I saw the segment today and was moved by your story as well. I have a teenaged son myself, so I truly rejoice to see how hard you've worked to turn your life around. You are blessed to have that option. My son has been suffering with a life altering illness for the last seven years that no doctor has been able to diagnose. He wants to be a musician,too. When the whole world puts us down because of our race (if you're black), we should try to uplift not discourage each other. What Judge Hatchett did was called networking. She pulled strings to bring opportunities to him: He was able to test out his writing skills with the pros and he was accepted to a school to get away from the gang environment. That's the success--another black person helping another. It doesn't matter whether he becomes a success at singing or writing.
