My favourite part of this video is the people claiming that evolution is a "theory" and has "never been proven as fact"... Well, YEA. In the scientific community fact is not a word. It does not exist. There is no TRUTH, only results and information that is considered reliable, accepted, and replicable--which is referred to as a 'theory'. It's as close as you can get to being true, from a scientific standpoint. You cannot prove something to be a fact.
Intelligent Design is just a slightly more subtle version of creationism. ID claims that life didn't come about via natural processes, and there really only leaves two candidates for the "designer": a supernatural entity (creationism), or extraterrestrials (panspermia). And even the 2nd explanation is still creationism in the long run, because (according to ID) extraterrestrial life couldn't come about by natural processes either & must have been designed too.
If these creationists want to have creationism taught, they should do it on their own time and their own dime. To do otherwise would both be lazy and cheap. If they want to teach creationism, they need to do it through their church.
I will argue that there is a difference between intelligent design and creationism. It's a sliding scale between believing god or some higher function created the complexity of everything around us. Granted, one is more dogmatic than the other, but nobody quite knows for certain either way.
@chaoticpix93 whether one is more dogmatic than the other is not what is pertinant. What makes them the same is that there is exactly the same amount of scientific evidence in favor of both of them: zero. Arguing a "god of the gaps" is not how science works, which is why such an approach has no place in the science classroom
@chaoticpix93 You can argue all you like. The fact of the matter is that there is no concrete evidence that would suggest that the universe and life came about by anything other than natural causes. If someone want's to teach thier religeon to thier kids, fine, I'd rather they didn't but that's thier perogavative.
@chaoticpix93 Masqurading it as science in the public domain is nothing more than willfuly spreading misinformation, which means a significant portion of the population is ill equipped to form thier opinions based in reality and that's a scary thought to me.
John Adams: "The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God."
Why do P&T love the 2nd Amendment but had the idea of the Founding Fathers that our rights come from God?
Erm.... These people don't seem to understand that they aren't the only religious people with creation beliefs. They are hell bent on narrowing their community's world view *and intellectual relevance in the world.* No one coming out of the educational system they envision will have any meaningful impact outside of the 700 Club, if they have their way.
It is myth that creates the world.without Neptune, the sea would be dead, and the waves owe half of their fascination to the human invention of Venus. Frederico Garcia Lorca
If they want to teach creationism in schools, then the class needs to be an elective, it needs to cover all the stories of creation from every world religion both current and extinct, and it needs to be called mythology.
@toniviguncio Do not make the mistake of thinking all people with southern accents are creationists. I live in the south, have just a hint of an accent, and am also a free thinker. I believe evolution to be fact and that has nothing to do with where I live. There are people who live elsewhere that are just as stupid as these people in the video. Not all southerners are creationists.
Evolution may be a theory but has sound scientific evidence. Creationism has NO scientific evidence backing it. Seriously any educated adult should be able to see through Creationism. Do you also still believe in the Tooth Fairy. Keep your God out of my School and Government and I will keep my intelligent though our of your church.
"there is a significant number of science professionals who are skeptical of evolution"
Well then. They arent real scientists. They are not following fact and understanding, they are choosing to "BELIEVE" something that isn't reality. Just like some theists who claim to understand their religion but barely have ever read any scripture. The difference is science is still reality where as scripture is stories told by hundreds of people, edited and rewritten by other people over thousands of years.
Here is what you come down to . Science has disproved pretty much all of your "beliefs" and stories. You ignore science while reaping its benefits like medicine. Read your bible, you'd be hypocrites in the eyes of your "god". So you've decided that since so many people are waking up, looking at scientific fact and walking away from ignorance that is FAITH, that the way to get the new people in this "fad of thinking" is to kinda act like scientists to bring back your money, i mean FOLLOWERS!
Theists can be annoying, but hey most will admit they are ignoring fact to have faith.
CREATIONISTS ARE INFURIATING. You pricks decide to misconstrue FACT and the scientific process with your "faith" and beliefs to make yourself sound smart.
Are these morons for real? Maybe they should introduce a "parent licence" so these gullible fools should be unable to reproduce... They don't believe in a plausible "theory of evolution", but a magic man in the sky that performs miracles and such, all seems to be completely feasible? Really? One documentary to watch = Zeitgeist. Nuff said.
I have yet to meet a single creationist who actually understands the theory of evolution and has taken time to look at the massive amounts of evidence for it. They just hear their preacher (who doesn't understand it) say they think it's evil, and the pass that on, without having a mind of their own.
Also, you want to have ALL options taught in school? Are we going to teach about the flat earth society in geography? How about Stork Theory in sexual education? Get real.
this movie looks pretty fun, based on evolution vs. creation, I like the fact that just 2 brothers made the entire thing, called EVOLUTION CREEK, look it up!
@NWAWskeptic I know. Every time I hear the "just a theory" argument, it doesn't matter how many times I've heard it, I have to grit my teeth. Before they start using terms, they need to learn the damn definition!
I don't know how to say this gently folks. This country and the world is doomed if this kind of ignorance is allowed to continue much longer. I suspect we have about 20 yrs left before we suffer a global financial collapse, and these religious people will help to speed our demise because they think as things get worse it's just a sign jesus is coming. They do not want to have prosperity, they want us all to die and go to heaven. These people do not deserve a voice in societal matters at all.
THE DEBATE IS OVER PEOPLE. This whole "theory not a theory" bullshit is ridiculous. It is an accepted FACT, like electronic principles and gravity (refute those, bible whackjobs). Read about how viruses evolve, or what scientists have done to lizards. We have countless examples! Why do whales have vestigial hip bones? Because they used to have legs!! christ almighty, get educated christians. you're just furthering your stereotype as being out of touch. dying religion can't die fast enough
@RandomTrollAccount Sorry buddy, the only way animals of any kind "evolve" is through a principle called "survival of the fittest". Whales used to have legs? Really. That's like saying I fell out of a really big tree and was so scared that i decided to grow wings and fly to safety. Not a likely scenario. We all know religion is myth and myth is story and story is bullshit, agreed? But this evolution "theory" is just that, a theory, hence not yet proven.
@Bumcrumpets so if you don't understand the basics, the simplest concepts of what a theory is, specifically evolution or how about gravity or germ, how are we to have an intelligent discussion? i suggest you READ about how it works. maybe they have a childrens version that would be more your speed. i'm literally astounded at the stupidity of your comment. great job. you're 35... great job
@RandomTrollAccount For laypeople, a theory is simply an idea. Some people use “theory” like “hypothesis,” positing an idea which needs to be tested. At other times, an idea may be dismissed as “just a theory,” with the implication that it cannot be proven and it is only a rough idea, not a firm fact or opinion. Too many big words in this one, or can you understand?
@Bumcrumpets great job with the wiki cut and paste. now, for someone to dismiss an insurmountable pile of supporting evidence on gravity, thermodynamics, evolution, germ theory, that is pretty stupid, which you have so proudly done. you seem to put a lot of belief in those, hmm? oh, but they are just "ideas", right? whales have vestigial hip bones. you didn't offer another explanation for this. so far you offered up a contradiction and a ridiculous analogy that makes absolutely no sense. nice
@RandomTrollAccount Are you for real? Whales, lol. And how did they "evolve"? Did they just decide to have their legs fall off because they couldn't be bothered to walk? Plenty of animals share the same bones and structures, and even dna, but it doesn't meanas much as you read into it. Emu's have wings but can't fly. Does this mean they used to? No. What about penguins, or cassowary's? Same again I'm afraid. Not to mention Kiwi's. When did I dismiss gravity, thermodynamics etc? I didn't.
i have come up with a scientific theory but need some help to solve it.....i have posted it on you-tube site "robert mueller (clip)".....just read my comments below the video.
So the notion that every question is "god did it". How the fuck is that science? There is no scientific method to creationism, its a bunch of bs. Keep teaching evolution, these dumb parents are doing a disservice to their kids.
@byteresistor Theory = For laypeople, a theory is simply an idea. Some people use “theory” like “hypothesis,” positing an idea which needs to be tested. @Bumcrumpets don't even bother talking to bumnugget here, he doesn't even understand what evolution is about yet he still runs of at the mouth. it's quite sad and baffling. Even gave him an example for him to look up, but i'm sure his phd in science allows him to waive it away. he's like a little child. theories are logical constructs, an explanation on how things might work. they're composed of facts, testable hypothesis, and laws, brought together to explain a natural phenomenon. U UNDERSTAND?
@RandomTrollAccount Let me guess, umm, you're american, right? Have you ever thought that maybe not everything is able to be explained with the science that is currently available? Clearly not, and maybe you should factor that 'theory' into your studies so you won't be so quick to believe everything that's rammed into your every orifice. Not everything is able to be explained just now, it may take some time for logical and legitimate answers to be found, not just because they fit the equation.
@Bumcrumpets ugh, now you aren't even talking about the same topic *facepalm* what does living in america have to... if it fits the equation the it IS logi... whatever. your stupidity to not comprehend simple statements or even write something coherent enough that it has some semblance of intelligence has finally prevailed. great job. i highly suggest taking a basic science course or maybe a course on logic. seriously, it'll do you some good, buddy. i'm done.
@RandomTrollAccount Comprehension is a skill you have not yet learnt. americans are known world-wide for being fed lies and false information and not asking questions, just believing what they're told, because 'no way would those in any position of authority or power do or say anything to upset the status quo or put their 'great' nation into jeopardy'. The Lusitania, The Bay of Tonkin, 9/11, there's 3 examples of you guys believing what the media and authorities tell you. Ask questions. "TOPIC"
@ThunderMagi Thank you thank you thank you, someone who really understands this whole damn debate. Have you noticed each side is ready to disprove each other's side but not prove their own? Discrediting someone else doesn't make your idea more feasible. Neither are proven. Bible says nothing about dinosaurs or fossils, but how can science determine what an animal ate, looked like, what kind of skin / feathers / scales it had or what colour it was based on finding a leg bone? Both have flaws.
@Bumcrumpets sit down little one. Science uses this wonderful thing called inference. We see their sharp teeth! Oo scary! they must have eaten meats! We have fossilized poop with bones inside! Eww, i know right? We have animals that are similar structurally today, so we think they might look similar on the outside as well. crazy, right? We have done this with planet finding, DNA, and electronics. it's worked out pretty well so far. now off to bed little guy. so adorable...
@RandomTrollAccount So these scientists use assumption to quantify their alleged findings? Awesome, so profound. So we share similar body physics and characteristics with dolphins, does that mean we cam from dolphins? Same with monkeys. No it doesn't. And if we evolved from apes, why are there still apes? Surely they would've "evolved". Didn't scientists also say the world was going to fall apart at the turn of the century? What happened? NOTHING!!! WAY TO GO SCIENCE.
@Bumcrumpets We didn't evolve from apes, we share a common ancestor with apes. From what I know, we came from the Proconsul, which it's self evolved from the Notharctus. The Proconsul eventually, through isolation of gene and natural selection, turned into the Nakalipithecus and the Ouranopithecus. That's what I got so far. I haven't compleatly read this book. idk, I find it ineresting.
I find the theory of evolution a more realistic and rational idea, but that's just me. I have my view, religious people are entitled to theirs.
Evolution is more scientific, and should be taught in school as science.
Creationism is an idea that a deity created everything. It's fine to believe that, but has no scientific grounds. Religion should be taught in religious education. Science should be taught in science. That is how I feel.
The thing with creationism is that it tells us nothing about science, because it isn't science. "I think a deity did all this." Okay. That's the end of it. There's nothing else you can say. Even if a God did create all this, it doesn't change science. Science asks "How did it happen?" not "Who did it?"
I think that "inteligent design" will eventually lead to "ancient alien design". These two theories are already merging together and sound similar. I'd believe more in inteligent alien design just because the universe is 14 billion years old and we're still debating what happened 6000 years ago. 1000 years from now these theories may become fact if we learn how to time travel and prove ourselves right or wrong.
I'm not from US, but there are a lot of good stuff in your country,, people, music bands, actors, tech, etc. But sometimes i think like wow! thats a fucking surreal country, are those people for real ?
@floresebu Unfortunately I agree. But can i ask you a favor, in the future try to say USA when you talk about your country, because America is a big continent, because I'm also American, from Argentina.
Arguing with creationists is like being hit over the head with a bible? In my experience, you can replace the bible with a brick painted to look like a bible, wrapped in barbed-wire and dipped in vinegar.
You can't argue with people who have already decided, before the conversation has even started, that anything you say is intrinsically wrong. These people don't use logic in the same way that normal people do, they abuse, pervert, and fetishise it into contrived game of confirmation bias.
@beigelycheenut don't forget that 16% of public school SCIENCE teachers are young earth creationists, who even though they are required by law to teach it they purposely teach it badly in such a way as to instill doubt. Then there are the teachers that are afraid to teach it properly for fear of complaints and gloss over it. Religion may not be the sole culprit, but it definitely deserves a huge chunk of the blame
@jackiedegracia I get you're angry, but you need to get your racial slurs off my video, or I'll do it for you. Attempting to call me out is one thing, but I wont have them for shock value and trolling
@jackiedegracia umm, the only reason I used that word was in response to another user who used it to justify the ridiculously high numbers of creationists in the US (notice the quotation marks?)
seriously these creationists are idiots. i'm a christian but i also believe in SCIENCE. these people are delusional if they think they can argue with Darwin and all modern biology.
@beigelycheenut also note that I never blamed it on the rednecks, 46% is far too high a number. And if there are "urban" areas with shit education that havent heard of evolution its because the science teachers are not following the curriculum they're supposed to, because its in there, and this episode is about the assholes that are trying to get it removed so that even more people will be ignorant of the facts. It almost passed in Indiana this week, but luckily they shelved it
OK, after that little roast THANKS for posting this. Try to rise above my anger & understand that this discussion is going to be heated & more than likely, if this were happening in person there almost certainly would be violence. Especially if you're dressing people down as being rednecks or as others have said, "retards". There's no respect coming from our side & that's a part of the problem. We're outnumbered & outdone by centuries of religious teaching. Think.
@CrystalEye736 Hum, seems our state is the opposite here. In cities they teach theory of evolution, and when my cousin from the 'farms of yer' we like to call them, came over, we had to teach it to her. lol
I say creationism should be taught in schools, as it is TRUTH! Everyone with half a brain knows that the Flying Spaghetti Monster created everything with His Noodley Appendage!
Yeah, so next... the KKK will want people to individually decdie whether or not slavery actually happened? Or maybe you choose if you want to believe that WW1 or WW2 ever happened?
Take all these people and throw them out in "gods" world, namely the Amazon jungle and let them live in this so called intelligent design and see how many hours they would make it.
"Until they prove evolution...". Try reading some science books, there is proof.
Isn't is a strange coincidence that the past 20 year decline in the quantity and quality of science and math studies in the school curriculum matches the 20 year increase in creationism and conspiracy theories? (Data available from the US Dep't of Education - which, btw, is one of the first Dept's to be dismantled by the social conservatives?)
Intelligent Design could be legitimate if it wasn't just an excuse to get the bible into schools...if it had it's own system and own rules and a theory...then MAYBE...
The theory of evolution will never be proven he says? That's like going back in time before 1915 telling Einstein he will never prove general relativity.
@kaneyp all we know for sure is that 46% of Americans are young earth creationists, ie believe in the literal story of genesis and that the earth is less than 10000 years old. I can only guess that none of them want evolution to be taught, but I cant be sure. Know though that that number is an average across the US but those people are not evenly dispersed, so there will be areas with fewer creationists and areas where they are the vast majority
@CrystalEye736 then they are deluded... and cannot comprehend life's true complexity.... as if stories help in learning to understand it.. simpletons!
@CrystalEye736 I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. It's 46% who don't believe in evolution. If you asked these people if they thought the world was only 10 thousand years old, I really don't think all of them would agree. Honestly, it's probably not just a bunch of rednecks saying that. It's probably a lot of Southern types, but also a LOT of people from urban areas who are black/latino because the education in those areas SUCKS. A lot probably haven't heard of evolution.
@beigelycheenut It's a gallup poll, you can visit your website. 46% (might be down to 44 this year) believe the earth is less than 10000 years old and every animal appeared fully formed. A further 35-40% believe the earth is old, but a supernatural force guided evolution in some shape or form, referred to as "theistic evolution". The rest (10-15%) accept "naturalistic evolution", ie no intervention, science based evolution. I know, its shocking, but it is what it is
@CrystalEye736 Well I'm not shocked at that either. I don't really blame religion as much as I blame the shitiness of the school system. Test scores are about the same as they were in the 50s while the budget has ballooned. I'm not against unions, but the way the teachers' union works there is to encourage mediocrity because you can't really reprimand teachers for incompetence once tenured. I have a feeling a lot of the pro evolution folks are disproportionately represented by private schoolers.
@beigelycheenut don't forget that 16% of public school SCIENCE teachers are young earth creationists, who even though they are required by law to teach it they purposely teach it badly in such a way as to instill doubt. It almost passed in Indiana this week, but luckily they shelved it
@kaneyp for the newest Gallup poll i could find (2010) it looks like 40% say God created humans as we are now within the last 10,000 years. I live in the pacific northwest and I can tell you that those numbers don't reflect my experience growing up and going to school in the southwest Washington and Portland area. Most of the creationists movement goes on in the South. It's hard believe it's seriously being debated in public school systems when I see it come up in national news.
Oh damn all the stupidity from those creationism ppl makes my head turn. How did the education board not vote to send all those poor idiots back to school?
ALTHOUGH I'M A CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN (Baptist), I no longer believe that the Bible teaches eternal torment or suffering. The Bible teaches eternal punishment, but it's not eternal torment. In my popular Internet article, TRADITIONAL DOCTRINE OF HELL EVOLVED FROM GREEK ROOTS, I explain how and why teaching of eternal torment entered early into Christianity and how Scriptures have been misinterpreted and taken out of context to support that teaching. ~Babu G. Ranganathan (B.A. theology/biology)
SCIENCE SHOWS THAT THE UNIVERSE could not have sustained itself eternally because of entropy (even in an open system). Einstein confirmed that space, matter, and time had a beginning! That beginning had to be supernatural because natural laws have no ability to bring the universe into existence from nothing. The supernatural cannot be proved by science but science points to a supernatural intelligence for the origin and order of the universe ~ HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE REFUTES ATHEISM (Article)
EINSTEIN CONFIRMED that space and time are just as physical as matter. That's why space and time can be altered by gravity, and space produces particles. Einstein's equations show that the universe couldn’t be eternal. It had a beginning. Einstein believed, because of science, in the existence of God behind the origin and order of the universe. He didn't believe in a personal God like Christians do, but he did believe science pointed to the existence of an all powerful and intelligent Creator
NATURAL LIMITS TO EVOLUTION: Only evolution within "kinds" is genetically possible (i.e. varieties of dogs, cats, etc.), but not evolution across "kinds" (i.e. from worm to human). How did species survive if their vital tissues, organs, reproductive systems were still evolving? Read my Pravda Internet article: WAR AMONG EVOLUTIONISTS! I discuss: Punctuated Equilibrium, "Junk DNA," genetics, mutations, natural selection, fossils, genetic and biological similarities between species.
@Mogley52 one species to another (without any foundation for enhancements is impossible).. that is not evolution... go learn something before you spout bollox!
APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from ape-like creatures anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from four-legged-pawed dog-like creatures. Read Internet article: MISSING LINKS THAT NEVER WERE.
EXPLAINING HOW AN AIRPLANE WORKS doesn't mean no one made the airplane. Explaining how life or the universe works doesn't mean there was no Maker behind them. Natural laws explain how the order in the universe works, but mere undirected natural laws can't explain the origin of that order. Once you have a complete, living cell then the genetic code/mechanisms exist to direct the formation of more cells, but how did the cell naturally originate when no directing code/mechanisms existed in nature?
NATURAL SELECTION IS NO BLIND WATCHMAKER because it can only "select" traits, not produce them. If a variation survives, that's called being "selected." Natural selection operates only once there is life and reproduction, not before, so it couldn't have been involved in life's origins. A partially-evolved cell (an oxymoron) would quickly disintegrate. It couldn't wait ("survive") millions of years for chance to complete it and then make it alive! Read: HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE REFUTES ATHEISM
THE SCIENCE SUPPORTING CREATION (Google this title to access the site). The site presents a collage of evidences from science supporting creation. Also read my Internet article, ANY LIFE ON MARS CAME FROM EARTH! According to a Newsweek article quoting a NASA scientist, in the Earth's past there was powerful volcanic activity which spewed life-containing dirt and rocks (now meteors) into outer space. Mars may literally have millions of tons of Earth soil.
thank you for uploading, I think it's a static argument that only effects people who are unsure. God lovers will always be god lovers, science fans will always follow science for answers.. seeing as how the product we use to explore a man made web of information is based in science, arguing for your faith in god to spread on it makes you all like viruses. You're just spam in a world made for finding useful information.. have fun losing your mind living forever in heaven.
We are always going to need people to pump our gas and clean our shoes, creationism will help us keep those people around. I am for creationism in certain states as it ensures thick fucks for me to push around, take advantage and make examples of in the real world, it makes me better and allows me to show that I am worth more than them. Mhm...I'm better, therefore I should get better.
@CrystalEye736 - Thanks for the reply. If we see a Swiss watch or any type of watch we look at it and think. "Someone made this." It's obvious because of the technology involved and the complexity of the mechanism. But evolution refuses the possibility of the existence of the Creator. I would include a passage from the Bible, but that would probable label me as a Bible-thumper and out-of-touch. But aren't I already if I even mention the possibility of a Creator?
@helio295 none of that actually addresses the issue of teaching things that are not science in the science classroom.
To address your comment, the watch analogy is a very famous one, although a false one also. Swiss watches cannot selfreplicate in any way, which is why they are not a good analogy of complexity that we see in life. For a very thorough breakdown of this fallacy I suggest The Blind Watchmaker, although The Greatest Show on Earth is better for those that arent scientists
@CrystalEye736 - Would you accept this? What if we take the pieces of a brand new Chevrolet Camaro, put them in a big box and shake them up. What are the chances that it will come out a fully functioning automobile? My guess is you will not accept this analogy either. That's okay.
@helio295 That's another very famous one actually, it's called the Boeing fallacy, also addressed in the Greatest Show On Earth. It is based on the supposition that evolution is based solely on random chance, which it is not. It is a combination of random mutation and the completely NONrandom process of natural selection. So yes, it is also a false analogy, because it is based on a misunderstanding of how evolution works
@CrystalEye736 Science cannot teach about how life started either base only on theory how life was started, because no one ever succeed to reproduce the zap of lighting into primordial soup and created life. Thus, that theory is only an assumption, much like creationist assume there is a Creator.
The alternative is to inform both versions and let further generation continue to seek out the real truth.
@cycletrade while there is far more evidence for abiogenesis than there is for creationism (and there is plenty of evidence that directly contradicts Judeo-Christian creationism), this has nothing to do with evolution. Evolution does not deal with the origins of the universe or the origins of life. That is a common misconception enthusiastically spread by creationists simply because abiogenesis is a younger field than evolution, which they see as more vulnerable
@CrystalEye736 Evolution that are mostly observed in microorganism are hardly fact of evolution much less fact for abiogenesis. Science deals on repeatable testing of hypothesis. Abiogenesis has not move more than a hypothesis. Little micro evolution also not a fact that life were not created. The problem with atheist is while knowing that science are still progressing, they use even hypothesis to call it facts that there is no creator.
@cycletrade apart from the problem creationsists seem to have with proper grammar, what you said is false. No scientist ever says that there is evidence that there is no creator, for the simple fact that it's logically impossible to prove a negative. All they say is that there are natural mechanisms by which life can come about without the need of a creator, which is an entirely different story. Either way this video is about evolution, not abiogenesis, which are 2 seperate fields
@helio295 what you are uttering here is called the "watchmaker argument" , which is non-sense, a watch is not a creation, but the assembly of different pre-existent matter such as metals and plastic, neither of wish are living entitites and hence not subject to natural selection.
Normally, we tend to align our state of existence with a pre-supposition of reason, and thought. Some believe there's a reason for everything that exists. That's what most creation myths are centered on. So, I understand the need to believe that everything exists and happens due to reasons and intentions.
As for evolution, it's still a theory, just like creationism. The difference? Evolution backed up by science, creationism backed up by faith.
It takes more faith to believe in nothing than it does Someone. People do not want to believe in God because that would make them subservient to God. Granted, the nice people in Georgia shown in the video are not the best example of true Christian love. But there are high-educated Ph. D.'s from state-funded universities of have very strong Creationist beliefs. in the end, it comes down to a matter of faith.
@helio295 no, it comes down to a matter of evidence, logic and science. Creationism is founded on none of those things, which is why it has no place in the science classroom. This is not about believing in a God, it is about teaching only science (and not faith) as science. What you believe at home or what church you go to after school has no bearing on that.
@helio295 Actually "belief" comes to down to how strongly you were indoctrinated by your parents, and how weak willed you are , ie unable to reject your indoctrination.
Whats the deal here? Evolution is not prooved? Evolution is a fact, and its proven with evidences left behind from billions of years!
Im torn between science and religion too! I know what the truth is and still yet I've started going to Church. You've no idea how I was cornered and laughed at when I talked facts and I'd get answered with fiction. Its still fine because I know my family is just thinking and saying for my own good. I understand that but I know what is and isn't!
"I want my daughter to choose..." No, you want there to be EXCLUSIVELY creationism - but you know you wont get your way. If you're gonna teach creationism in schools, you have to teach every other view on how life began - Christianity CANNOT have an exclusive say over everything!
I don't understand... in my culture in Japan, we welcome adversities and arguments. When your belief still outshines from other influence only validates your teachings. Why are Christian group promote ignorance and prefer sheltered life? Do they not seek wisdom to test their character so they too came be stronger and learned?
Wake up Americans, pay less tax to the government. Donate to build more Christian schools, that is the only way where state cannot mess around with our Christian beliefs.

While I'm a Christian, personally, I don't believe in Creationism. But, I can also see evolution and creationism fitting within each other. Why does it have to be one or the other?
@TehLB because science is about finding the most acurate explination. in order to do this we use the scientific method. 1. define question 2. observe 3. form hypothesis 4. test hypothesis 5. analize the data 6. draw conclusion (which serves as a starting point for new hypothesis) 7. share 8. repeat (by other people) creationism falls apart in this method while evolution makes it through all 8 steps repeatedly. although it is possible that god had a hand in it, it violates occams razor.
@MrKGatl Actually, this is a little outdated. The stickers were removed a several years ago, although you can still feel the tacky residue on the front cover of our science books where the stickers were pasted. And I think the move to add Creationism to the curriculum was also defeated. No need to move.

Granted, one is more dogmatic than the other, but nobody quite knows for certain either way.
chaoticpix93 4 days ago
@chaoticpix93 whether one is more dogmatic than the other is not what is pertinant. What makes them the same is that there is exactly the same amount of scientific evidence in favor of both of them: zero. Arguing a "god of the gaps" is not how science works, which is why such an approach has no place in the science classroom
CrystalEye736 4 days ago 2
@chaoticpix93 You can argue all you like. The fact of the matter is that there is no concrete evidence that would suggest that the universe and life came about by anything other than natural causes. If someone want's to teach thier religeon to thier kids, fine, I'd rather they didn't but that's thier perogavative.

So you've decided that since so many people are waking up, looking at scientific fact and walking away from ignorance that is FAITH, that the way to get the new people in this "fad of thinking" is to kinda act like scientists to bring back your money, i mean FOLLOWERS!

RandomTrollAccount 1 week ago
@RandomTrollAccount Sorry buddy, the only way animals of any kind "evolve" is through a principle called "survival of the fittest". Whales used to have legs? Really. That's like saying I fell out of a really big tree and was so scared that i decided to grow wings and fly to safety. Not a likely scenario. We all know religion is myth and myth is story and story is bullshit, agreed? But this evolution "theory" is just that, a theory, hence not yet proven.
Bumcrumpets 1 week ago
@Bumcrumpets so if you don't understand the basics, the simplest concepts of what a theory is, specifically evolution or how about gravity or germ, how are we to have an intelligent discussion? i suggest you READ about how it works. maybe they have a childrens version that would be more your speed. i'm literally astounded at the stupidity of your comment. great job. you're 35... great job
RandomTrollAccount 1 week ago
@RandomTrollAccount For laypeople, a theory is simply an idea. Some people use “theory” like “hypothesis,” positing an idea which needs to be tested. At other times, an idea may be dismissed as “just a theory,” with the implication that it cannot be proven and it is only a rough idea, not a firm fact or opinion. Too many big words in this one, or can you understand?
Bumcrumpets 1 week ago
@Bumcrumpets great job with the wiki cut and paste. now, for someone to dismiss an insurmountable pile of supporting evidence on gravity, thermodynamics, evolution, germ theory, that is pretty stupid, which you have so proudly done. you seem to put a lot of belief in those, hmm? oh, but they are just "ideas", right? whales have vestigial hip bones. you didn't offer another explanation for this. so far you offered up a contradiction and a ridiculous analogy that makes absolutely no sense. nice
RandomTrollAccount 1 week ago
@RandomTrollAccount Are you for real? Whales, lol. And how did they "evolve"? Did they just decide to have their legs fall off because they couldn't be bothered to walk? Plenty of animals share the same bones and structures, and even dna, but it doesn't meanas much as you read into it. Emu's have wings but can't fly. Does this mean they used to? No. What about penguins, or cassowary's? Same again I'm afraid. Not to mention Kiwi's. When did I dismiss gravity, thermodynamics etc? I didn't.

RandomTrollAccount 1 week ago
@RandomTrollAccount Let me guess, umm, you're american, right? Have you ever thought that maybe not everything is able to be explained with the science that is currently available? Clearly not, and maybe you should factor that 'theory' into your studies so you won't be so quick to believe everything that's rammed into your every orifice. Not everything is able to be explained just now, it may take some time for logical and legitimate answers to be found, not just because they fit the equation.

RandomTrollAccount 1 week ago
@RandomTrollAccount Comprehension is a skill you have not yet learnt. americans are known world-wide for being fed lies and false information and not asking questions, just believing what they're told, because 'no way would those in any position of authority or power do or say anything to upset the status quo or put their 'great' nation into jeopardy'. The Lusitania, The Bay of Tonkin, 9/11, there's 3 examples of you guys believing what the media and authorities tell you. Ask questions. "TOPIC"
Bumcrumpets 1 week ago
@ThunderMagi Thank you thank you thank you, someone who really understands this whole damn debate. Have you noticed each side is ready to disprove each other's side but not prove their own? Discrediting someone else doesn't make your idea more feasible. Neither are proven. Bible says nothing about dinosaurs or fossils, but how can science determine what an animal ate, looked like, what kind of skin / feathers / scales it had or what colour it was based on finding a leg bone? Both have flaws.
Bumcrumpets 1 week ago
@Bumcrumpets sit down little one. Science uses this wonderful thing called inference. We see their sharp teeth! Oo scary! they must have eaten meats! We have fossilized poop with bones inside! Eww, i know right? We have animals that are similar structurally today, so we think they might look similar on the outside as well. crazy, right? We have done this with planet finding, DNA, and electronics. it's worked out pretty well so far. now off to bed little guy. so adorable...
RandomTrollAccount 1 week ago
@RandomTrollAccount So these scientists use assumption to quantify their alleged findings? Awesome, so profound. So we share similar body physics and characteristics with dolphins, does that mean we cam from dolphins? Same with monkeys. No it doesn't. And if we evolved from apes, why are there still apes? Surely they would've "evolved". Didn't scientists also say the world was going to fall apart at the turn of the century? What happened? NOTHING!!! WAY TO GO SCIENCE.
Bumcrumpets 1 week ago

You can't argue with people who have already decided, before the conversation has even started, that anything you say is intrinsically wrong. These people don't use logic in the same way that normal people do, they abuse, pervert, and fetishise it into contrived game of confirmation bias.

It's probably a lot of Southern types, but also a LOT of people from urban areas who are black/latino because the education in those areas SUCKS. A lot probably haven't heard of evolution.
beigelycheenut 3 weeks ago
@beigelycheenut It's a gallup poll, you can visit your website. 46% (might be down to 44 this year) believe the earth is less than 10000 years old and every animal appeared fully formed. A further 35-40% believe the earth is old, but a supernatural force guided evolution in some shape or form, referred to as "theistic evolution". The rest (10-15%) accept "naturalistic evolution", ie no intervention, science based evolution. I know, its shocking, but it is what it is
CrystalEye736 3 weeks ago
@CrystalEye736 Well I'm not shocked at that either. I don't really blame religion as much as I blame the shitiness of the school system. Test scores are about the same as they were in the 50s while the budget has ballooned. I'm not against unions, but the way the teachers' union works there is to encourage mediocrity because you can't really reprimand teachers for incompetence once tenured.

@Mogley52 I'll be reading your articles and progressively post my rebuttals on my blog. You can find the links in the video description.

Mogley52 3 weeks ago
NATURAL SELECTION IS NO BLIND WATCHMAKER because it can only "select" traits, not produce them. If a variation survives, that's called being "selected." Natural selection operates only once there is life and reproduction, not before, so it couldn't have been involved in life's origins. A partially-evolved cell (an oxymoron) would quickly disintegrate. It couldn't wait ("survive") millions of years for chance to complete it and then make it alive!

But aren't I already if I even mention the possibility of a Creator?
helio295 3 weeks ago
@helio295 none of that actually addresses the issue of teaching things that are not science in the science classroom.
To address your comment, the watch analogy is a very famous one, although a false one also. Swiss watches cannot selfreplicate in any way, which is why they are not a good analogy of complexity that we see in life. For a very thorough breakdown of this fallacy I suggest The Blind Watchmaker, although The Greatest Show on Earth is better for those that arent scientists
CrystalEye736 3 weeks ago
@CrystalEye736 - Would you accept this? What if we take the pieces of a brand new Chevrolet Camaro, put them in a big box and shake them up. What are the chances that it will come out a fully functioning automobile? My guess is you will not accept this analogy either. That's okay.
helio295 3 weeks ago
@helio295 That's another very famous one actually, it's called the Boeing fallacy, also addressed in the Greatest Show On Earth. It is based on the supposition that evolution is based solely on random chance, which it is not. It is a combination of random mutation and the completely NONrandom process of natural selection. So yes, it is also a false analogy, because it is based on a misunderstanding of how evolution works
CrystalEye736 3 weeks ago
@CrystalEye736 Science cannot teach about how life started either base only on theory how life was started, because no one ever succeed to reproduce the zap of lighting into primordial soup and created life. Thus, that theory is only an assumption, much like creationist assume there is a Creator.
The alternative is to inform both versions and let further generation continue to seek out the real truth.
cycletrade 3 weeks ago
@cycletrade while there is far more evidence for abiogenesis than there is for creationism (and there is plenty of evidence that directly contradicts Judeo-Christian creationism), this has nothing to do with evolution. Evolution does not deal with the origins of the universe or the origins of life. That is a common misconception enthusiastically spread by creationists simply because abiogenesis is a younger field than evolution, which they see as more vulnerable
CrystalEye736 3 weeks ago
@CrystalEye736 Evolution that are mostly observed in microorganism are hardly fact of evolution much less fact for abiogenesis. Science deals on repeatable testing of hypothesis. Abiogenesis has not move more than a hypothesis. Little micro evolution also not a fact that life were not created. The problem with atheist is while knowing that science are still progressing, they use even hypothesis to call it facts that there is no creator.
cycletrade 3 weeks ago
@cycletrade apart from the problem creationsists seem to have with proper grammar, what you said is false. No scientist ever says that there is evidence that there is no creator, for the simple fact that it's logically impossible to prove a negative. All they say is that there are natural mechanisms by which life can come about without the need of a creator, which is an entirely different story. Either way this video is about evolution, not abiogenesis, which are 2 seperate fields
CrystalEye736 3 weeks ago
@helio295 what you are uttering here is called the "watchmaker argument" , which is non-sense, a watch is not a creation, but the assembly of different pre-existent matter such as metals and plastic, neither of wish are living entitites and hence not subject to natural selection.

Normally, we tend to align our state of existence with a pre-supposition of reason, and thought. Some believe there's a reason for everything that exists. That's what most creation myths are centered on. So, I understand the need to believe that everything exists and happens due to reasons and intentions.
As for evolution, it's still a theory, just like creationism. The difference? Evolution backed up by science, creationism backed up by faith.
mocurio 3 weeks ago
It takes more faith to believe in nothing than it does Someone. People do not want to believe in God because that would make them subservient to God. Granted, the nice people in Georgia shown in the video are not the best example of true Christian love. But there are high-educated Ph. D.'s from state-funded universities of have very strong Creationist beliefs. in the end, it comes down to a matter of faith.
helio295 3 weeks ago
@helio295 no, it comes down to a matter of evidence, logic and science. Creationism is founded on none of those things, which is why it has no place in the science classroom. This is not about believing in a God, it is about teaching only science (and not faith) as science. What you believe at home or what church you go to after school has no bearing on that.
CrystalEye736 3 weeks ago

@MrKGatl Actually, this is a little outdated. The stickers were removed a several years ago, although you can still feel the tacky residue on the front cover of our science books where the stickers were pasted. And I think the move to add Creationism to the curriculum was also defeated. No need to move.
