This is one of the classiest sign offs ever. I live in Deltona, and I had the same thing going. I have watched other Analog sign-offs and most of the anchors in other stations were treating it like if it's the New Year's or something. WFTV has always been my favorite station and this is another reason why.
Nice sign-off, why can't TV stations here do something similar for digital switchover?
Looks like 1:08 was the switch being flicked, then it took a few seconds for the capacitors (to keep it going in case of power glitches) to discharge before the signal completely went off.
@disneyfan85 This was recorded in Winter Park ... my guess is that maybe they were lowering power on their analog transmitter, possibly causing it to be black and white where I was receiving and recording it. There is another post on YouTube where it is seen in color. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
And so, an era of television broadcasting has come to an end. Albeit rather short, it was done very well. Even though the signal was powered down, it was very appropriate that this was shown in glorious B&W. And the WLOF cat was a very nice touch. But most appropriately, was the way the station faded away. Beautiful end to, what will be, a bygone era.
Thank you, Gladfan! I agree with you completely ... I wish that more stations showed the respect and class that WFTV did in remembering their past, and how it was in the beginning. Heck, I would have been happy if some of them just ran a simple sign-off announcement rather than just dumping the carriers. Thank you for the comments!
They added the WLOF cat to the sign off, which is very unusual for COX to do so, since they bought Channel 9 from the original owners. Noted at the 10-11 second mark, after the ID like the beginning of General Hospital, but for a fraction of a second. Great job with the analog sign off!
Very well done, WFTV. Two thumbs up! Maybe someone with technical knowledge could explain why the sign-off apparently was in color in some portions of the viewing area and in black-and-white in others.
As far as the black and white goes, I recorded the DTV show that WFTV started at 12:30, and most of that was in color ... then at about 12:50, there was a gradual increase in the noise in the signal and the color went away ... I figured that maybe they were reducing output power on analog channel 9. I was also using an outdoor antenna with a pre-amp in Winter Park.
The color portion of the signal is overlaid on top of the black-and-white signal. This means that if you are viewing at a distance, you might only receive the B&W image without any color.
In some cases, if you're really distant, you might only hear the audio but see no video.
spooky cat ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Why'd you cut it off at 1:25? They just started playing one of my favorite episodes of Candle Cove at 1:20...

Very impressive, especially considering they didn't do an anniversary special last year.

The slow fade was very nice, like an old TV switching off.

12:59? That must've been the start of "All My Children".

It was in color for me using an outdoor antenna and pre-amp in Lake Mary, I recorded it as well, but it was deleted it by mistake.
