Who else just realized that this song is a nod to 1984? In the book the Meganation Oceania is always at war with either EURASIA, or East Asia, which are also both Meganations. The whole triad of war is necessary to keep their populations in line (and an excuse to invoke martial law).
It can reference whatever the fuck I want it to reference, considering that music is guaranteed to ellicit different responses in different people. It may mean one thing to you, and something wholly different to me.
@blargation I just wanted to write about Orwell's book and then i have seen your comment. Unfortunately, slowly the world tends to go in the direction described in the book
@blargation I noticed that when I heard the song for the first time a while back, and Muse has actually acknowledged the song as being a reference to Eurasia from 1984, so your right actually.
@keoism There are SOME idiots alongside the protesters, and of course the media is only ever going to show the idiots. A lot of people know exactly what they are protesting. Do YOU know why they are protesting? Did you know the U.S.A is over fifteen trillion dollars in dept to a private organisation, that is allowed to print money at will, and can never be taken to court? (The Federal reserve.) If you have to ask me what the FED has to do with wall street, you're the idiot.
@keoism while that may be true, and many people are jumping on the bandwagon; you can't help but wonder if things are going to change in this country. From the corruption to the 1% of the pop, these people are the only ones trying to change that...
@keoism If you are really that ignorant to generalize the Wall Street protesters like that, you need to do your research before you can say anything about them.
this group is amazing. when you listen to their music. its not like anything you would ever hear on the radio. MUSE is MUSE and Matt makes awesome compositions of it. especially Exogenesis parts1-3. no other bands will do that because they wouldnt even think of doing anything like that. Symphonic Rock in all their albums.
@TheCyrix1 obviously you didn't read my comment at all.. I thought it sounded like the lyrics were changed to change the meaning of the song, but after listening closer I realize it is just hard to decipher Matt's voice
@LennyLemmings That was what i was asking.. Now I realize I wasn't listening close enough. Im going to remove my original comment now because it is wrong
Muse bring out themes in a song which i think is fantastic. Most bands couldnt do that at all. Coldplay's viva la vida is a great example they really brought the roman theme out in that song. Great talent!
@JustMerpMan Muse's song "Assassin", is a call to arms, to fight the evil powers that be. I have no idea how you could have interpreted it another way. Quote from Assassin: "War is not due, the time has come for you. To shoot this band down, Join forces underground".
@sylvain33290 Perhaps in another lifetime. That would be the collaboration to beat all collaborations....it would be as powerful as dividing by zero....
@TeamLegacyFTW it's the Nocturne In E-Flat Major, Op.9 No.2 by the (in my opinion) the most talented composer of all times, Chopin. Matt's version of it is the best I have ever heard.
In a pre-release interview featured in the August edition of music magazine Mojo, vocalist and guitarist Matthew Bellamy reveals the song to be inspired by "a book called The Grand Chessboard by Zbigniew Brzezinski," explaining that "Brzezinski has the viewpoint that the Eurasian landmass, ie Europe, Asia and the Middle East, needs to be controlled by America to secure the oil supply." from Wiki.
This song's an exhortation to european and asian people to reclaim their full independence.

@FoetusInYourNoodles just to point out the lyrics are actually:
"War is overdue,
