This isn't necessarily my favorite of Dylan's numerous renditions of this song, but it's amazing how well he's able to make his shot voice convey the song's emotional intensity, and how well he is able to do this without trying to replicate the ways he sang this thirty-five-plus years ago.
Bob should retire---or get throat surgery---his voice is extremely hard to take on the ears!!!! I love this guy---but c'mon, be realistic, his voice is gone and he sounds like he's struggling really bad.
I've never cared for his voice, all the way from "Like A Rolling Stone" (good lyrics, but his delivery is...a taste I haven't acquired. Sounds like he's almost completely lost his voice at this point, so sad :(
Diabolical GENIUS. And yes, you are always hearing it for the first time as he is always singing it for the first time. Dylan is attuned to IT. And maybe you're not.
anyway, I did not mean to offend anybody..and I am sorry that I may have offended you in any way.
he is a song and dance man LOL and seems to be having a good time up there with his extremely talented hand picked crop of musicians. we enjoyed seeing him just the same..albeit a strange experience on some levels-something quite surreal about the whole thing kind of "unusual"in an unexplainable with words way!!!
yes..I agree some of his songs are very good to excellent, I have not heard all of his songs, but I never said all of his songs were great..there were some albums I though dross to be honest and didn't buy those ones. I suppose it is a bit like a farmer who plants seeds, some blossom into good sturdy crops that nourish and don't not harm the soil, almost a craft of love, other plantings are almost done mechanically in a mundane fashion perhaps because that person has to make a living..hmm !!!
You are watching a master craftsman at work, it's not about the sound, it's about the moment, he's trying to express it, some will get it, some won't. Like watching Picasso paint in real time...'Hey! my kid could do better than that!'
Blood on the tracks is such a mellow album...Im sorrry to hear of how a heartbreaking period in Bobs personal life this was.....if any of my words could comfort him....his past women made mistakes to let him go.....he deserves the best of love...look what he has given us...all that work......have fun touring is my advice..and at home? I wish I was there...where ever
Oh so he is not singing how people want him to....he is not our puppet perception of how we expect or want him to be..he is offering us a chance to see him for heaven's sake..it may be the last chance we ever have..he so deserves some love and joy sent his way, not all this negative crap..he has sacrificed his life behind doors mostly and is now obviously enjoying playing and being on stage..he is moving into another way of being though this touring and needs support not sniping. enough said!
@magnifikatone According to what you say, every single thing that Zimmerman churns out is automatically brilliant just because it has his name on it. This is, to put it mildly, complete and utter bullshit.
@magnifikatone How on earth can anyone say Dylan's "sacrificed his life behind closed doors mostly"? His "Never Ending Tour" has been going on for about thirty years. Except for the eight-year break he took following his motorcycle accident in 1966, he's been performing his entire adult life. I think he's by far the greatest and most indispensable singer-songwriter ever, but over the past twenty years he's done way to many concerts in which he made no effort to to do his songs justice.
The greatest songwriter who ever lived, The greatest rock songs of all time- Like a Rolling Stone, the line-by-line brilliance of it's Alright, Ma. But his voice is rapidly disintegrating. For me, a lifelong Dylan fan/fanatic, this and other recent videos are breaking my heart. To those who think his voice is "great," listen to his early albums. Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde. Hell, most of them. Oh, God, this is so sad....
@auramac how can you be a dylan fanatic if all you sem to care about is his voice. His voice was never the reason to love his music. It has clearly changed over the years, but dylan is still Dylan and it's still better than anything else in music past, present and probably future. ive seen him 17 times and when he comes back to texas it'll be 18 times.
Damn, this is awful. Apparently, he alters the song structure to fit his non-existent voice. These boomer icons can get away with just about anything thanks to Rolling Stone mag. Anyone else would have been booed off stage before they got a chance to finish the tune
@ritter89 - can't you hear the audio breaking up with every drum beat - barbnose's ego got the better of them - should never have uploaded this crap - and feed an ignoramuses idea of the truth - shine on you dumbass
I saw him in Bethel New York in August.... When he played this song .... my eyes teared up without any conscious hints. It blew my mind.... Bob is the best! Tangled up in blue...
Maaan, it took me the whole first verse to recognize the song and even then it sounded nothing like I remember. That's the magic in Dylan: everytime you listen to him, you have to rediscover the song he's doing.
10 dislikes...why man? the man is the greatest poet, singer, guitarist and harmonica player I've heard..he's just amazing
