Just great to hear this again after so long- my brother had a load of 45s out of a juke box- you had to put the centre back in to play em, this was our favourite- Long live the blues!!
WOW - NEVER KNEW THIS WAS RECORDED IN TREE DAYS. ARE YOU POSITIVE? I COULD HAVE SWORN THIS WAS RECORDED BEFORE TREES INHABITED THE EARTH. ANYWAY I HEAR CANNED HEAT AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS TUNE. DID THE HEAT RIP MAYALL OFF WITH "ON THE ROAD AGAIN" ?
Thanks for the upload, ced! I have this song on vinyl "The last of the British blues", but had never heard this version. I believe I like this version better. Bookmarked.
renrobot.blogspot.com/2011/04/canned-heat-house.html This is a link to photos of the Bear's house how it is now. There were a few landslides that wrecked it.Does anyone know if the house in the video is the Bear's house? The wonderful Alan Wilson was found dead behind the house. RIP Blind Owl
Correct. Bob Hite of Canned Heat was a traditional blues freak with many tens of thousands of old 78s. Nice of Mayall to do a great tune for him. The Laurel Canyon album was one of my wise buys back then. I haven't regretted it since. Keep the blues alive, attend a concert or three, better still, come to one of the Fests, like Chicago. See you there.
Who remembers listening to this while wagging school, and going surfing as a teenage kid? I certainly do ! and apparently this bloke is as old as my dad, and was a Korean War Vet to boot... how cool this music is..
Bob The Bear Hite, founder of Canned Heat, had a house in Topanga Canyon that was literally full of blues: -Filled- w/ one of, (if not -the-), the largest blues record collections, every wall, from floor to ceiling. (Together w/ Heat members A.Wilson, H.Vestine, & brother Richard, definitely the largest.) Whenever possible, Bob spent his days & nights playing those records, telling stories about the ones he knew, sometimes even finding one he hadn't heard himself within his huge library.
@latenightpilgrim goin back through the years. hear any record you choose. damn right that's cool. must have been a trip, smokin, drinkin wine and listening to grooves with canned heat.
Mick, I love you. You're a hero and I will remain forever grateful for the glorious guitar playing you have given the world. Your playing on this album is beautiful.
I can remember listening to this at our flat in Bardon, Brisbane back in 1971. (at 19 years old). My God it brings back memeories. (This is my son's log in)
@Julimondschein Have been looking for "First Time Alone" for years now..still can't find it...has anybody out there got it..cos someone nicked my "Blues from Laurel Canyon" album in 1971 and I'm still waiting for the bastard to return it..no such luck !

It was 1969. I rode a tandem with my buddy Jon. I was 15 years old & just left school. This song is the soundtrack of that year for me.

Best Mayall album after the "Eric Clapton" one where Clapton played his best electric guitar EVER, to this day.

I, being one of the biggest Clapton fans alive, like this album better - this track is nuts!
