at 1st Billy looks so damn weak, but as you unlock his techniques, this would be your 2nd most fave character in the game (aside from Sword wielding Citan Uzuki)

@omegablast There is a sidequest involved. You go to a lighthouse NE of tower of babel and simply go through it.

Not being overly feminist or anything, but man is it cool when at least one of the girls in the group of heroes is as cool and badass as (or even more than) the other heroes, and Emeralda does that while being an adorable little kid (with a pretty cool gear, to boot).

THEN you learn you can turn her into an adult with that hidden side-quest, turning her into a hottie and making her attacks TWICE as badass!

Yeah... Too bad the game is more macho than feminist when it comes to the actual story. Some girls have the potential to shine... but some strange force won't let them (for example, Yui... this woman was maybe even more badass/kickass than her husband... and she spent the entire game into da kitchen... *growls*... and then Elly... who was trained in the army... once she met Fei, she let the damsel in distress replace the soldier... I mean WHAT !?).

you have to reach a certain level for each to reveal them on the list and then master it by fighting, once the mastery meter of a deathblow reaches 100 the user will learn it, however, you automaticaly learn the first dathblow by level.

Oh yeah. I listened to Emeralda's attacking yell, and it's so annoying! I think the US version of Xenogears got its voice actings dubbed (proven since the intro).

I was wondering how are their voices in JP version.

actually I admire Emeralda's voice. I mean, wow, it's so sharp.. it sounds like a chainsaw. japanese voice actresses surely give a lot of emotions in their acting. I just can't do that. and if I try I'll probably damage my vocal cord. :D

btw, the US version only dubbed the voices in FMV. the battle voices are still japanese.

Really? I've played the JP version of Xenogears, and Emeralda's voice (and all characters) is a bit different. For example, Fei's yell when attacking. In US ver, you'll hear "URYAA". But in JP ver, it's "ORYAA", and looks a bit more emotional.

So, all voices in US ver are completely DUBBED in English.

haven't played the JP version. but in the US version, their battle yells don't seem English. For example, you hear Fei yell "Sore" w/c is Japanese for "This!" the way they yell are very typical of Japanese too. And their voices in the battles and cutscenes are very different.

Perhaps, you're right that it was completely dubbed. But I'm thinking that the battles were probably just re-dubbed by different actors, some may be Japanese. I still have to see it though.

Let me get this straight. Look at 1:25. When Billy starts his "Banfrau", he just yells "hoop" when he threw his rifle. But in JP ver, he actually yells "sore". And in 1:30, it seems Billy yells "here" or "yeah", I could barely hear. But in JP ver, he yells "Atare".

Billy's "Holy Gate" was called "Heaven's Gate" in JP ver.

And, I noticed in 3:35 that Emeralda only spins ONCE. In JP ver, she spins TWICE.

Emeraldas... powerful loli is powerful and even more so when she becomes an adult! o.o Renmazuo and Crescens were cool gears too. I wonder if showing us the Gears' Deathblows and Inifinity DBs will be a challenge for ya. ;P

Licensing problems with SE, Then known as square. Square owns the rights to Xenogears、atleast when it comes to the story and much of its contence. Hence they had to change almost everything including the story. They were however able to keep alot of the character names and likenesses hence why we see them in Xenosaga. However both stories are unrelated as of Square saying 'Screw you'

well if u think about it that what square enix says about most there games take ff7 for exzample alot of people want the remake just like chrono trigger in 3d which id definitlt by that prject got cancled beacuse of square basicaly saying screw you so yeh u make a good piont:) thank btw i was curious

Speaking of Square being greedy, I've actually been rather disappointed with their recent FF games. Then again I grew up with all the great pre FF7 games so maybe I'm biased. The Japanese steam punk switch they've made is just.....it just kills the whole magic the Final Fantasy series had. Not to say I won't play the new ones of course out of fanboyism, but I still go back to the oldies every once in awhile.

Id have to agree with u on that,theyve made it too high tech.and constant changes to the fighting system which pisses me off too,I dont like turn based so i dont mind the move away from that,but at least keep to the one that works,Xenogears is an excellent example.

So you want the same battle system like 5 games in a row? I admire SE trying new battle systems and changing it or upgrading it every now and then. The old ATB was great but after like, the 4th time I was sick of it.

Because when games are too similar then they're not fun? After overuse of something good, I get sick of it. ATB was great and I wouldn't now after Square had tried some variations, but sharing gameplay is not the way to go.

If games were not fun if they were to similar one would think that there wouldn't be as many FP/TPSs as there are..
