  • i worked for ian anderson !! during this period !! 1982 as a tea boy at maision rouge in fulham !!! good times ! even if anderson named me the suculent pig !! LOL

the whole band were real gents !!! and superb musicians !!!

  • anyone knows the name of this song?

    take care all

  • Pussy Willow from Broadsword and the Beast (1982)...Gerry Conway was the original drumer

  • Great stuff ! Thanks for posting it and for the info !

    All the best!

  • pussy willow and in this video phil collins is playin drums with tull. i guess tulls drummer was sick or something if im wrong please correct me anyone

  • he died but phill colins is a good drumer

  • this song is the reason for which I am in love with England indefinitely

  • Folk/Rock/Celtic/........

  • semplicemente fantastici un mito

  • Ian Anderson is such a character!!!

  • Never knew about this collaboration! This is great. Was there anyone who Phil DIDN'T colloborate with in the early 80's?!

  • So far he played with most famous singers. He enjoyed playing, he keeps reminding everyone that he is a drummer after all. The guys he played so far will not complain he he he, having an expensive drummer with you is always entertaining, the music sounds different.....

  • Wicked awesome and amazing. What a great find. Thanks!

  • phil collins and jethro FTW

  • Oh, right 4/4 beats over 3/4.. didn't realize that :)

But actually it is not Collins drums impro, if you listen to the record it is exactly that way, performed by Gerry Conway (not sure if creation came from him or Barriemore?) Anyway drum monsters all.

  • Its actually more a matter of it being 6/4 time which means you can divide it either into 3 groups of 2, or 2 groups of 3 without altering the music being played above the beat...

  • nope 4/4 over 3/4 is not accurate here...collins is simply toying with the emphasized beats, if you must put it more simply. He's a master at synchopation.

by far one of the best drummers ever...and was a revelation to hear him w/ till here. wow. what a lineup. (and also kate bush. karn and ure on this show??? omg!!!)

  • More simply put, Phil is playing a 4/4 over the 3/4 played by the band. No biggie. Great to see them all together.

  • pocketshield,i think youre taking the piss..surely? If not,get a life mate!!

  • Beautiful, to my love, I know a "song of life"!

  • poss the first tull song i ever heard in early 80s,

    loved 'em since x

  • Interesting on this song the drum work (by Barriemore Barlow, performed by Phil in this concert) The song is 3/4 but you can note how they play and alternate the snare drum beats. There are riffs of /1-2-snare/ (1:54) and other riffs of /1-snare-3/snare-2-snare/ (2:46)...very rare snare beats for a 1-2-3 rhythm(not a drummer but drummers may get the idea, as typical rock is simply /1-snare-3-snare/). This is what I love from Tull, each song is a piece of art full of curious and complex stuff.

  • uhh ok

  • This was not by Barrie's original drum work, Gerry Conway performed the drums on that record

  • ian has to be one of the most talented musicians of the 20th century...he doesnt get enough credit for being both a great flautist, guitar player, mandolin player.

  • Phil looks so Miama Vice and Ian is so Minstrelish. LOL

  • Its me or Ian Anderson sing with a sm57 ?

    instrument microphone...

    Great band!

  • Song is Pussy Willow

  • What song is this?

  • wow

    how did i miss this?

    very medeival x

    beautiful sound.

  • Great acsents across the top end of the plates tone of drums (not high enough for me )

But Phil Was Playing this gig Chosen by Ian

    Thats enough for me

Arfter ;-)all we are talkin about Tull

41 years and still doin 100 round scots corner

Love it untill they put me in my box

    Martin Porter

  • if you said zeppelin, sabath, aerosmith, uriah heap, but jethro tull sounds and look like king arthurs minstrels on acid, phil collins is one of the most talented musicians of all time i reckon! and yes most of todays rock-heavy sucks rhinoceros balls!!!

  • Collins is an often under-appreciated drummer (listen to Brand X sometime), but the coolest fact (or coincidence) here is that Phil and Ian are both left handed drummers, which is a rarity.

  • Collins' drumming was also great on the early Genesis stuff.

  • Great Song from a great Band. But Mr. Collins isn`t a verry good drummer for this stuff.

  • Collins.. a grate drummer!! Just a shame that Genesis did part ways with Peter Gabriel..

    Tull... grate band!!!

  • progresiveatic, thanks for posting this awesome video!

  • great song !

  • Great artists, yeah!

  • Nice! Two fine artists: Ian and Phil. I saw Genesis last year and phil did his usual dual drumming with Chester Thompson. It's nice to see him behind the kit here, he's a great drummer.

  • Ian Andersons a bard!

  • I totally agree.

  • Tull, Ian Anderson and Phil Collins, this is really good stuff. Power punching great, made looking easy by great artists!

  • Ian Anderson's Jethro Tull and Phil Collins, awesome performance!

  • The former comment is a reply to cloudbuster 66

  • hahahaha this is very cool

  • Phil's appearance makes this footage look from 1981 or '82. Genesis may had been on the "Three Sides Live" tour, and may had been playing a concert a day or two before or after Tull.

  • what year was this?

  • never knew that collins actually gigged with tull !

  • to true i love the 60 and 70s rock,so do my kids i just cant get on with todays music i may be a music snob but i like what i like

  • You're dead right

  • You're right. In my opinion mid to late '70s is when most of rock's greatest songs were written and performed with "real" musicians. Most of today's "studio-heavy" music just doesn't cut it for me...

  • May life lift you into goodness of His Love and be bless knowing peace in your heart without parting from it.

    DiLinda

  • My favourite band. Listen to my "Wondrin´aloud" version.

  • I love Jethro Tull, and Phil collins!!! Awesome!

  • what's the name of the songs? good one btw

  • Pussy Willows

  • MASTERPIECE

  • And a Mr Dave Pegg on Bass!

  • i'm going down memory lane on this 70's and 80's buzz. i miss my uncle we used to listen to these songs. he made the same voice as him. he was so cool. god rest his soul. miss you loads.. uncle martin

  • Excellent! A real find. Makes me realize how bad MTV really was when we were given repetitve drivel instead of this.

  • It's just a shame nothing has changed, MTV is still churning out drivelly, warbling pop sh*t today, just now they churn out exploitative hip-hop rubbish too :-(

  • non sens musics, easy money... with cheap "music"

  • All I can say is resist the rising tide of conformity. Rise above the musical muck-spreaders!

  • not hard to resist to music without rock or sound really bad, like celine dion, 50 cent, hillary duff :S or cradle of filth :P

seriously theres some stupid thing that i dont understand like the new song touch my body! you dont have to make more stupid than zztop songs if you cant have good music to back it. they must consult someone intelligent before recording some cd.

  • Very rare & Nice...

  • no c que estoy sintiendo.. mi padre que en paz descanse las escuchava quando era bebe

  • sorry I gave you thumbs down for mistake; I wanted to give thumbs up.

  • Isn't it amazing how Phil Collins just happened to be EVERYWHERE in the 1980's. Amazing performance with Jethro Tull with Phil on drums.

  • Fantastic!
