  • Joe Satriani inspirated : )

  • This is about the slight curve in Petrucci's penis.

  • lydian mode ftw

  • wow good song!!!!!!!

    MAN!!!

  • @ 1:45 my face melts

  • his fingers are alive!!!!!!!!!!!

  • phrygian dominant has a flat7th .....

  • Klobaerscht sorry for my english, phrygian dom is the same escale that phrygian BUT! whit the major third

  • Least fav song from suspended animation...still love Petrucci though.

  • 1:44 no words

  • Really nice song, but the whammy effect kindy eats up the song to me :o

  • @BigGHpondus Its a wah-wah not a whammy lol

  • OH NOOO :'( Just when the world domination mode started the video ended :'(

  • Bom solo...Para mim o melhor guitarrista do mundo...Sou muito fã...Um dia chegarei ao pés dele.

  • is there a video around wherer we can see him do the full song in a good quali?

  • mostro

    the best

  • @12guitar00d I think it's coz no-one really cares live. I thought that about Constant Motion when I watched a live vid but after seeing them/him live I was too busy enjoying the vibe!!

  • 1:40 to 1:50 satch get out this body !

  • Does anybody know why he doesn't have a guitar player in his band for solo tours?Pretty much all of the songs on Suspended animation have many layers of harmonies which would sound better live if he had a rhythm/co-lead guitarist.

  • @13guitard00d Because he is John Petrucci... That is all

  • haha lol... true!

  • jordan Rudess does the background co leads etc

  • indeed does any1 has the tabs of curve??

  • Sounds very Amazing *-*

  • no mams, que chingona cancion y es una chingonada el wha wha, 5 estrellas

  • i love wah :D

  • shredder from hell!

  • No that's Dimebag, JP's a God

  • and Dime isn't?

  • not compared to john

  • Honestly, I don't think that you can really compare the two because of stylistic differences imo.

  • this sounds a lot like Vai for two reasons, the effect and the altered scales in fast descends.

  • Agree 100%...

But.. this is a bit more agressive.. don't ya think?

  • loool! At 2:30, his guitar only has 3 strings :D

  • wonder why?

  • Tabs?

  • 2.30 looks like there is only EAD stings hahahaha

  • good song, i love all the whole and whole/half passing tones then to lydian for a major progression. Passing tones ARE the key to make music sound complicated and exotic. him and michael romeo are the kings of that

  • thats the first thing that came to mind when i heard this peice. the lydian mode is used so well with its curious swing

  • Me gustaria verlo tocar el tema completo

    :(

  • Im meeting him on Saturday :D!!!! as well as the rest of the band. Can't wait

  • What! how was itt??

  • Pretty good. Got a bandana, a signed pic, a signed backstage pass and a pic with the band

  • Sounds better than Satriani.

  • I preffer satch... but cmon people there are different styles and playing manners... you cant compare them both... this song is satrianish (one of the instrumental gods) but its impossible to rate them... ive learned that... everybody earns a first podium based on skills, speed, techniques and so on...

  • anyone who wht kinda WAH pedal he is using?? please respond

  • could be vox...

  • he uses and ordinary dunlop foot controller but the sound comes from the rack wah (from dunlop too)

  • look on petrucci's site, it should say, i believe that its a dunlop wah that he is using

    (*spelling?)

  • THIS IS TRUE MUSIC!!!! much better than hardcore shit...

  • sounds really satrianilike

  • indeed

  • yeah, sounds a lot like ghosts imo

  • @Mikeelgafo Agreed!

  • what i would give for that guitar...

  • Yeah man I wish I had like 2 grand for his signature 7 string xD

  • the guitar i can live without, but i would do anything for that tone..

  • I downloaded a John Petrucci tone for my RP-250 and its amazing! The RP-250 also has the option to use "Wha" on any effect. If you want this tone and dont mind spending $150+ then I highly reccomend a RP-250!

  • Only $150.. thats pretty good. hey thank a lot man..

  • Why does it miss out the awesome part?

  • Dream Theater fucking rocks

  • holw hell those strings are so small you can barly see them unless they vibrate weird...

  • *mouth drops* now THIS is a good guitarist, dream theater is the greatest guitarist ever,!

  • so much WHA WHA WHA WHA WHA.like it

  • 1:44 wtf?¿

hi seld his alm for the devil man?¿

  • gran john guitarrista nro 1 sin lugar a dudas....( para mi)

  • anyway it's a great song!!

  • is it Satch or John?

  • TBH I didn't really like his solo album which Is odd since I love DT :\

  • No, its an E phrygian dominant or A Harmonic minor the so that means that the G is replaced by a G sharp....so there is no chromatic

  • dont know what you mean but If your talking about the basis of this song its without doubt E lydian.

  • clip fades out as during the solo with a change to F# phyg dom

  • Comment removed

  • is he using wah wah effects?

  • No, that's a whammy pedal set for twenty-five octaves up.

    Yeah, it's a wah.

  • HAHAHA gd one LOL

  • stop at 1:51!!!! hahaha!! this guy is killing it!!

  • yea does anyone know what kind of wah pedal he uses?

  • I think he uses a rack-mounted Dunlop Crybaby

  • I think he has his own sognature model and the price is 600$... i am not joking the price really is that big.

  • 600 isnt too bad for a rack mounted effect actually.

  • That's what he uses in his live setups, he isn't using his rack here, it's just a demo, he's using road kings with a few pedals

  • Petrucci is an amazing player, he can make the simplest things sound so great but he's also an awesome shredder!

  • JP owns at guitar and it totally ripped. Amazing.

  • so much...so much...

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAH

  • you know youv convinced my labrie is a good singer =]

  • That is a godly tone

  • no me gusta mucho escuchar un guitarrista sarpando asi mal.. o sea.. es genial, son increibles, pero me resulta cansador..

pero este tema.. es el unico q no me canso de escuchar,

    una obra de arte

  • hey stop spamming all the vids. my advice to tell your friends, who then recommend it to their friends, or put something up on facebook, but not myspace because myspace will make it look like something stupid. then, get some friends on facebook to look at your vids and have them spread the word. put on your video on facebook that they should check out your channel on youtube for more amazing covers, (even though idk how they are cuz i havent watched any yet.

this should help you get many views

  • His legato looks beautiful.

  • groso petrucci :)

  • This kind of reminds me of Joe Satriani!

  • INOOOOOO

    i luve joe and johnnn

john developed part of his style

from joe since there always on the g3 tour

and vice versa along with vai...

  • Because it's Lydian.

  • lydian mode is B-E-A-utiful. but i love that he also used phrygian dominant...my 2 favorite modes, PD and lydian

  • mine too! LYDIAN IS AWESOME . so is pd

  • Can you guys tell me, what the difference between phrygian and phrygian dom ist?

  • The difference is an Augmented 3rd

    for example

    E phrygian is

    E F G A B C D E

    and E phrygian dominant is

    E F Gsharp A B C D E

so the 3rd note is moved up a half step :D

  • Its A Harmonic Minor, just started on the Phrygian Note, the E.

It´s one of my Favorite Tune =)

  • Harmonic minor would be E Phrygian dominant but played with A as the root note

    Like A B C D E F Gsharp A

  • Yes an E phrygian dominant is A Harmonic just with an E as the root note, that was what i meen ^^

  • or really short, the only different is: its major not minor =)

  • Hahahaha! thats a great way to put it :D

  • hmmmm., so it would make a tetranote "G-Gsharp-A" a simple chromatic scale.

  • No, in E phrygian dominant or A Harmonic minor the G is replaced by a Gsharp....so no chromatism

  • oh, so in A harmonic, G could be sensed as another starting note?

thanks, it's my 1st time in general music.

  • oh, i mean Gsharp, LOL!

  • yep, correct,

    and mixolydian goes like this:

    E F G A# B C D E...

but the only note that can be used as a starting point(beginning) on a mixolydian scale WITHOUT the flats and sharps is F..

    "F G A B C D E F"

  • F G A B C D E F is F Lydian is it not? Cos in F major theres a Bb, which is the 4th degree. you raise the 4th to get a lydian scale...

  • @Klobaerscht Phryg dom has a major third. Oh, its also the best scale in the world ;)

  • @Klobaerscht phrygian dominant has a raised (dominant) 3rd degree to a major 3rd. any time you see dominant it means the given scale/chord has a major 3rd and a minor 7th. phrygian dominant is also a mode of the harmonic minor scale (not sure which one), so it has that super cool sounding minor 3rd interval in there. basically phrygian dominant is phrygian with the 3rd note up 1 half step.

  • @Klobaerscht Phrygian is the 3rd mode of a major scale. for instance E phyrigian is E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E Phrygian dominant is the same mode with a 3rd degree a semitone higher. E phrygian dominant is E, F,G sharp, A, B, C, D, E

  • @Klobaerscht Let's take the major scale in C: C D E F G A B C the 3° mode (phrygian) is: E F G A B C D starting from E, scale degrees are: 1 2b 3b 4 5 6b 7b Now lets take the harmonic minor scale in C: C D Eb F G Ab B C the 5° mode (phrygian dominant) is: G Ab B C D Eb F starting from G, scale degrees are: 1 2b 3 4 5 6b 7b So: - the 2 Phrygian are related to different scales. - Phrygian dom has the 3° raised half tone if compared to Phrygian hope it helps!
  • @Klobaerscht Phrygian dom is the 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale.

  • @Klobaerscht phrygian dom is the 5th mode of harmonic minor, while phrygian is the 5th mode of natural. or you could say phrygian dom is phrygian with a raised 3rd scale degree.

  • This is my ringtone!

    \m/

  • That's a bold thing to say!

  • At least on his solo album you don't have to listen to James Labrie.

  • your right i hae labrie >={

they should replace him with that dude that sings from symphony X =P

  • how could you not like labrie?? hes a veryyyy good singer. like, really really good. wat just because his voice isnt very metal doesnt mean he cant be in a band like dream theater.

and u cant expect them to get rid of him, even if you dont like him, i mean theyve been together for soooo long.

  • fuck yourself labrie fits dream theater any other wouldnt sound like the sound they have made with him in the band

  • need you be reminded that dream theater is a PROGRESSIVE metal band? it translates, basically, into meaning that you need to sound... good in order to sing that style of music. it's not crappy ass shred metal where you basically just sing whatever you want and have piss poor half decent guitar parts carry you.

  • Holy shit!!!This guy is amazing.

  • Kurwa;p

  • imba!

  • Fuck i wish i had a roadking.

  • no, he actually uses a roadking, which has a lonestar channel and two rectifier channels in it.

  • This sounds much like a tune satch would do. Its awesome tho

  • IMHO the best song of suspended animation album

  • sounds like something off of surfing the alien

  • True petrucci trade marks, are symmetric runs, the straightforward rhythm, which also makes the odd time signatures sound cooler, and of course his very tasty chromatics.

  • Great sng, very satch like. Std drum Rock beat, mode changes in lydian, simple melody, no synth backing, how he uses the wah, the long legato line after the theme. What exactly isn't satriani in this song?:P

Btw damage control, jaws of life are awesome. Does are true petrucci, but u can't deny the heavy satch, oh i'm listening too the outro now, droning e note. I think it's a great tribute too satch :)

  • great music...

    great guitarrist

    the master of guitar!!!!

  • ok but still very satriani-esque.......

  • don't understand the 3 thumbs down...if someone tells me i sound like satriani i'd be honored, anyway they are two of my fav guitarist and with petrucci video i improved a lot my playng(rock disipline).peace

  • You made it sound like it was a bad thing. They both use basswood body guitars and passive humbuckers so of course the sound is similar in that way but what he played doesn't sound anywhere near how Satriani usually plays.

  • This is the happiest locrian i've ever heard @_@

Doesn't sound really diminished at all, even though he is playing a chord with a b5 in it

  • This is in E Lydian, then switches to F# Phrygian, as far as i know.

  • okay. let me just state that i think every mode sounds different to different people, or it depends on what the background chord is. im just saying, correct me if i'm wrong.

  • normally the mode is dependent on the chord that is being played behind it

  • true, true.but if youre just playing a total one-man-band solo, and using the C major scale, and you have no background guitarist, you can say that he's using the D Dorian, or E Phrygian; because C Ionian (A.K.A major) = D Dorian = E Phrygian = F lydian, and so on. technically you are correct, but im just putting it in another way. this is just my opinion by knowledge, correct me if im wrong.

  • it depends what note you emphasise in the solo really

  • oh cool. but im just curios, if he emphasizes the E note, while knowing its in the C major, will you have to say hes playing the E phrygian? i just started learning about scales and modes.. lol its pretty confusing

  • Dont agree, the Lokrian scale can be applyed as a minor scale over a m7b5 chord. Espacially when playing II-V-I progression in a minor key. I agree though about melodic minor, and harmonic minor mode thoughts you have. I myself never think in modes. Rather shades/aspects/ of ionian. Best, Sandemose

  • Petrucci 4 ever!!

  • petrucci ranca bosta

  • sounds like a satriani song...i bet he made it after the g3..am i right?joe can inspire anybody...ops someone arleady wrote this..

  • wrong.....he made it before the g3...actually he play some songs from the disc at the g3

  • petrucci did NOT make this after the g3 tour. his solo album Suspended Animation was the only thing he played at the tour and this song is in that album

  • if he wanted to

  • From his biography: "His musical education began with a great music theory class he took in high school. Being primarily self taught, he did receive a few lessons when he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he learned jazz composition and harmony".

  • I know that the natural scale is the ionian scale for C, but it can also be bassed for example on D, using the same progression of the natural scale, and you'll get a dorian for D, which is minor. So basically the natural scale can be both minor and major depending on what note you're using. But I got your point and yeah it is incorrect to call the natural scale a major.

  • it can actually be a natural minor mode... if you use the seventh position of locrian in C for any other chord you get a minor mode.

  • Petrucci is great at sounding like other guitarists, like Vai, Satch and Morse.

  • Sounds like Joe Satriani, I agree

  • well yeah, depending on what mode or scale your in you would call it either b5 or #4. You have to call it something. If there's already a 5th, then you can't have another one.

  • b5 and #4 are the same.

  • First time I ever heard this and I have to agree with ChromeXK it really does sound like flying in a blue dream.

  • Splendid! Not like all the shredders we got used to. Listen carefully to the tasteful usage of the wha and overtones, very sensitive.

  • yeah this does remind me of flying in a blue dream

  • lol the wah rly makes me laugh on this song!!!

ROFLMAO...omfg tears of joy...hurting my stomach
