I don't think WE should fight to give them rights when they did not ask us to fight for them.
Second, our country was created by those who responded to what they perceived as injustices. Should the Boston Tea Partyers have gone to Mexico if they didn't like British tax policy? Maybe those who wanted independence should have moved somewhere else? Dissent makes us stronger, not weaker, if we actually engage with it, because it is through that debate that (hopefully) the better evidenced argument wins. my family was pretty well off when i joined th army and during my basic training there was a guy who graduated harvard law school and was making a six figure salary befor he enlisted. Both of us enlisted because we wanted to serve our nation. There are people from all walks of life joining the military, some join for money, some for college money, others out of love for their country, and yes threr are people who join becouse they have no other option.

it's comments like this that exemplify why the war in Iraq is going so poorly. Iraq was not ruled by religious zealots. Saddam Hussein led the secularist Ba'ath Party. They believed in the SEPARATION BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE.
Women had to protest damn hard to get the vote in this country in 1920. Women in the US got property rights in the 1970s. We protested then too. Maybe we should have just left? We can fight to make this country better, or we can just buy into whatever we told.

I believe what you are referring to was the womens movement in the late 60's to 70's. Even then, would you have done that in, say Iraq? Nope, didn't think so. You missed my point. The women's movement started in the 19th century and culminated in 1920 with the passage of the 19th amendment giving women the vote. 40 years later, rights on paper did not translate into actual rights, and the second wave of the movement began. It wasn't until the 1970s that a woman could get a mortgage on her own, without her father (or another man) as a cosigner). I don't think WE should fight to give them rights when they did not ask us to fight for them.

Second, our country was created by those who responded to what they perceived as injustices. Should the Boston Tea Partyers have gone to Mexico if they didn't like British tax policy? Maybe those who wanted independence should have moved somewhere else? Dissent makes us stronger, not weaker, if we actually engage with it, because it is through that debate that (hopefully) the better evidenced argument wins. I hope the people of Iraq can sort out the political mess we brought through dialogue.

Hence, if he wouldnt have turned and started to run (well before he started "getting his ass kicked) he wouldnt have been put on the ground to begin with. Our President is right on with this point. Freedom isnt free. We have had to fight for freedom lots of times and the outcome has always been FREEDOM. There is always going to be people with opposition to the war, but the outcome if continued in the direction of freedom CAN result in war. We have had wars for freedom and this is a war for freedom of the Iraqi people and the well being of the rest of the world.
