@XLordSundayX Hyrule isn't played because of its size. That is all. Large stages drag out 1v1 games way too long for tournaments to be run in a timely manner. They do thinks like that in other fighting games, too.

If we had the timer set at 4, every match with a naturally campy character (R.O.B., Samus, Wario, Pit, Sonic, etc...) and probably a few matches without those characters would run to time.
@XLordSundayX No, I was saying that bigger stages draw games out longer because there is so much room to move around (and you said it, too.) The time limit may be 8 minutes but they don't WANT every game to run to 8 minutes, so they play on stages where you can't just run away all the time.
I would like to say simply this. It's okay to play who you want to when you're just chilling and having fun or whatever, hell it's fine to do that in tournament if you want to and are good enough with the character. However, it will be that much harder for you when you decide you wish to win against high and top tier characters. Play who you want to, make the best of it, but don't be surprised when you feel like you're working much harder to do the same things higher tiers do with less effort.

Exploiting cheats and glitches is not skill. AT ALL. It's manipulating the odds in one's favour, and it's hypocritical since these same people go on about stages and items as if they're biased against that particular player. And tiers are not meant to be a "NEVER PLAY AS THIS CHARACTER! SO-AND-SO ONLY!" guide like the tourneyfags think, tiers are meant to be a guide to who plays best against who. things like wavedashing, JC grabbing (l canceling is not an exploit as it was delibertly programed into the game to be the way it is), they all take time and practice and master and the user is always in control
And I notice you can't wavedash or L cancel in Brawl. Is that perhaps why all the whiny tourney players hate it so much and insist that Melee is better? I have a feeling the answer is yes.

Okay, maybe it makes sense to ban stages like New Pork City and Hyrule Temple for being so huge, and the scrolling stages for obvious reasons, but banning all but like 5 stages because they're not perfectly flat and obstacle-free is petty and childish. In fact, those stages are a greater test of skill. Honestly, what's more impressive? Surviving on a stage like Port Town Aero Dive or Norfair, or surviving on the blessed Final Destination?
brawl is a good party game but a bad fighting game, but that is a different subject that i dont feel like going in depth about >.>
also survivng stages is easy, anyone with half a mind not to jump off the ledge can survive on any stage with any charater. stage control is very key in competative smash and i matters more than surviving the stage, i wont give an in depth explaniation as to why each stage is banned but its usally because charaters can camp and control a small part of a stage
I have a theory that the people satired in this video don't actually exist. I've never met ANYONE who told me not to use Ganondorf or Jigglypuff (two of my favorites) because they're "bottom tier." When people use shitty characters against me, I'm all the happier because it means I'm more likely to win.
Also, note that Smash is the only fighting game where players deny the existence of tiers. That in itself should tell you something, but I guess stubbornness always wins out in the end, eh?
I can understand why people do not like tiers but how can you argue that they do not exist? While it's true that according to professional smash players, which is where the tier list comes from, characters are ranked and verified on how well the pros perform in tournaments. To non-professional smash players, the tier list does not really apply b/c their skill level isnt high enough. But someone please comment and argue how the current tier lists are not true.
@J4edong I won't argue, tiers are mostly about what's happing right now in the competitive metagame and do always change so its not true since some characters will rise, fall, or stay in their spot once players develop new tactics, skills, and place better in tournaments.
Tiers are going to exist as long as tournaments exist. There's nothing anybody can do about it either because its the people choose to rank characters base on opinions. To sum it up just play who you want to and how you want to.

1. Some are, yes. Some people are idiots. However, you CANNOT seriously believe that a stage like Temple is banned because people are "bad" on it. It's banned because it takes no skill to win on it.
2. Items are banned because they are completely luck-based. Is Player 'A' idiotic if the item spawns right next to Player 'B' and 'A' can't reach it in time?

@XLordSundayX Hyrule isn't played because of its size. That is all. Large stages drag out 1v1 games way too long for tournaments to be run in a timely manner. They do thinks like that in other fighting games, too.

It's banned because the faster character will always win on it, because they can simply get a percentage lead and run away for the rest of the match.

If we had the timer set at 4, every match with a naturally campy character (R.O.B., Samus, Wario, Pit, Sonic, etc...) and probably a few matches without those characters would run to time.

@XLordSundayX No, I was saying that bigger stages draw games out longer because there is so much room to move around (and you said it, too.) The time limit may be 8 minutes but they don't WANT every game to run to 8 minutes, so they play on stages where you can't just run away all the time.

I would like to say simply this. It's okay to play who you want to when you're just chilling and having fun or whatever, hell it's fine to do that in tournament if you want to and are good enough with the character. However, it will be that much harder for you when you decide you wish to win against high and top tier characters. Play who you want to, make the best of it, but don't be surprised when you feel like you're working much harder to do the same things higher tiers do with less effort.

I agree on the fact that i hate when people complain that i'm olimar, lucas, jigglypuff ETC. on brawl (because they're not usualy very high in the tier list), but i have to confess that i am sometimes a bitch about tiers, but only to those who only main god and high tier character - like when someone walks in and abuses pit, metaknight, sonic ETC. - Generally only when it's unfair to everybody else.

Exploiting cheats and glitches is not skill. AT ALL. It's manipulating the odds in one's favour, and it's hypocritical since these same people go on about stages and items as if they're biased against that particular player. And tiers are not meant to be a "NEVER PLAY AS THIS CHARACTER! SO-AND-SO ONLY!" guide like the tourneyfags think, tiers are meant to be a guide to who plays best against who. Also, tourneyfags don't believe in fun, only winning. They think SSB is serious business.

Okay, maybe it makes sense to ban stages like New Pork City and Hyrule Temple for being so huge, and the scrolling stages for obvious reasons, but banning all but like 5 stages because they're not perfectly flat and obstacle-free is petty and childish. In fact, those stages are a greater test of skill. Honestly, what's more impressive? Surviving on a stage like Port Town Aero Dive or Norfair, or surviving on the blessed Final Destination?

brawl is a good party game but a bad fighting game, but that is a different subject that i dont feel like going in depth about >.>
also survivng stages is easy, anyone with half a mind not to jump off the ledge can survive on any stage with any charater. stage control is very key in competative smash and i matters more than surviving the stage, i wont give an in depth explaniation as to why each stage is banned but its usally because charaters can camp and control a small part of a stage

I have a theory that the people satired in this video don't actually exist. I've never met ANYONE who told me not to use Ganondorf or Jigglypuff (two of my favorites) because they're "bottom tier." When people use shitty characters against me, I'm all the happier because it means I'm more likely to win.
Also, note that Smash is the only fighting game where players deny the existence of tiers. That in itself should tell you something, but I guess stubbornness always wins out in the end, eh?

I can understand why people do not like tiers but how can you argue that they do not exist? While it's true that according to professional smash players, which is where the tier list comes from, characters are ranked and verified on how well the pros perform in tournaments. To non-professional smash players, the tier list does not really apply b/c their skill level isnt high enough. But someone please comment and argue how the current tier lists are not true.

Tiers are going to exist as long as tournaments exist. There's nothing anybody can do about it either because its the people choose to rank characters base on opinions. To sum it up just play who you want to and how you want to.
