  • ITV, when telly was any good!!!

  • You're nicked you slag!

  • Love The Sweeney and Minder, Not really into The Professonals. ITV4 later also added Auf Wiedersehen Pet to there Cult Classics.

  • This when us men had high testoserone, now where being brainwashed by the political correct left who what us to be metrosexual, the political correct have messed the minds of lot of young men if a political correct person try to argue that that men woman are the same just show them a image brain scan of the average male brain and female brain the stucture in many area are vastly different the stucture is different in men becose of exposure to high levels of testoserone as developing fetus

  • Why don't they show The Sweeney on ITV4 AFTER Emmerdale!

  • Everything became a little too politically correct basically.

Some of the stuff TV used to get away with in the 70's was cringe-worthy by today's standards but the one-liners were legendary.

Cop shows back then were all about hard as nails maverick cops with devil may care attitudes.

    Absolutely brilliant.

  • @ecurl absolutely right !!!

i'm not against remakes , the odd one works like the 1982 scarface remake ..........but the sweeney ?

it will be a complete disaster..........without all the un-pc it will not be the sweeney.............

the straw dogs remake is getting slated..............do movie producers ever learn their lesson ?

ray winstone is a hypocrite to say how he admires john thaw...........not very much it seems , he is saying that john thaw was crap and he can do better.....

  • @back2steel2 I agree. I believe the remake will be a disaster although I will go and watch it. 'The Sweeney,' was a product & reflection of the times during which it was made. It reflected the 70's style robust of policing. I fail to see how the modern PACE hamstrung, watered down PC policing style can be successfully translated into, 'The Sweeney,' that we know & love. Superb as Winstone is as an actor, Thaw would leave him standing. He was totally convincing as Regan. Thaw = YODA!

  • 0:48 Flairs so big that you can trip up shlegs with them. Those were the days.

  • Sweeney's my last name ! :D

  • Gene Hunt and the Life on Mars/Ashes To Ashes mob have nailed this 70s/80s cop show to a tee.Fucken hilarious.

  • i want that escort rs2000

  • I miss that TV era. I mean UK was producing great TV shows. What happened after? Why you lost all your talent and now we have to warch only american crap!

  • Why didn't the Beastie Boys use this film for their video?

  • Watch The Professionals now and it's like a spoof of a 70s show, the absurd macho posturing, one dimensional villains and ridiculous plotlines like German freedom fighters inexplicably attempting to assassinate Arab leaders in Britain make it hilarious.

  • @flaxonx3 Still far superior to most of todays stuff

  • @flaxonx3 Rather watch absurd macho posturing & 3 litre S Capris getting thrashed, than the insipid, PC drivel we have to tolerate today. NO female bosses, NO ambigious characters with doubts about their sexuality, NO hair gel, or designer suits, NO front wheel drive hot hatchbacks! Just good old fashioned bank blags, RWD car chases & spankings for villains. QUALITY.

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH Im with you on this.. :-)

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH The Sweeney still holds up brilliantly today, great acting and scripts with believable characters. The Professionals though watchable isn't in the same league.

  • That's a good night on the telly then.

  • put `em away loe and put your trousers on son,yer nicked!

  • one of my favorite regan quotes was "he's been getting in to trouble since he was old enough to sit on a pub step"

  • Haha Beastie Boys, Fits The Sweeney Nicely

  • I read somewhere that there will be a new Sweeney movie and that Ray Winstone will play Jack Regan. I would have thought Philip Glenister would be a better choice since he played a similar character in Life on Mars.

  • Harriet Harman should be nailed to a stripclub wall & forced to watch this clip over & over again!

  • Anyone know who this performs this track?

  • @Lexon351 It's Sabotage by the Beastie Boys, innit. The video was a take on 70s US cop shows.

  • Regan and Carter, Bodie and Doyle, What more could you want! Classic TV from times when the licence fee was worth paying. Today's "reality" programming is nothing short of shite.

  • @Fenner1976 SO TRUE!

  • Remember watching all of these the first time round as a preteenager. They just seemed so edgey and realistic, back then. Some have aged better than others, but it's nice to see all the old cars and fashions and also actors when they were in their younger days.

  • Thanks so much, I loved this trail came on here to see if anyone had it and here it is :D

  • Can you imagine watching anything that's on now in 30 years time! It's amazing how well these shows have dated. If anything, the 70s and 80s backdrops and cars only add to the charm. Far better than anything now trying hard to recreate a previous era. Definitely the golden age of television. George Cole is an absolute legend, as are Dennis Waterman, Lewis Collins and John Thaw.

  • @minderfan Agree entirely. The 1970's-early 80's was set a Gold Standard for television, which will never be matched or surpassed. 'The Sweeney,' was gritty, very realistic in it's portrayal of the style of policing, & also the level of violence. Regan & Carter are the most realistic portrayal of Police officers to date. Whilst 'The Professionals' was fiction, & not nearly as sophisticated in it's plots as Sweeney, it was 'proper blokes' television. Capris, RS2000's & air hostesses by the dozen!

  • ITV4 has to be the best channel in the world with shows like Minder, The Sweeney and The Professionals. I only wish I was a bit older when these shows were first on! They just don't make them like this anymore!

I wouldn't call them 'cult classics' though as that suggests something a bit weird only a few people like! Surely everyone loves these shows! Far, far, far better than the rubbish reality or Graham Norton/Paul O Grady fronted crap we endure these days!

  • @minderfan. Inspector Lewis and Wallander are good ITV stuff too.

  • @1977Melville Hardly.

  • Good old days

  • This is even better if you see the music video for this song.

  • The looks on their faces at 0.36 is fantastic. Real men, real sexism - marvellous!

  • Superb!!

  • the good old days when coppers on the street nicked villans, not spend hours doing paperwork in triplicate like they do today

  • @britstarfan thats true they spend hours in class rooms learning how to be PC !?

  • "We're the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner"...they just don't write 'em like that any more.

  • @blagger56 life on mars-Gene Hunt

  • @gonecddm Hunt is a mere faxsimile of DI Jack Regan, the latter would have sorted Hunt out in a scrap in ten seconds flat! Hunt is funny, Regan is the real deal hardnut. I mean, he had DS Carter-hard as nails, as his oppo. Hunt has Ray- who looks like an extra out of a Village People video! Let's not even mentions milksop Chris!! lol

  • @blagger56 It would be "Lunch" today... ha ha

  • spot the austin princess @ 0:15. im surprised the fence didnt break the car lol

  • @twistedsistaqteu Thx, your comment really made me laugh.

  • @twistedsistaqteu Oi you, dont be knocking the Princess, i drove ten up home from the boozer one night in one of those old workhorses. Jacked it up the next day and the rear wheel fell off. They dont make them like that no more........thank fuckin' god ;o) lol
