This song grabs my heart with the long ,sharp , talaons only a great band has on its first album ,Kinda like "Make It " on Aerosmiths debut record ... ,a song that just has to show you a peak at the bands balls .... know what l mean ?
Am 23 first Album i ever owned was Cult Classic from 1994 which i got when i was 6 still have it and play it love this song so much, this version is the best but the updated 94 Sound is a little more bass heavy which is also sweet,
Remember seeing these guys playing in late seventy's. we had One huge concert around 79-80 BOC never made it to the stage. Due to a major monsoon storm we had in phx. but the show was awesome lighting flashing Thunder roaring all around us as the storm rolled in. it was also the very 1st lalaballooza concert which started at Compton Terrace phx az . by the time BOC was to come on stage it started to pour. but you couldn't ask for a better back drop that mother nature give us that night..
@banzaimotorcross ...yeah. I was there. It was Black and Blue tour. BOC and Black Sabbath...It was awesome. I ate too much LSD, I'm sure, Still I thought BOC did make it to the stage. It was black Sabbath that couldn't play.
This is a great jam. I have seen Cult live many times (in the 70s). Still, I don't understand why his heart is black and his lips are cold, who that girl is, and who is preventing her from rock and rolling, and where did the 3000 guitars come from? This band can flat out jam, but their lyrics are among the worst of any band I can think of.
@ampeguy Kind of like how i am mates and work with a Guy Called Steve Parkin who is known nationally in australia for pop music, Scott from Anthrax once came to my work wearing a Godzilla Shirt
lol when i first got this song on gh3 i'd play it everyday it's just so awsome easily the best song on Gh3 or pretty much any other guitar hero game..
@OffsidePick Yes! And theres a Deep Purple tune, the title escapes me, that is quite similar as well. Not that anyone ripped anyone else off with it, but I have noticed it over the years.
so, i'm 57...bought this lp when it 1st dropped in '72 & we played it nonstop, within 2 weeks was in a phone booth near the college and there was a poster saying BOC was playin in our town at electric park, small venue, easily one of the greatest concerts ever!!! @rdmmo Rock Band is a music game which has not featured any BOC music, It suits a wide variety of rock tastes and has not yet given in to the masses of pop music like Guitar Hero has, Officially, Rock Band is fine.
Must have been an amazing show, I wish I was born before my time, The only way we youngsters hear good music is through commercialisation.. I wish I could have just been around to see the band instead of just looking it up on youtube, Or seeing it on TV..
Saw BOC in 1973 open up for Slade at the old Academy of Music on 14th St in NYC, they did a splendid version of this song , the encore was Born to be Wild and this had to be the best 2 band concert I have ever seen...
southernman74 i was the same way, i couldnt believe this was blue oyster cult. I thought i knew every song too. Im a bigtime musician and i dont just passively listen to music. I got a copy of every song in my brain ever made i thought before this. I heard this randomly on a key west radio station and was completely curious. The drums and guitar in this song are so perfect. It took me like four months but i finally figured it out haha
Blue oyster cult is rock n roll. I have listened to them since i was born in '91 my dad raised me on this awesome band! Blue oyster cult is the shit. can i get a thumbs up or what?
@jenkay17 I was born in '91 too, but i've realized in the last like.... year, that this is the stuff i should've been listening to. lol. It's ten times better than what's playing on the pop and country stations these days.
@jenkay17 Your dad failed to raise you to not be a gigantic faggot dick sucker begging for thumbs up on Youtube. I will go back in time and remove your father's testicles and burn them you fucking faggot.
@jenkay17 Of course you can. 102 of them now to be exact. :-)
And BTW, 1991 was when I began seriously listening to BOC. I have since seen seen them in concert 3 times, met them backstage and even got 2 CDs signed by none other than Buck Dharma himself. The band is one of the greatest live bands ever, and Buck Dharma is a perfect gentleman. Plus, he still kicks major ass on guitar. :-)
@ericthacke well if it makes you feel better i just turned 39 and i thought i'd heard every old popular psychedelic song just about that had ever been recorded but i was pumping gas a while ago and heard this being piped in and was totally curious about it.i came home and typed in what i could make out of the lyrics on the shitty pa system and over the noise of traffic and a little bit of wind which was "my heart is black and my lips are cold," and voila through the magic of yahoo here i am.

@DarthKrattus Bet, 2 big thumbs up if you knew this band before 1975... I saw do a free concert in SD,CA in 1976 before they went hit making... S'all goooooood !!!
No, because then people know about great music through a fucking video game, not by buying records, seeing concerts, or listening to similar artists. It's highly annoying when you play a good song and then someone says "OMG THAT WAS ON ROCK BAND!!!1" and then they mime the fingerings and everything. It's too commercial IMO.
@DarthKrattus You're right, I'm going to stop telling my friends to listen to good music like BOC because hearing about them through Guitar Hero is awful. I'm going to recommend they give a Simple Plan or Ke$ha album a spin next time I see them. Thanks for the advice!
@DarthKrattus Which is why I offered to help commercialize some bad music so people can start listening to it. After all, you're going to need SOMEONE listening to Lady Gaga to make fun of next time you go to the mall lamenting they don't rock out to some good old David Gilmour (or someone like that, I just picked him cause he wasn't very popular back in the 70's either).
@420jim I saw them in Hollywood at the now long gone Starwood Club on Santa Monica Blvd/Cresent Heights in 1978. The club held around 200 fans, and I was in the very front with my arms resting on the stage and the lead singers mic stand between them. And yes, they went under the moniker of SWU. Saw Judas Priest there also the year before when they weren't very well known, met the band backstage, became friends, and still remain friends to this day, after all these years.
This is an old favorite I just played again. I don't remember noticing: Part of what makes it so cool is, That is Some Ass Kicking Bass. You can hear it best after 1:48 when the lead guitar is off doing its own thing.
all you people saying guitar hero is lame have probably never played it or only played it a couple times and sucked so you gave up. And im sure all of the bands with music on happy about it. that game has probably gotten thousands of kids interested in good music like this instead of lame rap. the more you know...
@Buttoomi i have played guitar hero and it does suck first off the stupid clicking sound wtf second you cant just play from sound you play by seeing your next stupid target thing try playing a real guitar if you think guitar hero is hard
@Buttoomi brother, i play both real guitar and guitar hero, yea, i admit guitar hero is hard, i gave up after a while cause i suck, but playing a real guitar is alot harder, and im getting fairly good at it. i almost gave up on tht too, if not for this song, this is the first song i ever was able to play almost, i first heard it when i was driving with my mom, and the guitar hero version isnt as good as this one.
@Dravius710 yeah man i hear you. i play real guitar too. for me, knowing how to play real guitar helps with playing guitar hero cuz i already have some good finger dexterity. i dont play guitar hero that much, i just happen to be really good at it. lol. im not defending the people that think theyre awesome cuz theyre good at it im just saying the game isnt as bad as some people think. and it probably inspires some kids to try picking up a real guitar.
guitar hero is for nerds im sure blue oyster cult isnt fond of people who say "i can play this on expert on guitar hero"... its really nothing to be proud of BOC FOREVER
@Resurrection010011: Yeah, although I wouldn't necessarily use the word nerd as it implies they have an intellect. There used to be a game back in the 70's called Simon says where you had to hit the colored lights in the right order in order to play the tune. It looked like something off an ELO album cover. The title of this track sounds like a Kiss anthem, but that's where the similarity ends.
@Resurrection010011: Yeah, although I wouldn't necessarily use the word nerd as it implies they have an intellect. There used to be a game back in the 70's called Simon Says where you had to hit the colored lights in the right order in order to play the tune. It looked like something off an ELO album cover. They need to learn to play a real guitar before they can earn bragging rights. Anyway, the title of this track sounds like a Kiss anthem, but that's where the similarity ends.
What is the album art supposed to be? It totally confuses me every time I see it. I thought it was a universe full of Wonkavators or something. Sweet though
as a guitarist and rocker for over 25 years i can say this song is one of the best for sheer fucking rock and rollbility, period.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw Judas Priest there also the year before when they weren't very well known, met the band backstage, became friends, and still remain friends to this day, after all these years.

This guitar riff sounds exactly like the riff from the beginning of Black Sabbath's The Wizard.

Buttoomi 1 year ago
@Buttoomi i have played guitar hero and it does suck first off the stupid clicking sound wtf second you cant just play from sound you play by seeing your next stupid target thing try playing a real guitar if you think guitar hero is hard
drakken885 1 year ago
@Buttoomi brother, i play both real guitar and guitar hero, yea, i admit guitar hero is hard, i gave up after a while cause i suck, but playing a real guitar is alot harder, and im getting fairly good at it. i almost gave up on tht too, if not for this song, this is the first song i ever was able to play almost, i first heard it when i was driving with my mom, and the guitar hero version isnt as good as this one.
Dravius710 1 year ago
@Dravius710 yeah man i hear you. i play real guitar too. for me, knowing how to play real guitar helps with playing guitar hero cuz i already have some good finger dexterity. i dont play guitar hero that much, i just happen to be really good at it. lol. im not defending the people that think theyre awesome cuz theyre good at it im just saying the game isnt as bad as some people think. and it probably inspires some kids to try picking up a real guitar.
Buttoomi 1 year ago
@Dravius710 this is one hell of song to be trying FIRST on a real guitar! This is pretty damn advanced dood, start with something simpler!

It's a shame you can't find such quality in the music nowadays...

What is the album art supposed to be? It totally confuses me every time I see it. I thought it was a universe full of Wonkavators or something. Sweet though
