It's entirely natural for domesticated humans to anthropomorphize animals. Humans by nature are associative thinkers. Thought by association is what brought about modern civilization. Of course there are drawbacks much like intelligence have drawbacks, but would it be any better to have wild, violent and savage humans that were around say 10,000 years ago?
Actually this reminds me of Moving Pictures (a Discworld novel) Stuff like this happened, some animals started finding themselves talking and acting like cartoons, and some of them had a real problem with it. a dog suddenly found out he was eating red stuff rather than the the grey stuff he always saw, and a cat suddenly had a concience about eating screaming fish.
anthropomorphism was one of the spelling words i had in third grade... i was the only one to get 100% on that spelling test
