i remember watching the likes of bill degen and doug singer flying these same dunes back in 79-80. pretty sure dougs retired. bill will probably be flying till hes 90.
All dune crashes? You damaged or just the glider? Where'd you get the Fun? Who are you training with? I tried to go dune soaring the other day but my trainer advised against it.High flight off Port Hills is easier apparently! Name's Owen btw
All dune crashes and somehow I managed to walk from all of them. My mate has the Fun and said if you can fly the dunes you can fly anything. The wisdom of this is questionable - you learn quick but it's risky, especially when it's gusty.
Hi good to see a hang glider flying the dunes at brighton. I used to live in new brighton 45years ago. Before hang gliders came along. i now live in the uk flying hang gliders here. But wish i was back there.cheers
It's an Airborne Fun 190. At 90kg I need a pretty stiff breeze - I'd say it was 18-20 knots. As for picking it up naturally, I've crashed 3 times and put my mate's previous glider over the back of the dunes. I'm lucky to be alive!
lol... i know the feeling. But dunes are THE place to learn. developing good control close to the ground is invaluable. You re not too heavy for the fun 190.... just about right i d say.

That's great to watch. I'm learning in CHCH too. Have you done a high off of the Port Hills yet?
obooth 4 years ago
Not yet. After 3 crashes into the dunes I've got some insurance issues to work through first.

Have you ever tried to get stiff breeze through customs and excise? Also, I hear the lift off the Corning Tower is reasonable.

Hey Albany(jwm239) you need to come to New Brunswick Canada to soar with us!

Thanks! Does it show that I've had a grand total of 20 minutes flying experience?
