...And this is what happens you put a take-no-shit lawyer up against a Fox News anchor armed with nothing but anti-equality talking points and bumper-sticker slogans.
There's a reason why Fox News doesn't do this very often.
Wow Wallace embarrassed himself so badly... he's getting gradually more and more nervous and angry lol... at least Fox News finally produced something entertaining to watch without being a mockery material.
This is what happens when Fox News solicits actual debate. They get destroyed. Chris Wallace nervously went all over the place; judicial activism, abortion, etc.
The fact that Ted Olson said such beautiful words makes me actually believe there may be more Republicans who genuniely support the Constitution.
I agree with zzfour...Wallace got completely owned in this. It's nice to see a Republican actually support gay marriage, or the constitution, for that matter.
I love when Wallace asks, "Where is the right to same-sex marriage in the Constitution?" It was like watching a baseball pitched right down the middle of the plate that you just know will result in a home run.
@ShaunaDDye you're a fucking idiot. There is no 'sanctity of marriage' or else there wouldn't be divorce. The bible may say homosexuality is bad, but it ALSO says divorce is bad. And with the divorce rate over 50%, I really don't really wanna hear any bullshit about the sanctity of marriage.
i am so glad you posted this. it was incredible to watch this staunch conservative support the entire process of repealing prop 8, in the language of conservatism. wow.
1. prop 8 backers have no rational basis for denying same-sex marriage.
2. marriage itself, is a conservative value. allowing gays to marry - to "domesticate" - would be a societal benefit.
3. if marriage is recognized by law as a fundamental/equal right, how does a gay person access that? they either have to do without, or live a lie and inevitably hurt their future opposite-sex spouse and kids.
4. tyranny by majority circumvents our system's checks and balances.
@freaaa1 Based on his arguments, doesn't a polygamist have the same right to marry those who he/she chooses? Does a person have the right to marry an animal?
Of course there is moral reasoning in the law... does a murderer have the right to murder because it makes him/her happy? Of course not, because life has inherent value that comes from God, not from society.
Expect judgement from God on a country that kills its unborn and doesn't recognize the sanctity of marriage.
Polygamist, I'd say potentially so, but not definitely. Polygamy is illegal because of its past history of subjugating women, the same way owning a nuclear warhead is illegal, in spite of the 2nd amendment protecting the right to bear arms.
Marrying an animal is of no relevance because it cannot give consent nor does it have legal rights.
Our society is based on ethics--don't harm others--so there's no comparison to murder. Morals have always been subjective.
@ShaunaDDye If you are going to legalize polyamorous marriages, you are going to have to first legalize Polygamy. Please note that Polygamy is illegal and Homosexuality is not. You can't marry an animal because the animal can't give verbal consent. A goat is more likely to eat a marriage license than sign it. Murder is illegal because it violates the rights of the victim. Oh, and it also kills them. This slippery slope argument is not going to work for you. It only validates your prejudice.
@ShaunaDDye The fact that you so easily compared your fellow gay and lesbian citizens to murderers, polygamists, and people who commit bestiality shows the compassion or lack thereof you have for this group. Saying things like this only exposes the truth on how high you place yourself above them. They are second-class to you. And don't mention God, you don't represent him or speak for him.
@akhan727 This DOES tend 2 reveal a lot about some people's attitude, doesn't it now? And, BTW, *polygamy* is Scripturally sound (!) depending on circumstances, ya RETARDS. (sorry couldn't help that right then)
@ShaunaDDye everyone should expect judgement from the Almighty. No one can be certain of their salvation.
Don't strive to love only the "right people". Knowledge of who that is is hidden from everyone. Love everyone. That's your safest bet. It's also happens to be what Jesus told us to do.
@ShaunaDDye one before you can bring up god in a grown up rational conversation you must demonstrate that he exists, not just assert that he dose. Second Human life dose not have an inherent value because your imaginary friend in the sky says so, humans inherently value human life, because we ARE ALL HUMAN, so of course we value our own existence. Murder is wrong because it hurts other people, gay marriage is not wrong because it hurts no one, see how morality really works, no god needed.
