in the comment below Diana Deutch refers to a statement made in the book: Life Mind and the Universe in the chapter Music and Talk and she is selected as the cutting edge great scientist in this area of our time (well worth reading for musicians) and the "perception differences" she is talking about pertains to music.
I want to see more "my favorite...of all time" as these titles seem to give rise to multiple nasty or dismissive comments. It would make reading the comments more enjoyable as who can really argue with that. When the top Artists themselves pick their favorites since their opinions are based on a master understanding i listen, Even so it's aesthetic preference we are talking about and Diana Deutch tells us that perception differences depend on the mother tongue and geographical origin of a person
The greatest, the best,Etc...yawn.These titles(appearing all over the net) have lost their punch as it becomes obvious everyone want's their favorites remembered that way and hey to add to the "what about" just to make a point Segovia,Django Rheinhart, etc. My Favorite solo is From Lazarus Sin's Monument..but I wont say it's best-That's a matter of taste.
Gilmour's Comfortably Numb should easily be number one. None of these have any where close to the effect that Comfortably Numb does. Oh and Slash is incredibly overrated, just saying.
See the List has some good solos but its all based on Opinion too. There are many more solo's out there that could be perfect for this but its his taste. Personally I'd have the 9 minute voodoo child by Hendrix or the 10 minute Eruption solo in clips on there just make people go search for the longer solos. And this should not be titled 10 greatest, just you Favorites!
No Van Halen, or how about Ace Frehley "Shock Me" or some Nugent, Living Colour, Ty Tabor.........Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!!!!!! Whomever composed this list, should get their head examined. And another thing that people should go before they make a statement like "10 Greatest" or "Best". Instead of those words, you should put "My Favorite", that way you don't look like such an idiot.
@richard1701able your right. back in black, you shook me all night long, and hells bells were all in 1980. hell, thunderstruck was 1990. big jack was 2008 and..... oh wait... sweet child, 1987
Saw Skynyard live Winterland SF winter '74-'75.They played long set lit crowd on fire.Music ended, crowd lit matches, held them up,started stomping, place felt like it was coming apart. The band returned and played 25min Freebird.I stood 10 ft from amps; I'd swear the sound was blowing' my hair back. This was easily the greatest concert I've ever seen (I've seen Hendrix,Clapton,Allman Bros,Black Sabbath,Frampton,Dire Straits,Outlaws,Trower...all terrific! But, this 1 concert was out of body amazing!!
This video is very shocking because Chuck Norris isn't in the list! Chuck is also going to kick ass of people who think they can produce a list of 10 greatest guitar solo's of all time.
molly hatchet flirtin with disaster? just a solid mentionable wouldve been enough. pretty much agree with most of the list except eruption was not on it, but nice list anyways
Dude, the best part of "All along the watchtower" was yet to come, and you cut it just before that??!!! please change your account name, it does Hendrix no good....
Ok. that's his stupid list. Key to a great solo is to be different. Here's mine:
1. Comfortably Numb. ) It really is, genius on anyone's list.
2. Stairway To Heaven. ) Might be old and overplayed, but take it from a different angle.
3. All Along The Watchtower.
4. November Rain Outro.
5. Free Bird.
Pink floyd unarguably the best artists on the planet. No matter if you disagree, but they have the best selling, most known and influenced album in the history of music: Dark Side Of The Moon.
But Pink Floyd sucks? This is the first I've heard of this. Why, not enough notes? Gilmour possesses one of the most recognizable guitar tones of all time.
I can see paying homage to these guys, but this list is lacking a great deal. There are a few artists that don't belong and the one's that do don't have their best solos showcased. By the way, Hendrix isn't God and time hasn't ended. xxpeacexx
plzzz!! van halen?? u got to be kidding me.. thats highschool shit.. yeah yeah yeah there is the speed but no fuckin feeling.. eddie should have stuck to studio guitar and teaching lessons at a dime store music store.. there is nothing that grabs ur soul in his playing.. nothin but speed and tech.. big deal..
yeah dude jimi was in there and as long as hendrix, clapton and srv are in the list, its a pretty good list to me.. im not sure if steve gains deserves the top spot but he was awsum.. and i think u forgot alvin lee from ten years after.. and sorry i dont think pinkfloyd would have made my list either.... they were great until they talk about politics.. i wish performers and actors would stf up about politics.. who the fuk are they to preach to the working class..
haha, y'all are funny "WTF wheres my favorite song!!" relax people, its one video, by one guy on one site. Enjoy the music, or listen to something else.
Comfortably Numb is the best solo ever. Hotel California and Heartbreaker are good too. Hey Joe by Hendrix played with his teeth live at Monterey in 67 is pretty bad ass too.
go to the helllllll you are a fucking ass hole!!!!!! where is Randy Rhoads Mr Crowly, where is eruption by Van Halen!! you dont known any of the music!!!!!
Never been a big Hendrix fan, although I play left handed. My favorite is Peter Frampton. Not a "shredder" but that's what I like. EVH, Joe Satrini, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Jeff Beck top my list.
hey uploader, you should make a video, top 20 guitar solos, whats technically the best. And you should check out Kirk Hammett from Metallica if u dont know him yet. But this video is too subjective :[
10 greatest guitar solos of all time, and no Zappa or Beck? Moreover, he includes a solo by John Frusciante, which repeats the same motif over and over?
@Jferreir4 No Pink Floyd because they fucking suck!. Honestly, David Gilmour has to be the most mediocre guitarist of all time. He writes the most forgettable, substance lacking solos ever! Please listen to some real music and then start passing judgment!
Well, top 10 to someone, anyway... By the way, the lion's share of the solo in Hotel California is played by Don Felder, not any of the Eagles shown in the pictures shown during the video - although Joe Walsh did contribute to it. And picking Cocaine over Crossroads? And as others have said, not many solos more iconic - or stylish - than David Gilmour's in Comfortably Numb.
Comfortably Numb, Kid Charlamagne, Whole Lotta Luv, Johnny B. Goode, Because We Ended as Lovers, La Villa Stangliada (Rush), Heaven and Hell (Sabbath w/ Dio), Rainbow in the Dark, Eruption, anything by Hendrix
Chuck Berry? Toto? Joann Jett? Rolling Stones? ACDC? Dire Straits? ZZ Top? JJ Cale? Allman Brothers? Deep Purple? PINK FLOYD?!?!?!?!?! You got some really great solos there, but you missed out on some as well...
@freelocura #3. All Along The Watchtower for some reason? out of all the Hendrix solo's? WTF? not to say that AATW is a bad cover or tune, it's just not really much of anything as far as main solo's go...
I've never heard more imaginative and amazing solos than from the genius Frank Zappa : Black Napkins, Watermelon In Easter Hay, The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution, Willie The Pimp, Inca Roads....it goes on and on. Frank Zappa makes every other guitar player look thin....And of course, there's also Jeff Beck...God in person. :-)
good list for some of the more recognizable guitar solos of all time but best...HELL NO...each guitarist on this list has amazing solos but all have better than what u listed, plus u can not leave out comfortably numb, by far one of the greatest sounding solos in the history of ROCK N ROLL
you must not have heard the song eruption.... stairway is an amazing song with an incredible SOUNDING solo, not THAT hard to play, free bird is the same, but its also with 2 guitarists and a third playing rythym
I love some of these solos. Slash's solo in Sweet Child tells a brilliant story and draws you in in a way that would make even my mother listen while bobbing her head. The Black Sabbath solo is a poor choice if you ask me... it's more than just a wink to Led Zeppelin, it's a copy. If you want to expand you musical mind then check out Trey Azagthoth too... The guitar is a wonderful instrument and there are some who really know how to bring it to life!
Stevie Ray Vaughn never used distortion Boxes, amazing and the top one of these 10 picks,How about Django Reinhardt.. the two finger maniac in black and white from the 1940's up there with Jimmy H, Vai, page, Bonamassa etec, etc, etc,
I think you forgot to put Rock Solos. I beg to differ about top 10 otherwise. Try this from 7:40 to 10:00 Dire straits & Eric Clapton at Mandela concert sultans of swing live.
I think you did a great job in the compilation. Remember in Hotel California there were 2 leads and a rythem (sp) (wink) along with them. I love your style. Can you guess who wrote HC? I mean without looking it up? Remain Blessed
Slash is the coolest person alive.

good list for some of the more recognizable guitar solos of all time but best...HELL NO...each guitarist on this list has amazing solos but all have better than what u listed, plus u can not leave out comfortably numb, by far one of the greatest sounding solos in the history of ROCK N ROLL

you must not have heard the song eruption.... stairway is an amazing song with an incredible SOUNDING solo, not THAT hard to play, free bird is the same, but its also with 2 guitarists and a third playing rythym

adding comfortably numb, kicking out some would make a fine list, this is OK. but missing something.

Jimi Hendrix was cited in a 1969 interview shortly after Woodstock:
Interviewer: "So Jimi, what's it like to be the best guitarist in the world?"
Jimi: "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher".
Crap list, no Paul Kossoff either!
Nuff said ;-)

A poor list, reflecting the curator's limited exposure....

I think you forgot to put Rock Solos. I beg to differ about top 10 otherwise. Try this from 7:40 to 10:00 Dire straits & Eric Clapton at Mandela concert sultans of swing live.

i would not have picked all along the watchtower for jimi's solo. god damn that guy has so many good solos. i don't know what i'd pick.

I think you did a great job in the compilation. Remember in Hotel California there were 2 leads and a rythem (sp) (wink) along with them. I love your style. Can you guess who wrote HC? I mean without looking it up? Remain Blessed
