I seriously think Kerry and Dianne were the best pair! Dianne really hits what Glinda is to me: overstated but still sosososo reaaaaaaaaal. And Kerry... I just can't describe the utter fabulousity the Kerry was as Elphaba!

I like this version and Kerry has a beautiful, pure voice but I feel that it lacks something. For me, Elphaba has to have an attitude of defiance and i just don't see this in Kerry's face - but it could just be this performance and this is only my opinion. I agree that she has a beautiful voice but I don't think she is the best Elphaba. To be honest I don't think anyone can ever beat the original but Rachel Tucker and Nikki Davis Jones do almost as good a job as Idina

See, I only saw Kerry twice, and she was great. But from what I can gather from the audios, Kerry's singing was at its best here in the early London, but then wasn't quite as strong in the Broadway and later London days (apart, of course, from her AMAZING last performance).
But at the same time, her acting got muuuuuch better! Like here, her facial expressions are quite ... well, unchanging :/
She is an awesome performer though. I'm hoping to see her as Nancy soon.
Kelly is the best Elphaba by far. Idina is only put before her all the time because she the original. I love Idina but hoenstly, Kelly is so much better. <3
But somehow I've got the feeling she doesn't really give everything. I mean noone knows better than me how demanding it is to have 8 performances week but I think she could be even better if she would give 100 %.
Don't understand me wrong even when she's giving only 70% she is still better than many other Elphabas.
@zuponafe She had so many vocal issues going all out early in her first run that she and the musical director decided it would be better if she scaled it back a bit, and obviously they worked on how to sing with a more protective tone. That could have effected the presentation, especially since earlier on her speaking sounded more passionate as well. Sometimes when you scale back the singing, you inadvertently affect the performance.
Kerry Ellis is very much so the best Elphaba! I saw her live and she was absolutely AMAZING. Probably the most legit goose bumps in my live. I wish they would release a London recording with her so I don't have to listen to Idina.
i kinda disagree she doesnt mover her face that much and the first time i watched this i thought it was quite wooden in the face, but when i watched it again i really think it works, its very subtle and most of the movement in her face comes when in this video it is hidden under the hat, but i think she displays the emotions well but just subtely

The thing with Kerry, is that her voice expresses ABSOLUTELY all her feelings with such a strength that I (practically) never heard in all other singers.
Okay, maybe her acting was not at her best on this video, but it improved a lot with time (just watch the expressions on her face during this song on her first Broadway show).
And I got to see her on her very last show (9th of May), and she was just ... wow !

I disagree. I think that Alexia would suit Glinda vocally better than Elphaba. Her voice is really soft and light and she is apparently a skilled opera star. She has perfect pitch but not enough power for my taste.

I like Kerry's voice but she doesn't have enough facial expressions and this Glinda's voice is kind of obnoxious. I like my "Local Actors" and the original Broadway cast. This just MY opinion.
Our "local" Elphaba (not going to throw names and start another argument) is just so much more animated, sneering, and emotional in her face and gestures.

i kinda disagree she doesnt mover her face that much and the first time i watched this i thought it was quite wooden in the face, but when i watched it again i really think it works, its very subtle and most of the movement in her face comes when in this video it is hidden under the hat, but i think she displays the emotions well but just subtely

Kerry has a nice voice but she seemed too perky in the beginning and then emotionless. When she said fly i thought to myself "She's trying too hard" and then the rest was nice singing but very bland. She is kerry who played Elphaba. Idina was Elphaba

Her acting has room to improve... LOTS of room. But her voice is absolutely stunning. I think my favorite elphaba is Donna vivino.

@JBLoveSong i can see where your coming grom but in all fairness her voice does the singing and expression for her just listen to that growl its incredible her aura and acitng career in wikced and now in oliver is just incredible and also the apollo victoria theatre is the second biggest theatre in london even biggert hen the palladium and thats huge but the apollo victoria theatre is vast and when i went it was gigantic no joke so its hard to get facial expressions to be seen so her voice acts!

When she acts she diesn't move her face... You can't deny it after watching that, she wasn't amazing when I saw her and I don't like that glinda. The best London pair is alexia khadime and dianne pilkington !! But you can't beat Idina and Kristen, they worked for three years to evolve these characters and make them what they are!! Amazing x

@LetMeBeTrades :O IT IS! She was much better when I saw her :/ Maybe she is having an off day here :S Kerry Ellis is GOOD vocally but she shows NO EMOTION! I love her and she was a great Elphaba but the others I have seen were better :/ I don't know maybe she was cold and couldn't move her face :P

I feel her acting is so underrated. She acts honestly and beautifully, and i feel she is possibly the most talented person i have ever met. I never saw her as elphaba but saw her as nancy and met her after the show and got a photo. shes such a sweetie. and if anyone thinks her acting is wooden, i geniunley recommend you see her as nancy, cos she acts her little socks off and is incredible! :)

The thing with Kerry, is that her voice expresses ABSOLUTELY all her feelings with such a strength that I (practically) never heard in all other singers.
Okay, maybe her acting was not at her best on this video, but it improved a lot with time (just watch the expressions on her face during this song on her first Broadway show).
And I got to see her on her very last show (9th of May), and she was just ... wow !

I disagree. I think that Alexia would suit Glinda vocally better than Elphaba. Her voice is really soft and light and she is apparently a skilled opera star. She has perfect pitch but not enough power for my taste.

I like Kerry's voice but she doesn't have enough facial expressions and this Glinda's voice is kind of obnoxious. I like my "Local Actors" and the original Broadway cast. This just MY opinion.

She sounds great, but she just looks... bored.
Our "local" Elphaba (not going to throw names and start another argument) is just so much more animated, sneering, and emotional in her face and gestures.
I just like more theatrics in my theater.
