where did you order yours from? iv heard alot about the dot not being bright enough and iv tried to search for the ultra bright and iv found some that say red only but it doesnt say extra bright so im just wondering if its red only that must be the brightest one??
@Sacreppin916 I ordered mine through B&H Video/Photo. They had the best deal atthe time.
Yes the red only is alot brighter then the red/green version. If you are going to put this sight on an AR platform rifle make sure you order the tall mount.
The 30mm mount is a cheap no name one I picked up at a gun show. I think I paid $15 for it. But it has held and I haven't lost zero in almost 3 years. It does an absolute co-witness on my AR.
I recently bought a sightmark ultrashot, it worked well on my airsoft gun, but when I got it out to the range on my AR it disappointed me, I'm looking for a good quality red dot or holographic sight, and I don't wanna cough up over 250 for it, do you guys recommend this one?
@AzPapaLes alright thank you, do you know what site has the best price on em, or should i purchase it from the vortex website? I'm just curious because i really want the lifetime warranty, thats whats selling me on it.
Question for anyone who might know.... I understand you can co-witness your front site through the Vortex, but can you use both front and REAR sites, perhaps with a flip-up rear site? Thanks!
@gibbyair2 Yes, that is what the sight is designed for. Yes I have used the screw in doubler. It does help with those 100 yard shots. Vortex even has an anti-relection( aka anti flash) filter for the front of the sight too(about $35 if remember right).
Great scope. I have an Eotech with magnifier and I really enjoy the Vortex just as much although I have the red/green version and just like everyone else stated it's not very bright in the sunlight. I would like to see if they would allow me to trade to the newer version. BTW that's pretty horrible that someone would purposely damage one just to see if a manufacture would exchange it. That's one huge reason we pay more for products!
@ohioleadslinger The problem u may be having is that the red dot only turns off instantly when u press the power button but the green has a 3 second hold before it powers off. I beleive that was to make it more battle friendly, u can see the problem with the location of the button if u bump the red dot button ur sight powers off. i have the red green for about 1yr with no problems.
@goldstars352 Nope it actualy locked up. No matter how long you pushed any button it woudn't shut off. Vortex repaired it and sent it back. I forget what the invoice said was the repair but I could tell they removed the rubber cover on the functions button and had glued it back after. I could see the new glue line.
@ohioleadslinger When I sent my red/green Strikefire back to Vortex I was told by customer service that they do not repair the sights, they simply ship out new ones as replacements. My guess is that they pay such a low price to have them made that it is more cost effective to simply replace the bad units. Doesn't matter to me. The replacement unit I got works like a champ!
@AzPapaLes Pehaps they have changed they way they treat defective optics. My experiance was three years ago. For me I just bit the bullet I should ahve in the first palce and when with a Milspec optic that I know won't crap out on me. Aimpont ML3 going strong.
@Billyjoehenry I picked it up at the NRA show here in Phoenix a couple years ago. It isn't anything special...just inexpensive. I think I paid $20 for it. Just google a 30mm cantilever scope mount. There are lots of them being sold by several companies. Prices range from $12 on up to several hundred dollars. Needless to say this is not what I would consider a "battle sight" setup. But it does work well enough for the range and for hunting.

I like the review but I just have a question. What brand of mount is that and does it co witness? I want a cantilever mount also.

@BassmanSW Co-witness refers to both front and rear sights. I am running a flip up rear sight(A,R.M.S. 40Lp) and it works perfect.
I out a very light dab of some petrolium jelly on my lens caps to help with closing the caps. It works pretty good
Take care

would this be good for shooting targets at 100 yards and under, have you used the doubler?

My red/green did exactly the same thing, I had to pull the battery to get it to shut off then stick it back in and turn it on.
