  • Or, you know, go to ebay and buy 250 grams for £3. But whatever.

  • haha nice spoon

  • @SploogeForTheWin lololololol

  • Lol what kind of spoon is that hahaha :P

  • where do you buy cofee filters?

  • But, will it blend?

  • you asshole you wasted abt a minute just to stir the carbon filter. retard

  • should we purify it compulsarily?

    but a nice vid!

  • I bet doing this expirement is a real pain in the acetate.

  • the best chemical for purifying is isopropyl alcohol it will yield 85-90% sodium acetate crystals

  • you know wat, I'd rather buy it cause I don't know wtf your doing in this video

  • to me this looks like cum

  • do u need a specific type of vinegar or any will do?

  • is baking soda the same as flower?

  • Comment removed

  • it is nice mentioning the filipino's hahahaha i'm sure you've tasted our palm vinegar

  • If it was this easy to get sodium acetate, it woudn't cost 25-50$

  • halo lova!

  • halo lova!

  • Baking soda is soluble in water. You can't have a pure Sodium Acetate by adding baking soda to vinegar.

  • The music is beautiful. I would not recommend eating the sodium acetate, people. Just in case anybody is curious. It just doesn't seem like the kind of stuff that would be edible. :(

  • So, when I was younger, I made what I now know is sodium acetate without knowing that it was caustic. I brought it to school in one of those lucas bottles (a really sour powdered candy) and gave it to a kid. He ate it. He went to the nurse. I now understand why...

    Thanks NurdRage! :D

  • does this work to make hot ice???

  • this look very fishy

  • something bout that music that makes me wanna punch a cat in the face

and yea there are tons of ways to make that without going through all those purifications -.-

  • how can i make sodium acetate with another solution???

i want to me ice drug

  • will it work with purification tablets please answer

  • @quartz123ful

    Not that I know of.

  • Ok you really suck, there are MUCH more 1000000000 easier ways to do that :)

  • nice croker spoon hahha

  • To avoid having carbon to filter out of the sodium acetate, rinse the activated carbon in water before you use it for filtration.

  • if they can work without Filter carbon ???

  • i need to do purification?

    what happen if I dont?

  • @Ubisoft9611 Then you'll have brown sodium acetate when you're done ^_^ The carbon merely filters out contaminants which change the color and slow down crystallization, but in the end you can still get your 'hot ice'.

  • did

it turn to ice or sodium?

  • how much baking soda do i use??

  • haha love the improvising of recrystalization

  • do i have to purifie it?

  • @nicko2444 Yup, you can't do this experiment without purification.

  • @InfernalCoffee thnx:)

  • @InfernalCoffee No you don't. Watch NurdRage Video watch?v=21IcpkxgBVY That is what I did and I have sodium acetate right here. I took pics and uploaded to the internet. I just mixed measured baking soda and vinegar, boiled it down until i first saw a skin on top, poured it into a dish and stuck it in the freezer and now I have sodium acetate crystals. I ground some up into a powder, which took a LOT of work, those crystals are HARD!

  • Does this Stink?

    Nice vid.,btw

  • @shadowjaagup Yes, it kinda does. Tolerable, but still noticeable.

  • ur good

  • genious

  • this not really a complant but Its kind of hard to hear you because of the music

  • great vid. i really like how you were simplified the original method to eliminate extra steps such as buying special vinegar. the coffee filter and activated carbon is genius! great thinking and congrats on your science fair win. thanks for your help. i'm glad someone finally made a decent video that is achievable by the average american.

thanks for ur time and good luck with future ventures.

  • Thanks so much for the comment, really helped me out.

  • no problem. i'm always willing to help a good scientist with his work.

  • send a message to me to help me. please!!!

  • no matter what i do or what video i wathch i cant figure it out i wind up with hard white stuff that dosent do anything

  • Hard white stuff? Is it crystallized? If it is, add a bit of water to it in a small container, and double boil it to turn it into liquid form.

  • what is activatet filter carbon?

  • so what is the science behind this all? How can this be useful in everyday life?

  • @silverpizza100 First off everything is science secound it is used in hand warmers

  • could you explain why you use carbon to purify it?

  • @mV33rs because carbon atoms join onto the impurities.

  • I do not want to be overcritical, but it would not kill You if You were talking louder ;)

  • This was a great video. Very interesting, but It was very hard to hear what you were saying. I really had to concentrate to hear you thru the music. :)

  • whats up with the elevator music

  • how much % vineger do you use?

  • @guicherit

Eh, it's 100% distilled vinegar, though I used palm vinegar.

  • @InfernalCoffee

dude, normal store bought vinegar is only 5%!

You need to look on online labrotory stoes to get 90% acetic acid (vinegar) and up.

  • I don't know how old you are but you sound really smart thank you, this is exatcly what i was looking for, i'm gona try it tomarrow.

  • that is a lot of work

  • to long but cool but you can do it faster i found out

  • ummm do we got to put it on a stone?

    reply and speak up

  • Very constructive. You took the mystery out of chemistry.

  • hey can use that red vinugar

  • terrible

  • fucking annoying music. i cant hear half of what you say -.-

  • @lmaoogogetalife that's the whole point.... O___o

  • You got a VERY high purity for homemade; Good Job !

  • the music sucks

  • can we do it without using the carbon filter?

  • me and my brother tried to make sodium acetate, but it didn't turn out right... its something we did wrong, but we're not sure what we did wrong, lol.

  • Wanna explain in depth?

  • well, we added the baking soda and vinegar, boiled and boiled it down until it turned yellow. It crystalizes, but it's still soft.

  • It's a good sign that it's crystallizing. What do you mean by "soft" though? As in the result is squishy and just a bunch of wet flakes? If so, boil down the solution more.

  • yeah, like wet flakes, couldn't figure out how to describe it. You could see it crystalize, but when we squeeze the mass, it feels kind of spongy, i guess we'll try it again tomorrow.

  • your camera is broken.

  • you shouldnt have added the music

  • i don have baking soda what about baking powder

  • no you can't use baking powder

  • whats the difference??

  • there totally diffrent and it won't work

  • Baking powder used for baking

  • In Norway, baking soda is used for baking too -.-

  • Same in Guyana too, But u see Baking powder wouldnt have the Chemical Reaction wiith the vinegar It might act like flour and doesnt give any solution

  • are you norwegian?

  • what the fuck? norwegian?

  • quote "DO NOT EAT IT, PLEASE "i ate it :D and now i don't feel good lol jks jks jks im not dumb

  • cool video just please remove the music.... its disturbing.. and its hard to hear wth ur saying =)

  • awsome

  • From description: "It is an acetic acid with sodium bicarbonate mixture"

No, it isn't. Its CH3COONa, containing the acetate (ethanoate) anion - CH3COO-; and the sodium cation - Na+. Its not a mixture, its a salt.

  • what the hell is this supposed to prove. you are a faggot

  • that music is SOOO disturbing

  • u eed a magna mix m8

  • it needs to be white vinegar and also the filter carbon is optional but the sodium acetate may not work without it because the product without the filter carbon is impure so the filter carbon will make it pure enough for hot ice to work

  • does it matter wat kind of vinear

  • nice video!

  • do we really need it??..(filter carbon)

  • yeah you need it...

  • is the filter carbon optional??

  • LMFAO!!!! This video iz soooo edgemacational!!!!!!

  • dude it it doesnt work!

    please help me

  • Are you sure? Check that your ingredients are okay. If they are, try boiling down the solution longer. If you need any more help, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • ++fuck you all american we filipino's are smart shit!!!!!!!!!

++this is bigTIme representing The pinoY PrIdE++

  • Yea definitly, you people eat dogs

  • That black stuff is activated filter carbon. It can be bought at Petco in the fish section. It is necessary to remove the impurities in the solution.

  • Cool! but whats the black thing you put down? do i need that?

  • wow terrence! lol ur voice sounds funny in the vid and the musik is kinda distracting lol and ur using lots of SMART WORDZZ!! lol cool vid though

  • hahaha fucking funny philipino pot hahaha

  • LOL. i see filipino pot & vinegar :p

    nice job!!!
