I have a problem with the SD copy program. I'm getting the 16:9 aspect ratio in my videos (I use a Panasonic SDR-H40P), but I hear no sound coming from the videos. Did I do something wrong?
@iamthebomb17 Panasonic camcorders give you a choice of either MPEG or Dolby AC3 audio. You should set it to Dolby AC3 because I know that works fine with SDcopy. I haven't tested using my Panasonic SDR-S50 with the audio in MPEG mode, so I don't know if that causes any problems with SDcopy.
i have panasonic sdr s26 i use sd copy and i upload some video on youtube but quality when i watch it on my pc is pretty good but when i upload to youtube quality is worst i ever see. help me. /watch?v=n2JopDraifs
@stefy747 For the best results, record your videos using XP mode, which is the highest quality. The files will be larger but you will get better quality when uploaded to YouTube.
can I use videoredo with my samsung smx f40 camcorder? cause the video aspect ratio never comes out correct and...well...yeah...I can't edit videos like that.
@JITOCANC SDcopy is not needed in your case, because Sony camcorders already store the videos as standard MPEG2 files with the correct aspect ratio set.
@C77stock I don't use Windows 7 (or Vista) so I can't tell you for sure. You can try using the MOD files directly, and then if that doesn't work, use SDcopy.
@vwest7ife .MOD is fine w/ windows 7, but the transitions are not as smooth as on the videoredosuite...I could see at least a .6 second pause. between clips. in movie maker.
The .MOD files these cameras produce is 100% DVD-Video compliant (MP@ML MPEG2 Video with AC3 Audio within DVD-Video bitrate limits) so dumping to DVD involves no re-encoding.
For editing/joining clips I use Womble MPEG-VCR. Its only limitation is that it can't render AC3 audio, but its perfectly fine for simple cut editing and only $20.
I did everything you did and it changed the file name and everything then i go to windows movie maker tho find the new file and it doesn't pop up where i saved it . HELP ME PLEASE!
@tcsk8er13 Look for the MOD files. They may be in a different folder on the drive. MOI files contain only information about the video, such as the time and date they were recorded. The actual video recording is in the MOD files.
@SwagFB Use iMovie to import the videos directly from the camcorder, and it will work. Don't copy the MOD files manually and then try to import them later; that may cause problems.
Hey, very helpful videos thanks a lot. Ive got a fs200 and have looked everywhere for the SD copy download as it seems your link is broken. Any idea where i can this download?
Hey im thinking of getting a Digital Camera not a camcorder a Digital Camera yh well when i get it if i wanted to uplod a video from it to my computer then to youtube will this SD programme work im running on Windows XP will it work or is there another way i dont have a SD card slot on my computer or a External SD one what plugs in ASAP
@bluedog916 No, SDcopy is only for camcorders which save video files in the MOD format.
If your digital camera saves video files in MJPEG format, it will work fine with Windows Movie Maker in XP. The camera can be connected to your computer using a USB cable, so do you don't need a separate SD card reader.
@bakonfreek VideoReDo can charge a higher price because the program has a specific purpose (edit without re-encoding) which virtually no other program can do. The other video editing programs without this feature have much higher competition between them since there are so many out there, so they need to offer a low starting price to get you to try them.
I Have The EXACT Same Canon Camcorder, Just In Red. I Did EXACTLY What You Did, And The Movie Footage Came Out As AUDIO In Windows Movie Maker.... I Keep Getting This Problem.... :( I HATE Windows Movie Maker, And Canon -.-
@TheProdigysWarrior Windows Movie Maker is erratic when editing MPEG2 video files. Even with all the correct codecs installed, it only works sometimes, and most of the time only the audio is recognized. I recommend using a better program for editing your videos. YouTube also has a new feature where you can edit your videos after you upload them, but I haven't tried it yet.
@vwest7ife I Guess Movie Maker Is Just So OLD It Needs A Kick In The System To Be Able To Do The Things We Need It To Do. Im Gonna Go And Use The YouTube Editing Thing Now, What Have I Got To Lose?

@parrishstuckey1 With these cameras that usually means you need to install the AC3 Dolby Digital audio codec. If your computer came with software for playing DVDs, try installing or reinstalling it, because DVDs also use the AC3 audio codec.

@LeVo1900 The PV-GS32 is a MiniDV tape camcorder. In case I didn't make it clear enough in the video, this method only works with flash memory (SD card) and hard drive camcorders.
@mrxxcodgodxx You still aren't giving me any information to work with. I suggest you go to videohelp . com and explain your problem there *in detail*, so people can help you.
Hey vest7ife!! Thank you so much for you video and your help about fs200. As a newbie I had no idea how to deal with that things and now I can work efficiently with my camera on my (old) laptop. Thanks a lot!! I'm happy about you guys who makes the effort to help other people with new things and that even for free!!
@techstyle123 Unfortunately there is no such thing. Any flash memory or hard drive camcorder will create a new file whenever you stop recording and then start again. Only tape based camcorders offer a true "pause" feature.
i'v been trying to use my hp v504u digital camcorder to get videos on windows movie maker, but every time i go to capture from video device it says it cant find anything even though my camera is plugged in, and i cant get videos saved on my cp either, all it lets me do is upload them drectly to utube and u can only use a single strait video, thats y i want movie maker 2 put multiple clips on 1 video and make them funner 2 watch please help this is so confusing!!!
Movie Maker will probably not recognize your camcorder as a capture device; it was really designed to work with tape camcorders. I suggest you try other video editing software, such as Sony Vegas.
@vwest7ife ok. i am using windows vista home premium as of now, hopefully i will be getting a new laptop with windows 7. could i convert the MPEG-2 to like MPG or AVI would that work?
@xctome I've been able to get MPEG2 videos to work in WMM by installing the "K-Lite MPEG Pack". Just search for that name and you should find a link to download it.
This is a very good and informational video. I do appreciate the time you took to relay this information. I was looking for a video like this and it will sure be advantageous to my video editing with the Canon FS200..
hey i dont know why but the sd converter isnt working on my computer after i extract the files form downloading it and try to open the sd converter program it says "this application has failed to start because MSVBVM60.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." ive uninstalled and reinstalled this program a bunch of times, can i get some help?
@bakedchurro You need to install the Microsoft Virtual Basic 6.0 runtime files. This should've been on your computer already as part of Windows, but if not, I believe you can download it from Microsoft's web site.
Virtualdub is a good free alternative to videoredoplus when it just comes to simple editing. When I record TV shows onto my computer I use another program to record directly to xvid, but I use virtual dub to losslessly edit out things I don't need like commercials. I don't know if it works with mpeg 2 video, but it does seem to work well with xvid and probably many more.
VirtualDub is great and I use it a lot, but its editing capabilities are pretty crude. However, it works great with my ATI video capture card, so I've used VirtualDub for just about everything posted on my music channel (vwest1ife).
Um...my video is 20 seconds in the MOD is 88mb and so is the mpg. When i render out of vegas avi is 10gb and wmv is 300mb...When i open the wmv in windows media player i get blue screen and my computer crashes. Why is this so fcked?
I can't seem to find the link for the SD conversion you had said was in zip format? Can you direct me? I'm new to this & don't know where to find the link.
I have a question. I have a JVC Everio and i am trying to upload a video to youtube i just make on my camcorder. i hooked up the cord to my computer and nothing popped up. What do I do?
Did you watch my video before asking the question? Just use the program "SDcopy" which I show in the video and provide a link to download. It's free and much better than the software that JVC includes.
Excellent video and very informative. I never gave much thought to different formats until recently. I have a Sony camera that uploads very easily by USB to My Pictures, and Windows Movie Maker has not problem with the Sony format. I am not sure what format the Sony is. Will the SDcopy convert a DVD format for uploading to Windows Movie Maker and youtube. Thanks for showing the Videoredo , I think that is the software to have for editing.
SDcopy is not needed for DVD camcorders. You can just jump right into VideoReDo, or whatever program you want to use, and edit the video you've recorded onto the DVD.
Hi vest7ife, I did not mean a DVD camcorder, I meant a DVD movie disc. Windows movie maker doesn't recognize their format. I thought maybe the SDcopy could transfer the DVD format to MPEG2, which windows movie maker does recognize, but I guess if you get the VideoReDo, it would solve most all the format problems
No. SDcopy is only designed to work with the .MOD files generated by some brands of flash memory and hard drive camcorders.
VideoReDo is designed to work with DVDs, but be aware that it will not "crack" the copy protection on commercially released DVDs, if that's what you have in mind. You'll need other software (illegal but widely available) to do that.
i need help my canon fs11 i plug it in to the computer and it reconizes it and it says connect compact power adapter so i plug in the charger and my camera dosent notice it and my dad bought a new charger for it and it still doesnt work ....... PLEASE HELP !!!! , thank you
Try connecting the power adapter before you turn on the camcorder or connect it to the USB. The red light on the camcorder should start to flash, telling you that it is charging the battery. Also try initializing (erasing) the camcorder's internal memory, as it could be corrupted.
For further help, please read your owner's manual and/or contact Canon tech support. I do not work for Canon, nor do I own the same model of camcorder you have, so I am not the expert on this!
The camcorder may have the ability to copy videos from its internal memory to an SD flash memory card, but I'm not sure -- again, read the owners manual, and contact Canon for detailed tech support.
does .MOD works with final cut pro??

@iamthebomb17 Panasonic camcorders give you a choice of either MPEG or Dolby AC3 audio. You should set it to Dolby AC3 because I know that works fine with SDcopy. I haven't tested using my Panasonic SDR-S50 with the audio in MPEG mode, so I don't know if that causes any problems with SDcopy.

i want a sd camcorder that you can pause when recording...anybody know of 1 .
techstyle123 1 year ago
@techstyle123 Unfortunately there is no such thing. Any flash memory or hard drive camcorder will create a new file whenever you stop recording and then start again. Only tape based camcorders offer a true "pause" feature.

i'v been trying to use my hp v504u digital camcorder to get videos on windows movie maker, but every time i go to capture from video device it says it cant find anything even though my camera is plugged in, and i cant get videos saved on my cp either, all it lets me do is upload them drectly to utube and u can only use a single strait video, thats y i want movie maker 2 put multiple clips on 1 video and make them funner 2 watch please help this is so confusing!!!
metalflameful 1 year ago
Movie Maker will probably not recognize your camcorder as a capture device; it was really designed to work with tape camcorders. I suggest you try other video editing software, such as Sony Vegas.

would the Canon FS200 work with movie maker? cause on Canon's website it says the format is in MPEG-2
xctome 1 year ago
Depending on the codecs you have installed, Windows Movie Maker may or may not work correctly with MPEG2 videos. Unfortunately there is no guarantee.
vwest7ife 1 year ago
@vwest7ife ok. i am using windows vista home premium as of now, hopefully i will be getting a new laptop with windows 7. could i convert the MPEG-2 to like MPG or AVI would that work?
xctome 1 year ago
@xctome I've been able to get MPEG2 videos to work in WMM by installing the "K-Lite MPEG Pack". Just search for that name and you should find a link to download it.
vwest7ife 1 year ago
@vwest7ife cool. i shall do that. thanks Kevin!!

hey i dont know why but the sd converter isnt working on my computer after i extract the files form downloading it and try to open the sd converter program it says "this application has failed to start because MSVBVM60.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." ive uninstalled and reinstalled this program a bunch of times, can i get some help?
bakedchurro 1 year ago
@bakedchurro You need to install the Microsoft Virtual Basic 6.0 runtime files. This should've been on your computer already as part of Windows, but if not, I believe you can download it from Microsoft's web site.

the link for the sd video it is broken, can you send me another link?
AlexGaultchannel 2 years ago
The Zyvid site tends to go down from time to time. Try again later. If it still isn't working soon, I'll make my own download available.
vwest7ife 1 year ago
@AlexGaultchannel The link is now working again.

CoolDudeClem 2 years ago
VirtualDub is great and I use it a lot, but its editing capabilities are pretty crude. However, it works great with my ATI video capture card, so I've used VirtualDub for just about everything posted on my music channel (vwest1ife).

Um...my video is 20 seconds in the MOD is 88mb and so is the mpg. When i render out of vegas avi is 10gb and wmv is 300mb...When i open the wmv in windows media player i get blue screen and my computer crashes. Why is this so fcked?
MckMick 2 years ago
I cannot help you with Vegas, as I do not use it.
vwest7ife 2 years ago
do you know why a 30 second video would be 300mb? What is normal size for a video? and should i compress videos?
MckMick 2 years ago
Try asking on videohelp . com. I cannot give you support on every aspect of making and editing videos, especially for programs which I do not use.

I have a question. I have a JVC Everio and i am trying to upload a video to youtube i just make on my camcorder. i hooked up the cord to my computer and nothing popped up. What do I do?
outlawdude88 2 years ago
Did you watch my video before asking the question? Just use the program "SDcopy" which I show in the video and provide a link to download. It's free and much better than the software that JVC includes.
vwest7ife 2 years ago
Excellent video and very informative. I never gave much thought to different formats until recently. I have a Sony camera that uploads very easily by USB to My Pictures, and Windows Movie Maker has not problem with the Sony format. I am not sure what format the Sony is. Will the SDcopy convert a DVD format for uploading to Windows Movie Maker and youtube. Thanks for showing the Videoredo , I think that is the software to have for editing.
maynardcat 2 years ago
SDcopy is not needed for DVD camcorders. You can just jump right into VideoReDo, or whatever program you want to use, and edit the video you've recorded onto the DVD.
vwest7ife 2 years ago
Hi vest7ife, I did not mean a DVD camcorder, I meant a DVD movie disc. Windows movie maker doesn't recognize their format. I thought maybe the SDcopy could transfer the DVD format to MPEG2, which windows movie maker does recognize, but I guess if you get the VideoReDo, it would solve most all the format problems
maynardcat 2 years ago

That was the information I was looking for. I thought I could count on you for the right answer Thanks.

i need help my canon fs11 i plug it in to the computer and it reconizes it and it says connect compact power adapter so i plug in the charger and my camera dosent notice it and my dad bought a new charger for it and it still doesnt work ....... PLEASE HELP !!!! , thank you
jcjuve 2 years ago
Try connecting the power adapter before you turn on the camcorder or connect it to the USB. The red light on the camcorder should start to flash, telling you that it is charging the battery. Also try initializing (erasing) the camcorder's internal memory, as it could be corrupted.
For further help, please read your owner's manual and/or contact Canon tech support. I do not work for Canon, nor do I own the same model of camcorder you have, so I am not the expert on this!
vwest7ife 2 years ago
is there any way i can save my videos with out deleting anything i have some very special clips on there
jcjuve 2 years ago
The camcorder may have the ability to copy videos from its internal memory to an SD flash memory card, but I'm not sure -- again, read the owners manual, and contact Canon for detailed tech support.
vwest7ife 2 years ago
I recently read that Windows 7 will not include Windows Movie Maker. So, there's another good reason to download SDcopy and VideoReDo Plus.
