daaawww!!! I love it when animals try to "dig" in pillows and stuff. My cat does something like this too, only it's when she's trying to cover up her piss in the bathroom corner. She awkwardly scratches at the wall and looks at me like "derrrr???" when she fails to cover it up with non-existent dirt
LOL. Foxes, like squirrels, like to cache food for later. If I was an animal, I'd be a fox - trust me, I have more left overs in the fridge then I should. A Fennec Fox, in America, costs about 1500 bucks. They're legal and you don't need an exotic pet license.
@shannonsurreal Yeah. In America, they're legal in all states. They're not considered exotic, yet Red Foxes are... dunno why. But yeah, you don't need a license for these lil guys - but fennecs DO BURROW INTO EVERYTHING. Sofa cushions, carpets, etc. You've got to FENNEC PROOF your household!
@shannonsurreal LOL yeah. And if you're curious about why he's trying to conceal a snack... it's called "caching". He's trying to burry it the way a squirrel caches nuts. It's akin to having left overs for later. That's just.. you know... instinct.
@shannonsurreal Oh heck, I dunno. I'm sure you can find one for cheaper - then again, a German Sheppard with purebred papers... that's probably about the same amount of money. So really 1500 is not all that much in the pet world. Hell of a lot more than a bunny rabbit, though. You can always try and catch one... I DON'T suggest it though. I had a red fox kit born under my deck and the momma vixen never came home one day.. way different. Hard to raise but GREAT pet in the end. She lived 11 years
As far as I know, they are legal, but they may need a license. I do know for sure that they are legal in Japan, the United States, and Canada. I would suggest researching this first, because I am not 100% certain. I know little about British pet laws.
@FireSonicProdutions Yes but... Vulpine and Canine species are different. You can crossbreed a wolf and a dog but NOT a fox with another animal. It's because a fox has 11 chromosomes and the cats and dogs have a different number. So you can't have any dogfoxes or anything else for that matter. But no matter what, if you buy a fennec, you KNOW it's purebred, right? :D
They chase their tail like a dog and pounce like a cat. Foxes even use the litter box! Yet they'll fetch, too.
the 1st ever dog was the dawn dog, from the dawn dog came the wolf and fox, the toy dogs form today come from bouth fox and wolf, wolfs and foxes are the real pree breeds of dogs
The same way as every other breed of dog, by selective breeding for desired traits. When a puppy is born that has a characteristic that people like (in this case small size) the breeder takes that puppy and uses it as a breeding dog. They'll choose another dog that is closest to the desired trait of the first parent.
Usually at least one pup is born exhibiting the desired trait which is then often bred back to the parent that originated the trait. This is done until there's a diverse gene pool to create the new breed without further inbreeding. To make toy dogs, they just continuously choose the smallest pups of the litters as breeding stock and they get increasingly smaller as new pups are born.
Yes, they are all in the canidae family but foxes are an entirely different species. Taxonomy is constantly changing as more research is being done, but currently dogs are considered a subspecies of the gray wolf. Dog: Canis lupus familiaris. Gray wolf: Canis lupus. Fennec fox: Vulpes zerda.
If you don't believe me, I encourage you to research it for yourselves from reliable sources.
Malane is correct. Vulpes vulpes and Vulpes Zerda are different than dogs. Foxes have 11 chromosomes, dogs and cats have less and more than foxes. Foxes also have different hip structure (since they pounce things like a cat and squat differently when they dig/scratch litter / dirt like a cat, where dogs use 1 or 2 paws and stand differently to do so). Fox Dogs have been genetically engineered in Russia, etc. Cute and floppy-eared, lol
Who's to say what should be pets or not. Many societies think that dogs and cats should not be pets. The (communist) Chinese believed up until recently that owning ANY pet is "burgeoise". The Chinese think that EVERYTHING is burgeoise and also an aphrodisiac.
dude i dont use real life spelling this isnt school for u this is internet typing dumb shit head stop flaming other peopls videos dumb shit head so stfu and stop saying to spell this isnt school mmkay in rl i do better then u do in school i bet so piss off low life
In my honest opinion, it's fine for these animals to be pets, as long as they are taken care of by owners whose priorities are keeping the fox healthy and happy. Animals live alongside us in this world, but it doesn't mean they can't be happy in a household with human beings. In the case of fennecs who have been bred over generations to be comfortable in the presence of humans like this one, it certainly can't fend for itself in the wild, so as it was born it is better off with humans.
It's trying ot put its scent over the place where it hid its food, so that the food's smell is concealed. Usually in the desert, if an animal smells the hidden food, they'd take it, so by covering the food with its scent, the fennec's trying to make sure that no one takes its food.
Your answer sounds pretty good... but in reality, it has more to do with its instincts telling it to move its head like that when hiding something... if it were sand, it would bury it... but since its a pillow... well, it does nothing. The animal itself, however, doesn't understand the pointlessness, so it continues to follow its instincts and cover its food with invisible dirt/sand/etc.

Haha. That's a rare sight in my household - I can't remember the last time any of my dogs tried to bury food, even bones!
If my fat old dog Chutney finds something edible, she just uses BELLY OF THE WHALE and inhales it.

That is typical behavior of smaller canines, and while I do see some similarities, all dogs are descended from wolves, not foxes.
