Hey bro , i can see your a pro and all and those are very expensive guitars.
If it were me, they either be on a stand or back in a case. you are a braver man than me sir. (I hope the floor has carpet at least. ) great demo, finally some logical insight.
Just love your videos. l own a Lefty 6120 SSU Brian Setzer model. My Gretsch has incredible flame maple, with TV Jones Classic PAF pups, and pinned bridge. Try this setup should you ever get the chance: Keeley Boss Blues Driver BD-2, Stereo Chorus, THD Bivalve Tube Class A 30 watt head (w/Hot Plate engaged), 2x12 slant front cab. If you want to get the Pete Townshend sound and tones from Quadrophenia and Who's Next albums, then the 6120 SSU Brian Setzer Gretsch is THE guitar believe me.
Hey Carl, I've got the G5120 model and replaced the pups with TV Jones Classics. I"ve never played a 6120 but I figure the tone on my 5120 now comes close enough. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.
hi Paul - another good question, well as youve probably seen from some of the live playing vids on my channel, you'll have noticed that i really hit the strings hard at times, in fact i wack em and my hand kept catching the pick guard, so i took it off, purely my own choice & reasons. Although my sslvo hasnt any flame on its top, if you got a lot of flame in the maple top, it seems a shame to cover it
@SETZERSGRETSCH Hi Man. I think Brian Setzer removes his pickguards too, doesn't he? Finally paid mine off! She's in my hot little hands after a few months of saving. Thanks for the demos and encouragement to get one. Some have TV Jones Classics, but some earlier ones have different ones (filtertrons?). You'd have to pull them out to check the back. Pat no is the same on the front. Sounds great through your Marshall. Rock on!
Hi there, thnaks for your question. The other switch which actually comes fitted with the guitar (known as the mud switch) provides a sound thats very muddy ! a good comparison would be to play a les paul and turn off all the tone controls on the guitar, and thats what it sounds like. its meant for Jazz style players of the late 50's who wanted a mellow sound but not much use to the modern style player. hope this helps. regards Carl
In one of carl's videos, he shows what it sounds like. Just watch each one. Yes you could get one added, but Brian Setzer actually has his floating loose in the body with just the hole left there when you see his shows, so he obviously doesn't use it.
Great vid, but it's funny when you said that the Brain Setzerin tangerine orange - because of the lighting they all looked a bit orange. Maybe at least temporarily a little more light to show off the grain on these bad boys. Kudos I'm thinking of getting the Jap model.
Hi there and thanks for your comments. Yes the lighting was a bit dull, but it seemed ok when i was filming, so sorry bout that. The Tribute & SSLVO models are tangerine orange, but the SSU is more of a red colour. Any Gretsches are excellent, so go get one buddy - You wont be disappointed & happy rockin'
The SSU has a tiger-like stripey look too. Probably flamed maple or something. Surprisingly, they aren't solid tops. I don't know if any Gretsches are. Seems if you had the choice the SSLVO would be the better one, even though I'm getting the SSU because that's the only one I CAN get.
You'll love the SSU. I'm doing a mud switch demo for you tonight, so while ive got the SSU out, i'll do some close ups and details for you. The SSU is a great guitar
Ha Ha....... this is totally BRILLIANT. I love your videos. you really show us all the versatility of these awsome guitars. I have an SSU model which I got earlier this year and it is of course, my favourite thing. I will most certainly sit back with a few beers and watch the rest of this series.
Hey thanks for your kind comments buddy, im pleased you enjoyed them, it was fun to do and hopefully educational to all non Gretsch players who now know a lil more of what Gretsch guitars are all about. Keep rockin with your SSU. kindest regards
1:20 ROTFL. Awesome man, what a showman. You've reminded me why I love ROCK AND ROLL. Good news is I'm getting the SSU. You've got the spirit of rock, man. Thanks for posting :-)
Hey thanks buddy - I just really get into playing and lose myself sometimes, punters have come up after a show and often say you look like you were on another planet - I just say - I was !

Why did you remove the pickguard from the SSLVO?
