word on the street is that cows were getting sick and putting out bad milk because they were being fed grain (something their bodies don't handle well at all) rather than being allowed to graze on grass..people were dying from bad milk because the cows were sick from grain, and the solution was to pasteurize. Not because raw cow milk was inherently bad, but because farmers were raising cows in a crappy way. Now we have antibiotics and pasteurization to cover up their sickly cow bodies and milk
but have to consider how long it can take to get from the cow to your fridge, raw milk wouldn't last long enough, pasteurized milk can give a use by date of about 22 days. raw milk isn't really an option in a world of huge national companies
Where did you get this from? I'm doing a school project on pasteurization and need to site it with the original author and what not. I know its History Channel from the thing in the upper right corner, but I need a URL.
Raw milk does NOT cause tuberculosis but pasturizing it does destroy much of the nutritional value. Americans were far healthier in the old days on raw milk than they are today on the heated stuff. The bacteria fear was 'cooked' up by the dairy industry that could make more milk and more money by using more crammed quarters for the cows and overcome poor hygiene by zapping the milk. The public is left with a milk that does more harm than good because the healthy enzymes have been destroyed.
Wow! Thanks for sharing! I'm in organic chemistry and I just randomly checked out this video when I heard about pasteurization being used for wine by killing the bacteria.
I didn't think about milk and I certainly had never heard that pasteurization kills nutritious enzymes. Thank you so much for sharing! Are you a chemist, a farmer, or possibly just knowledgeable?...

And yet the video doesn't explain what caused the need to pasteurize in the first place, filthy farming practices.

RAW milk is so much better for us. NO Comparison to pasteurized. Pasteurized milk is dead white fluid that barely resembles raw milk.
