Chuck Norris was also the drummer in his band for six years. Jerry Reed himself knew Kung Fu and was a 20 degree black belt. He actual could fit into the same clothes that Bruce Lee wore in Enter The Dragon.
As a guitar player myself(different style) Jerry is one insperational musician and a hellava actor and Trucker ,me being a licenced truck mechanic ,Back in the day ,it was common to see Jerry,s cassettes in the truck cab and the radio tuned to a country station,Now, Taking a testdrive of a truck repaired is a Crapshoot and I just turn the radio OFF,The face of the trucker has changed drasticely ,,But Jerry is with me forever Son
I had lunch with Jerry Reed. By accident. John Jay Hooker (a famous politician, lawyer, business man of Nashville) took me out for lunch one day. We walked into Varallo's Chili (now torn town by some bastards) and John Jay said, "There's old Jerry. Let's have lunch with him." I was thrilled. I knew his music, but also enjoyed his acting. This musta been about 1995 or so. Though you meet a lot of stars in Nashville (music, movies, etc), meeting Jerry Reed was a thrill. He was a real man. Still is
Jerry was a friend of mine and the most incredible thing was to me that he played on a nylon string electrical classical guitar. No one did this at that time. Jerry told me that it was because the electric classical had such a gutsy sound to it. Incredible guitarist, and a great friend. I miss ya brother.
I met him personally in June 2000. I'll never forget that. I'm so thankful for this experience. His music, as well as Chets, are accompagning me since I'm 8 years old. And now I'm 54. I love him! - Sorry for the errors in my english. I'm just so touched when I now also found this video clip! Thanks so much for posting it.
I remember him from Smokie and the bandit, and never knew until recently he even played guitar. I feel like I missed out on a whole lot of gold. So glad youtube exists right now.
MultiPeteT, You are absolutely right : Jerry should have received more recognition, esp. for his fine guitar-picking. You Tube has several examples of him playing with Chet Atkins, America's finest guitar master...
Just when I've recovered from the last JR video, I run across this...Holy crap this guy had talent to spare! I don't think I've ever heard anyone else who mastered their instrument so well. Everything else about him (writing, singing, humor, etc) is just indescribable! Amen Son! Thank you for Jerry's music!
Usually when Elvis made a song famous it ruined it for everyone else because they justvcouldn't top the King. Jerry did a helluva job on this and made it original. Very cool rendition.
Guitarschool by a genious! Technique is one thing, aint many better than JR in that aspect but this man made everything swing and sway so you almost got "seasick"!
Thanks to whoever posted this one. Jerry uses these licks on his "Pickin" album circa 1998. I've listened to "Does Anybody Wanna Boogie" a zillion times trying to figure this one out. Dang...! now I actually get to see him do it!!!
Now I just wish Buster B. Jones was still with us to help pickers figure it out. I miss those guys.
Not to bash jerry in any way, he is one of my idols, but is it me or is the band , for the most part, completely unskilled? The percussion is horrible. Maybe they are all just really intimidated by his greatness. I would be too. Jerry was/is a genius.
well i dont know, Jerry Reed's bands never really had much percussion. Lol they probably ARE intimidated by his greatness. I would've loved to play alongside him though, too bad he's dead. R.I.P Snowman, Jerry Reed.
Have you heard Jerry's early rockabilly stuff? Much better than Elvis, and J. R. wrote most of his stuff back then, not sure how much writing Elvis did. I wish he'd get the respect as a musician he truly deserves.
Elvis was a great tallent, but he never wrote anything. The Colonel forced some writers to add Elvis as co-author before he would agree to record them. Parker was a leech. A controling leech.
I think he dropped the A string down to G too as well as the E down to D, and the little E is dropped down to D. You're basic G tuning, but man how the cat could play..... Son!
Chuck Norris was also the drummer in his band for six years. Jerry Reed himself knew Kung Fu and was a 20 degree black belt. He actual could fit into the same clothes that Bruce Lee wore in Enter The Dragon.
