You know, for all your bitching about Akane, none of you really get the character do you? The reason why Akane is so violent and cranky is because she's insecure about herself. She cant swim, she cant cook, she's jumped at school everyday and has no shot at a normal relationship with any boy at school unless they defeat her in combat. Then here comes Ranma, who's got all the social grace of a brick whose female form is far more attractive and better proportioned and much stronger than she is

Ranma was trained since he was two, Shampoo and Mouse are products of the Amazon enviornment, Ryoga and Ukyo to an extent are both self taught, while Kuno is the captain of the Kendo team he's weaker than Akane in hand to hand combat and the same should likely be assumed of Kodachi but she is roughly presented to be somewhere around Ukyo
@DonnieTsushiro 's level and even that's guessing since Kodachi's style relies on weaponized combat and above all grace, acrobatics and dexterity three things which Akane is lacking. As for comparisons to characters from Rumiko's other works, Akane is more like Shinobu Miyake than Lum. Both girls are about as normal as one in their worlds can get, both love the main characters but are repulsed by certain factors about him and both are crazy strong. Akane is far more likely to jump to conclusions
@DonnieTsushiro though more because Ranma doesn't actively seek the attention he gets and because he's engaged to marry her and her insecurities cannot handle the assumption of being cheated on by the one guy that she truly wants to be with. Akane's not willing to put up with Ranma's antics nor should she be expected to. Her Tsundere attitude is also shared with Ukyo and if you want to press the issue maybe Shampoo. Quit bashing the character unless you've got solid proof to back up your claims!

awww i actually like akane. Sure akane can be a bitch, and yes she needs to work on her attitude and stuff like that, but for the most part i like her. I also like shampoo too, though shampoo can get kind of annoying. There isn't anyone i could hate on this show which explains why i love this show so much. Rumiko made a really good series (as if urusei yatsura and maison ikkoku wasn't enough!).

@RyutheWeredragon Akane is not the strongest female of the cast. Hell she doesn't even work hard at her skills or even try to learn any moves. Plus she is not above taking short cuts ether. The Super Soba and the Battle Dogi are prime examples. Plus she couldn't win any fights without Ranma's help.

@NallMasaki Irritating is putting it mildly. To be honest, Akane can also be annoying, but I find her more likable then Kagome, in the sense that they don't play up all aspects of Akane as perfection, the way they do for Kagome. As much as I like Rumiko Takahashi, I'm seeing a trend in her characters. Most of her main females aren't very realistic, and they're almost always bitchy. It feels the most human of her characters are also the most hated, like Kikyo.
@Makilore I prefer Kikyo over Kagome. I also prefer Sango as I think she is hotter and actully bust her ass in the series like Inu-Yasha does. Kagome hardly fights sometimes and she always throws a stupid temper tantrum.
@NallMasaki Yes, I like Kikyo better as well. Sango is awesome. It's too bad that the show doesn't focus on her much except when her brother is in the mix. Personally, I think she would have made a better main character. And yes, Kagome is mostly useless in the series. Other then getting things going, she hardly does anything plot related and is an all round waste of animation.

She didn't unseal InuYasha, shatter the jewel, save him from Yura of the Hair, draw Tetsusaiga and rescue InuYasha from that demon mother thing, purify the jewel when she had it, reform Koga who was a dick before falling for her, almost kill Naraku when they got to his castle the first time, and then later wish the damn jewel out of existence and thus completely purify it and end the struggle for it. She didn't do anything like that, did she?
@DonnieTsushiro Out of 193 episodes, how many times does she need saving? When does she develop as a character? Besides getting the ball rolling and being a plot device here and there, she fades into the background in the later seasons and only takes center stage because of her romantic subplot. I'm pretty sure she failed to kill Naraku. She only wished the jewel out of existence once Inuyasha came to save her, proving again that she's only capable in the presence of romantic interest.

Personally, i like both Akane and Kagome and Shinobu and Lum. I like most everything about them, save for Kagome's lack of clothing practicality and Akane's jealousy but think about it this way. @DonnieTsushiro from those failures as a result. Also, I actually haven't read all the manga or watched the entire anime but i've seen the greater part of the series. Kagome's growth best showed itself in terms of her combat ability, remember how she started firing more arrows later on than at the start, and as you said as a romantic interest mainly in her dealing with Kikyo who i also love and InuYahsa. She was willing to save Kikyo after wishing her dead all the way back in season 2 i think

@DonnieTsushiro I don't hate Akane, but I'm not crazy about her either. It's Kagome that has most of my hatred. I can agree that she's not a mary-sue, she does have mary-sue like qualities. The number one reason I dislike her is because she needs a romantic interest to define most of her character. Don't worry, I don't take disembodies internet comments that seriously. I just like stating an opinion.
@NallMasaki May I remind you that Kagome is from present day Japan and before the series started had no reason to learn how to fight or defend herself the way Kikyo and Sango were forced to due to their home environments. Like it or not Kagome is the reason why Sango and the other characters were introduced in the first place since the jewel was in her body (actually if you really wanted to get technical, you could say that Kikyo is the reason for the story's start but I wont get into that)

@Makilore It's fantasy and comedy! They don't have to be realistic! The writer writes her characters the way she does for a reason and frankly one really shouldn't have to justify the actions of fictional characters anyways. If the writer wants them to do something, there's nothing stopping them from doing so. No one plays up anyone's perfection in either series. All the characters from Ranma and InuYasha are flawed in some way and those flaws exist to present the characters as human in some way

She is always saying she is a martial artist, and thinks she can do everything anyone else can on the first try, but she never do's any real training to better herself against the others. Also she always tells Ranma to stay out of her fights but she would lose anyway because of her stupid eog and pride.
@NallMasaki Actually in the manga we can see her sparring with Ranma a few times that alone will improve her movements, stamina, clumsiness and speed. We can see her jogging in the mornings and lifting weights in her rooms. Akane is definitely a Martial artist, not as skilled as the others cause it isn't the main focus in her life ( Unlike Shampoo or Mousse who grew up in a warrior society) and the only time I recall that she tells Ranma to stay out of a fight was in the Dojo Destroyer arc.

@NallMasaki I already explained that she does train seriously at least in the manga, she accepts challenges from both Shampo and Ukyo and the Dojo Destroyer, Ling Ling& Lung Lung and the girl who at first defeat her and take away the Dojo's sign so she does look for challengers to better herself, I never said she and Ranma are the greatest couple ( They can do better than themselves) but Akane isn't as bad as make by some of her haters. @NallMasaki It's also stated in canon (In the latest OAV and the manga chapter that it was based on) that Akane is the strongest of all of Ranma's fiancees, if Ranma would take training her seriously, then Ukyo and Shampoo would never be able to keep up.
@MusaMansu well, still, at the end Ranma proves his love to Akane while she's uncontious in his arms, telling her he's awkward with words but what he always wanted to say to her was a simple "I love you". After Akane tells him she heard everything and just wasn't able to react. Throughout the whole anime/manga they're crazy in love but don't want to admit it. One of the cutest couples in anime/manga history if you ask me :D
@LittleRainbowMiss He takes it back and it could have been that he said it out of simple grief over the death of a close friend. Takahashi said that she left the series open ended and that the only teen that ends up with a conclusive romantic ending is Ryoga and Akari. Although, the fact that Ranma and Akane were in love is true (According to the memorial book), they never ended up together.

Akane is.. female, but she is well known as a furious tomboy. Her hair is blue blackish brown, but her name means red. She does not shy away from competition or games. She likes basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. Her movements are graceful, contained clumsiness. Akane looks a little like Snow White. Her tactics can sometimes be thuggish with an emphasis on brute strength. Akane wants to be a superb cook lol... but even this is tomboyish... though she might improve.
I love the ranma 1/2 series for all of its hilarity. Akane tendo is my favorite character from that series. I think people are getting way to serious for this series. It was a slapstick comedy. To anaylze ranma 1/2 characters is crazy, especially comparing it to real life. :)

If Ranma was with Shampoo or Ukyo, Akane would hit him, ignore him, but that's it. In the last chapter, Ukyo and Shampoo ruined Ranma and Akane's wedding, not caring about how Ranma feels. And in the final arc, Akane risked her life to save Ranma's. That's true love right there. And she had faith in Ranma saving her in both movies and several times of the manga. she waited for him. In the manga it's easier to see how she cares for him

I love her, despite all the horrible things she has done, because for me she is one of the Ranma 1/2 characters who proves to possess a great sense of humanity in her. She is imperfect, very much flawed, lethal when angry, but still holds great compassion that extends even towards her enemies, even towards people who have tried to harm her. In this series, I think that's quite rare. Lol.
@waffletard I totally agree. I don't know why a lot of people hate her. I personally think she is the best female character in this show. Not only can she fight but she is never backs down and as you said still has flaws. She cant cook (like me), she never let's anyone take advantage of her (like me) and very strong willed and independent (like me)
I find it quite saddening how I click on a video about Akane, hoping to see more to the good side of her, and a horde of people who dislike her throw negative comments about around. As an Akane fan, I know of her major flaws, really. And I accept them just as much as I accept the other characters'. But it just kind of hurts for me that in a place wherein she is supposed to be tributed to, she still can't be left alone by the haters. C'mon, people, please. Enough with the who's better than who.

And this is what annoys me; usually, Ranma does nothing wrong to incur wrath. Most of the time, she's just angry for no reason on his part, and Rumiko Takahashi once again doesn't seem to understand gender equality. Because a) She seems to always have people who would be kind to be angry and tomboyish, and b) Through no fault of themselves, there's always some sort of violence associated. That is just wrong.

Ranma was trained since he was two, Shampoo and Mouse are products of the Amazon enviornment, Ryoga and Ukyo to an extent are both self taught, while Kuno is the captain of the Kendo team he's weaker than Akane in hand to hand combat and the same should likely be assumed of Kodachi but she is roughly presented to be somewhere around Ukyo

As for comparisons to characters from Rumiko's other works, Akane is more like Shinobu Miyake than Lum. Both girls are about as normal as one in their worlds can get, both love the main characters but are repulsed by certain factors about him and both are crazy strong. Akane is far more likely to jump to conclusions

I also like shampoo too, though shampoo can get kind of annoying. There isn't anyone i could hate on this show which explains why i love this show so much. To be honest, Akane can also be annoying, but I find her more likable then Kagome, in the sense that they don't play up all aspects of Akane as perfection, the way they do for Kagome. As much as I like Rumiko Takahashi, I'm seeing a trend in her characters. Most of her main females aren't very realistic, and they're almost always bitchy. It feels the most human of her characters are also the most hated, like Kikyo.

Personally, I think she would have made a better main character. And yes, Kagome is mostly useless in the series. She didn't unseal InuYasha, shatter the jewel, save him from Yura of the Hair, draw Tetsusaiga and rescue InuYasha from that demon mother thing, purify the jewel when she had it, reform Koga who was a dick before falling for her, almost kill Naraku when they got to his castle the first time, and then later wish the damn jewel out of existence and thus completely purify it and end the struggle for it. She didn't do anything like that, did she?

Besides getting the ball rolling and being a plot device here and there, she fades into the background in the later seasons and only takes center stage because of her romantic subplot. I'm pretty sure she failed to kill Naraku. She only wished the jewel out of existence once Inuyasha came to save her, proving again that she's only capable in the presence of romantic interest.

Kagome's growth best showed itself in terms of her combat ability, remember how she started firing more arrows later on than at the start, and as you said as a romantic interest mainly in her dealing with Kikyo who i also love and InuYahsa. She was willing to save Kikyo after wishing her dead all the way back in season 2 i think

@NallMasaki May I remind you that Kagome is from present day Japan and before the series started had no reason to learn how to fight or defend herself the way Kikyo and Sango were forced to due to their home environments. Like it or not Kagome is the reason why Sango and the other characters were introduced in the first place since the jewel was in her body (actually if you really wanted to get technical, you could say that Kikyo is the reason for the story's start but I wont get into that)

The writer writes her characters the way she does for a reason and frankly one really shouldn't have to justify the actions of fictional characters anyways. If the writer wants them to do something, there's nothing stopping them from doing so. No one plays up anyone's perfection in either series. All the characters from Ranma and InuYasha are flawed in some way and those flaws exist to present the characters as human in some way

@NallMasaki Actually in the manga we can see her sparring with Ranma a few times that alone will improve her movements, stamina, clumsiness and speed. We can see her jogging in the mornings and lifting weights in her rooms. Akane is definitely a Martial artist, not as skilled as the others cause it isn't the main focus in her life ( Unlike Shampoo or Mousse who grew up in a warrior society) and the only time I recall that she tells Ranma to stay out of a fight was in the Dojo Destroyer arc.

Takahashi said that she left the series open ended and that the only teen that ends up with a conclusive romantic ending is Ryoga and Akari. Although, the fact that Ranma and Akane were in love is true (According to the memorial book), they never ended up together.

I love the ranma 1/2 series for all of its hilarity. Akane tendo is my favorite character from that series. I think people are getting way to serious for this series. It was a slapstick comedy. To anaylze ranma 1/2 characters is crazy, especially comparing it to real life. :)

Man, I'm really starting to get angry. At the Akane haters. I mean, sure she gets mad but then again, the way Ranma acts, he sorta asks for it. Just because she can't cook or swim that's okay. It's the inside that matters. At least she doesn't drug up Ranma or break him up with somebody else to make him fall in love with her. Sure she's jealous but all in all, when she loves someone she'll let them go unlike the others do. Besides for many reasons, Ranma and Shampoo aren't compatible.

@NallMasaki Wrong. Akane has faith in Ranma. She's usually worried about him 90% of the time. Yes, Akane jumps to conclusions, but a pretty good amount of the time, Ranma kinda asks for it. Of course ANY girl would get pissed if their fiance(or any guy at all) called them a "sexless tomboy" or "barrel body". It's just that Akane overreacts. But she still has good reason to be angry. I'm not going to hate you for not liking akane(it's your opinion) but I'm telling you that she's not a bad person.

At least Akane would want Ranma to love her for herself unlike Shampoo or Kodachi who would drug Ranma to make him hold them or Ukyo who would just treat Ranma like a prize instead of a husband and be proud for "winning" him. This is Ranma we're talking about, he would NEVER want to be treated that way from Ukyo. And in the movies, OAVs and the manga, it's easier to see how Akane is good. Have you seen the whole series?

If Ranma was with Shampoo or Ukyo, Akane would hit him, ignore him, but that's it. In the last chapter, Ukyo and Shampoo ruined Ranma and Akane's wedding, not caring about how Ranma feels. And in the final arc, Akane risked her life to save Ranma's. That's true love right there. And she had faith in Ranma saving her in both movies and several times of the manga. she waited for him. In the manga it's easier to see how she cares for him

Akane doesn't want to show her feelings to Ranma because she's scared he'll reject her... AND Ranma does pretty much the same thing anyways so Akane's not to blame. Shampoo turns into a cat, which ranma fears. And she comes from a village where Ranma could never adapt to.

That and because Ranma beat her so easily in their sparring match earlier. Plus, why wouldn't Ranma want to hide his curse? It made him feel ashamed and that people would think of him as a freak if they did know. In any case, he was planning on showing them until the tomboy walked in on him.

I love her, despite all the horrible things she has done, because for me she is one of the Ranma 1/2 characters who proves to possess a great sense of humanity in her. She is imperfect, very much flawed, lethal when angry, but still holds great compassion that extends even towards her enemies, even towards people who have tried to harm her. In this series, I think that's quite rare. Lol.

Not only can she fight but she is never backs down and as you said still has flaws. She cant cook (like me), she never let's anyone take advantage of her (like me) and very strong willed and independent (like me)

I find it quite saddening how I click on a video about Akane, hoping to see more to the good side of her, and a horde of people who dislike her throw negative comments about around. As an Akane fan, I know of her major flaws, really. And I accept them just as much as I accept the other characters'. But it just kind of hurts for me that in a place wherein she is supposed to be tributed to, she still can't be left alone by the haters. C'mon, people, please. Enough with the who's better than who.

And this is what annoys me; usually, Ranma does nothing wrong to incur wrath. Most of the time, she's just angry for no reason on his part, and Rumiko Takahashi once again doesn't seem to understand gender equality. Because a) She seems to always have people who would be kind to be angry and tomboyish, and b) Through no fault of themselves, there's always some sort of violence associated. That is just wrong.

Ranma & Akane at 1st dont want to try to get to know each other.
However, Ranma is openly interested in Akane after she gets her hair cut, Ranma compliments Akane.
And what does Akane do? Ignores it & say Ranma is lying to her, even when he is blushing while saying it!
I can understand Akane rejecting Ranma at 1st because of the whole bath incident, but this is after she has forgiven him for that!

She is touched by his compliment but she doesn't know if he's serious or not (remember when he previous said she was cute when she smile and made fun of her soon after). But we can see at her face that she's touched. On the other hand, as she's not in love with him yet at this moment, she react in a more teasing way that she would have done after. It was, like she said "for him to stop to feel guitly" !

Akane didn't need Ranma to beat all the boys who attack her the morning before his arrival. All the problems she had during the serie was because of Ranma, the only exception been Happosai !! Without Ranma Akane's life would be peaceful !

Im sorry if you feel Akane should be the star of Ranma ½ standing on her own against Kuno, Happosai, Ryoga, Taro, Prince Toma, and everyone else that wants to marry her or do her bodily harm, but if that what you want, fine.
