I had to laugh today when I heard Obama wants to give a $500 tax cut to middle class, I remember hearing friends who were democrats laughing at the $600 Bush was going to give to each American that made over $30K. They said that wasn't going to do anything, just waste tax money. I can't wait to ask so what do you think about Obama's plan? Maybe they will see giving money back is good?

His plan is really an income transfer where people who don't pay taxes also get a check from the IRS. In the past, this was called welfare. Obama's only genius is to call it a tax cut.

But wait, they pay FICA taxes, dont they? Sure, but let's not give them a rebate on FICA taxes, because that just makes the SS surplus disappear, so let's make it a refundable tax credit. So, it's a tax refund, but it's not a refund from FICA, the only taxes many people pay, it's a refund against income taxes which they don't pay...but it's not welfare.

How can we get smart about our money if people chose to spend, spend, spend and save less? This is a problem our federal government has had for 30 years? It is not a Democrat or Barack Obama problem like you so biasedly suggest. It is an American problem. face it Obama or McCain is gonna raise taxes because or economic situation is shaky. Reagan cut taxes but later raised them, Bush 1 and Clinton did the same thing during their terms.

Gas prices went up because China, the country we are so beholden to, bought up all of the surplus to ensure they had all of the energy necessary to keep the Olympics moving smoothly. That is why after the Olympics the prices went down. Research it on your own if you don't believe me.

During campaign, Obama said he was going to raise the CAP on the FICA tax. He now says he won't raise taxes on anyone earning under $250,000. 2008 fica cap = $102,000 Is he now saying he won't raise the CAP ? If so , how does he pay for Social Security benefits ? Does he plan to suspend fica taxes between earnings of $102,$250,000 and start again from $250,000 and up ? What does he really mean ? < 50k retirees no taxes ? How about <50k not retired ? very confusing

I think it is great that senior citizens making less than 50,000 won't have to pay taxes, but the problem with Obama's plan is that senior citizens will make a larger percentage in the future and this plan will allow the government to have less revenue. It Obama doesn't want senior citizens to pay taxes if they make less than 50,000, he'll have to pay for it. My grandma will vote for Obama for that reason now, she says.

There are 10M homeowners that don't itemize?!! Why?! If you don't itemize you can't claim the mortgage interest deduction which is huge. I itemize and deduct...do I get this tax break too? Apparently not. You know, I'm all in favor of tax cuts, but I'm a bit concerned with such a large % of people paying zero Fed'l income tax. What incentive do these people have to control govt spending...if they aren't paying for it?
