  • Its not something that goes on just any where, but there are specific areas where it is approved. It is also limited during prime season - on the OBX there is a long tradition of beach driving and especially with fishermen. Until the early 50s - that's the only way they had to get around on Hatteras Island :) Its not for everyone - but there are plenty of people who love it.

  • I noticed this activity when I was in the OBX and also in Florida. I have a hard time understanding why someone would wish to drive on the beach? And isn't there concern for turtles, pollution, dripping oil, and so on? As a tourist, or if I were a beach house owner, the last thing I would want to see looking out my window would be cars on the beach. That's where I go to get away from all that.

  • @EsmereldasGoat -- I also have a hard time understanding why certain people find joy in a particular activity, but as long as it's not causing harm, then by all means enjoy what you love. As to your other comment, of course there is concern for turtles, pollution, and dripping oil. Who wouldn't be? As to whether or not the cars bother you when you look out the window, I'm sorry about that as well. I understand we can't all live in utopian surroundings.
