I remember when some high schoolers from Philadelphia made a car that was better than the volt and used the same principals which GM i guess felt so dumb not making themselves that they copied it. It a shame to see how pathetic some of the car companies are! At least its a step in the right direction to put the electric and Combustion engine in a series instead of being hooked up Parallel.

I don't think it's a scam. Hybrid cars are an intermediary step to a hydrogen or battery powered car. Hybrid cars are all about minimizing the use of fossil fuels. Hydrogen cars won't be available or affordable for many years, and battery powered cars are extremely expensive, take 5 - 6 hours to charge up, and have less range than a hybrid. Hybrids aren't that expensive, they can be bought brand new for under $20k.

Just to inform you hydrogen fuel is derived from crude oil. Those oil barons have a trillion dollars of black gold in the ground still. Electric is the way forward, but small capacity secondary back up engines to an electric battery is a step in the right direction.

Hydrogen is not derived from crude oil. It's derived from methane or water (as in H20). If you stick battery leads into water bubbles of hydrogen will come off of one and oxygen from the other. Electricity by itself is not feasible right now because our battery technology isn't mature enough.

Opel/Vauxhall is what GM sell in Europe and UK, so Opel cars are very similar to the GM stuff in USA.

Ford is not owned by GM...

This Opel Ampera looks sleek and nice, but it's a bit too much like Honda and Acura designers had a hand in its design. The rear lights look stylish while the rear bumper has a good touch of aggression. The interior looks fantastic to me.

But they have. This is just a re-badged Chevrolet Volt with a slightly different grille. The Volt was originally designed and built in the US, so we're just getting the Chevy version, and GM is selling the Volt through their European brands, Vauxhall (UK and Aus) and Opel(mainland Europe). I look forward to seeing this thing with a Chevy badge in about a year and a half.
