Well, they had to. If they said they preferred our original motto ("E Pluribus Unum", replaced by "In God We Trust" in 1957), the election would simply come down to a referendum on that one trivial issue.
I, for one, would love to get rid of it. It's a slogan that does not apply to everyone. Aside from that, it's unconstitutional for the federal government to endorse a diety or religion, and by proclaiming its people's faith in God, they do just that. If you want to agrue from plurality, why not make it read "We're all white"? About the same size group would be represented. But people would take offense to that, right? I take offense to my government proclaiming my belief in Christianity.
Don't use the "Bush-Hillary Travel Company" because they don't do any return flight planning. You will find yourself stuck in Iraq, your kids are being killed and "Bush-Hillary Travel" failed to arrange for your return! They don't plan or even read the intelligence, they simply AUTHORIZE one-way trips to Iraq! OBAMA '08 for RESPONSIBLE Leadership!!!
This current war is about the Zionists wiping out TWO of their most hated enemies in one fell swoop, the Aryans and the Arabs. As well as creating a Greater Israel in the process.
They care not who dies or how many, Black, white, latino, asian. We are all goy to them. They look unto us like we are animals, force us to fight each other by forcing us to live amongst each other in the name of diversity, and by sending out children off to die fighting their wars
I have no problem if the president is religious, as long as that does not cloud your judgment and make you do things you might otherwise not do, fine. But I think him openly saying it like this is a sign that he is very religious, and that sometimes leads to bad decisions
Totally irrelevant. Don't let them distract you with this bullshit. Stopping all the damn wars we are into, securing our border and shutting down the IRS and stopping the Federal Reserve from inflating the money supply are whats important at the federal level. Not gay marriage or whats written on a quarter.
The question is a good one. In England in a courtroom we sometimes take an oath and god is important. In the USA the problem of oaths and telling the truth seems not as important. I emigrated from England to Eire and freedom is much better here as well.
If you want a somewhat concise history on religions and how they have affected our world you should read "god is not great: How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchens. Pretty scary stuff.
According to the Dept. of the Treasury, the motto was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War. Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase received many appeals from devout persons throughout the country, urging that the United States recognize the Deity on United States coins.

Idiots like you have no understanding of American history. "In god we trust" is not the slogan of the USA. Idiots like you are so stupid, you would never have allowed Thomas Jefferson to be president, even though he wrote our declaration of independence.
Why does the title of this video say, "In G-d we trust."? Is "God" profanity? I didn't think so. I don't know the intent behind that, but that's stupid. God. Oops, I said it.

You can be religious or spiritual and not let it affect your judgement concerning the social advancement of our nation. i think these religious people are scary because they believe in a supernatural being because a book full of contradictions and wild fantasys told them so. GUllible, the lot of them
that is a hilarious statement that is not very well thought out. The bible has tons of contradictions. You either have nto bothered to read the whole thing or did not understand what you were reading. I would be happy to provide you proof, if you can accept it with an open mind.

fair enough. I can see where you'd think that. let me put it this way. You said it was written by several people. I can agree to this. But you cannot tell me who they were cause no one knows. none of the NT even started showing up until more than 40 yrs after jesus death. So if I point out a contradiction in the bible will you recind your statement ?
LOL. that is funny. eh, use one of the many free online bibles. but then the problem occurs that you will have to pick one version over another. hmmm, already proving my point. different bibles different messages
exactly. just the fact that there are multiple version ofthe bible with different and sometimes oppossing theology proves my point that there are contradictions and that the bible is NOT infallible :-)
Look you all are on the wrong track with this question of infallibility. You want to demonstrate the validity of God or what is termed his "word" (cause it's not the bible in it's TRANSLATED form) study the universe with no assumptions and you will reach some interesting paradoxes. Read Johannes Kepler's NEW ASTRONOMY and WORLD HARMONIES. Put the talk to rest cause things that you all talk about can not be resolved by just talking, you have to do some hard grueling work!
lol n4rut4rd should probably come up with a better way to explain Christianity instead of using exclusion. plus technically you don't have to be christian-you just have to have a personal relationship with God...

I'll tell you what those words mean to me. They mean some bullshit that was added to our money in violation of our constitution in the fifties as anti-soviet propaganda. Get rid of it, it's unamerican.
The phrase "separation of church and state" does not appear in the Constituion. The first amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". You have the right to believe that a phrase on a coin is the government's way of telling you to worship God. I may or may not be religious, but the money doesn't matter. I cannot understand why this bothers people. Take care........
How bout we just change it to in "god we don't trust"? Would that offend you?
By the way that phrase is from Thomas Jefferson's writings and has been used by the Supreme Court(the official interpreters of the constitution) to determine intent. Precedent is on my side here.
It wouldn't offend me whatever was on the money, so long as it still was "legal tender". The "we" in "In God We Trust" is the American people. "We allowed our government to put the phrase on the coin because we trust in God. If "we" decide that is no longer the case, then it should be changed. But I believe that most Americans still have that trust, and you are free to try to change their minds.
Let's start with you then. I would encourage you to start asking questions about the rationality and plausibility of the idea of a god. Just start googling all the arguments are out there. The information is at your fingertips and I'm confident if you an an open minded and logical human being you'll come to the same conclusion I have. Please seriously, do look into it. Thank you.
Dude, I'm not sure myself. I just, as I've stated, think it's not a big deal. You think that is a violation of the church/state thing. You may be right. But currently most people don't agree with you. That said, calling it "bullshit" and saying it is "anti-soviet propaganda" may not be the best way to persuade others to join your cause. And it's good to be was good to be anti-soviet, wasn't it? Take care....

first, FUCK is just a word that gets liberals and sensitive wussies attention, worked on you, and second, I NEVER take the Lord's name in vain, NEVER! You dont know anything about my faith!
Our constitution isn't just what's written on that document and its amendments. It's also 200+ years of legal precedent. That phrase may not appear there, but the Court has certainly upheld that separation is a constitutional facet. Also, many of the members of the Constitutional Congress and early presidents wrote about the need for a separation and how it influenced their decision making. So no, it may not be written on the parchment, but it is a constitutional issue.
moron, how much more explicit can the constitution make it? putting god on a quarter respects any religion that has a god as its centerpiece. What if im buddhist? what if i believe in many gods? what if im atheist? Then that coin doesnt respect the establishment of my religion (or lack thereof). The phrase on that coin respects the establishment of monotheistic religion, and therefore violates the constitution.
We do not need religion to subscribe our morality. Western European nations being more nontheistic than the U.S. has a far better human rights record and gives more to charity per capita than the U.S. It is a violation of church and state for that phrase to be carved on our money.
"The only difference between God and Adolph Hitler is that God is more proficient at genocide."
