. The note came out with bounce and yet with body. It is an impossible feat. I almost have tears in my eyes each time I watch. And those quick long up bows that starts a phrase.....she is not human....
@bearbear631 Her bow technique is nothing short of amazing.
I too watch in awe as she plays here.
This is one of those performances where everything comes together. The orchestra is in sync and playing great. And Kyung is spot on. One of my favorite videos on youtube. Kyung Wha Chung is a superb musician. :)
You have to work hard to get to be that good ...no matter how talented.
What makes her playing so special and totally distinct is a certain intense excitement which comes through in all her performances. There have never been a more spontaneous and imaginative violinist. This kind of musicality is so elusive and sounds so completely natural that a musician, in order to play like this, has to have musical talents of volcanic proportions.
This evening I heard the "Magic flute" performed in Metropolitan. Would be nice of you to support our Project building a childrens hospital in Kambodscha by taking place. Thanks Crysalla

If so, is this not a call from the conductor(any conductor) what spped do you wish? Kyung Wha Chung's version of the Bruch concerto is by far the best interpretation of the piece. It is as if he wrote this piece for her alone. Her style of playing and his composition of this piece is like destiny
kyung wha chung's interpretation of the bruch is the greatest. the most pure, fitting interpretation of this piece. something about her style just absolutely clicks with this
shes like a GIANT with that playing and stature at the ends of phrases. fuck man. if i could be around to watch all her performances from that age, id probably jizz-in-my-pants... if you know what i mean

I heard Ms.Chung's interpretation of 2nd movement was always controversial.... maybe that's why the OP is not posting it...
ikickss 2 years ago
what do youmean its always controversial?????? its the first time Im hearing about this.
vlhere 2 years ago
Oh, you mean when she gets nekkid, smashes her fiddle, and then slaughters a goat on stage? Yeah, that's kinda controversial, I guess.
Seriously, what the hell are you talking about?

I had read somewhere that she had left Galamian for DeLay, I could be mistaken.
soundviewbx 3 years ago
I don't think that is true.
violinmusicfan 2 years ago
That is not correct. She remained with Galamian till her graduation from Juliard.
twofinedays 2 years ago
No. Maybe DeLay was an assistant of Galamian.
bachadmirer 2 years ago
One word only: AMAZING !
She must be around 16 yrs old? because Andre Previn looks quite young.
DrLuu1972 3 years ago
At that time, Kyung Wha Chung was in her 20's.
bachadmirer 2 years ago
Does anybody know where can i download it to have it on itunes? If it's free, better :D
Alphanur 3 years ago
She is one of Delay's!!!
R.I.P. Dorothy DeLay! we miss you!!!!!!!
soundviewbx 3 years ago
Actually, Kyung Wha Chung is one of Galamian's pupils, not Delay's.
seungtaik 3 years ago
She assisted Galamian with Itzhak Perlman and Kyung-wha Chung. :D
