Well, in Japan, I think there's a belief that lesbians are reborn, or something like that, so after Kouya & Yamato are defeated by Soubi & Ritsuka, they go to the graveyard. One of them asks the other, "Will you die with me?" & then they leave their life with Professor Nagisa behind. I'm not exactly sure what that meant, though, haha.

you're right. There was a ton of lesbian suicides in the past because it was believed that if two lesbian lovers committed suicide then they'd be reborn into the same body as a child. So they probably committed a double suicide to achieve eternal connection to eachother.
