Canada, as a whole, but Gander, in particular , kicked some SERIOUS butt! as far as being generous, goes! They make me so proud! Really, we (our country), landed dozens of planes, that were "designated", potentially, too dangerous, for the States. What would the alternative have been? Shoot them down, let them run out of fuel? NOT LIKELY! Canada has some incredibly BIG shoulders! It was our call, and OUR call, was to land them, and take our chances! I LOVE CANADA!
Anybody got more footage of all the planes landing? I only heard one report about 360 planes landing in 3 hours. That would be 1 per minute. I would like to see that. What organization that would take. I may be wrong about that amount, because I only heard 1 report about that part of 911.
I'm form L.I., N.Y., and I say, there are no better people than the people of Canada....Thank You Gander, and all of Canada for being such incredible neighbors!..You're the best!
What a terrific story! I'm not a big Tom Brokaw fan but I absolutely loved his piece on the good people of Gander Newfoundland that aired during the Olympics. Now if only I could find it online or archived somewhere so it can be shared with the people who missed it. It's too good to not be shared!
Fantastic, I actually knew that Gander had been so genraous in it's help when I watched another show about 911, but thanks Tom that was a great "documentary", and I loved it.
PLEASE post the whole thing. Am watching it now and it's one of the most compelling & touching stories I've ever seen. I want my children to see it and be inspired. I know I am.
caught the story on nbc today. it left me absolutely speechless. such kindness from the people of gander for so many people they'd never met... wow. in such a time of chaos during 9/11, what you did was outstanding. it was emotional but so touching...

This seems like a good place as any to remember the people of September 11th.
I'd also like to give a big thank you to the people of Gander.
You made being Canadian better.

Kinda looks like Brokaw got the Newfie welcome and got into the Screech, eh? I wonder if anybody has pics of him kissing the cod.

I'm glad Brokaw has recognized all the things we did for the US during 9/11. Bush barely mentioned our role.
