this is so cool. i was actually looking through stuffs that would help for my biology test. all was boring till i came across this...thanks. LETS TALK ABOUT GENES AND NOT TROUSERS
yay! this was an awesome video! it covers everything in my class right now! very helpful, and i absolutly LOVE the accent, tis amazing! but really, thank you! =D
i saw this last school year and its like the best rap ever, "lets talk about jeans and i dont mean trousahs" is a new inside joke with my friend and i !
@futb0lista7777777 Get a genetic test. It aint simple. Genetic tests are not widely available and are not very accurate (yet). But just wait and see if your phenotype is bad, then you probably have a bad genotype.
@futb0lista7777777 Why do you want to know if you have good genes? As far as I know, you only get a genetic test if you are at high risk of getting a genetic disease. This testing requires lots of counselling and stuff, and you must be at high risk (eg. your parents had the disease). If you think you have good traits you probably have good genes, however, I don't think there is such thing as good or bad genes.
@Jepe2323 i have been training for about half of my life and getting good results have to do with good genetics therefore i want to know..thanks anyway! :)
Glad you mentioned the amino acids. But I wonder why at 1:51 the graphic for proteins is so misleading. Proteins and amino acids are in every living thing, in more than adequate supply, so there's no reason for the graphic to equate protein with animal products.
That is true, but I needed to put in an image that resonated with many people's knowledge of protein - (I.e. something obtained from certain foods as a source of nutrition). I could have included nuts/soy products etc but space was limited.
Do you have any suggestion towards a more suitable image, or is it better without one used there perhaps?
Oort
PS. That was me on World service - Recorded January 2010 @ The Royal Society, London. Cheers for the heads up.
Understood. Rather than reinforce people's inaccurate notions about protein, you have an opportunity to expand their understanding.
Before suggesting an image replacement, we need to establish human dietary facts.
Humans make all the protein they need from 9 essential amino acids. This is why the myth that "soy is needed" still exists. It's connected to the "you need complete protein" myth, which also correlates with hemp and quinoa.
All living things contains proteins and amino acids (cont.)
Since food is a major influence on health and ecological stability, this all matters.
If people are reluctant to accept responsibility on global warming, imagine how hostile they'll be to the notion that their diets are not only harming them, but damaging the biosphere.
The UN's Food & Agriculture report "Livestocks Long Shadow" finally admits the ecological problem with animal-derived proteins. The World Watch Institute report says the UN undercounted GHG's by over half.
There's also the inescapable mathematical truth that more people can be fed healthily with plant foods than animal foods. Livestock wastes photosynthetic energy, which is the basis for our food web.
People starve to death every day because of our animal-based agricultural. And this is one more reason it's important that people are educated about protein myths. One can get all the protein they need by eating a variety of plant foods. Amino acid assembly creates proteins we need from the plants.
In short, I would suggest including images of foods that are not what people typically misconstrue as being the only protein sources (soy, meat, dairy, etc). Use the opportunity to subtly expand their horizons.
I would include beans, rice, quinoa, nuts, hemp, etc. But also a variety of fruits, vegetables. Soy is OK too.
Strictly speaking, a human can get all the protein that need from grazing clover, but it wouldn't be pleasant eat that much clover. :-)
so lets talk about jeans and i dont mean trousers, the countless amountless of life all around us, but how to account for lifes behaviours and structures, is a question recieved from many answers and cultures. LUV THIS SONG <3
