@inrwizards how can anyone look at what happened with the main character and the ending and consider that just another serial killer movie. You need to rewatch again. It has more to it than that. It's about violence in our society and how the world seems increasingly morbid to the old man in the story.
Anyone who didn't understand the ending needs to watch it again and pay close attention to all of Tommy Lee Jones' scenes. Then it should all make sense.
you arent supposed to get any closure in the ending. there is no way that they could have given you closure, everyone is dead except Antwon and the Sheriff. that is how the book ends. the mexicans get their money, the sheriff does not die, he might have retired though.

How can someone not understand the ending? The bad guy won and Ed Tom Bell is left to contemplate his place in the world.
