The best way of avoiding dislike for Cena is not to watch him too much. I would say The Rock v Cena is a hugely enjoyable conflict. Cena is part of that conflict, so by definition he is therefore tolerable, even if only to see the eventual pay off!

Um, ECW wasn't just a handfull of gimmicks. It was a promotion that appealled to a core audience of wrestling fans that wanted something different from the tiresome traditions of old and the Vince Mcmahon processed wwf. ECW just didn't get recognised because of pussyfoot network executives who didn't wan't to promote it.

I can't help but laugh at the fans who give Cena false credit for being a "hard worker". Cena doesn't work nearly as hard as more then half of the WWE roster, the only time Cena really risks his neck out there is he takes the odd bump every now and then. Can't wrestle, dresses terribly, oversells on the mic, can't act and is just all around terrible. He's got a great work ethic, and does alot of good things for kids and for that i give him credit. But other than that, i just can't get behind the guy, he is just to slow, stiff, awkward and incapable to wrestle properly. It clearly is not natural to him. After a while the fans start to realize that and see him for what he is, a good looking guy who got pushed massively for purely his mic skills.

This is the most true statement you can make. Yet I like Cena. The fact that he's a decent guy has a lot to do with it. What bothers me is the constant criticism of the entire product. I work for a small promotion in Ireland, its so difficult to put a good card together. That's why I don't criticize too harshly. Still I do love these commentaries!!

It's called Mainstage wrestling. They have a website and all that kind of stuff but at the moment they are just concentrating on developing the talent and putting on a good local show. I have way more respect for wrestlers after working there as a cameraman. Not that the professionals shouldn't be criticized. But like you say its a good time for wrestlers to get their publicity via the internet, hopefully the company I'm with do that in the future.

Cena had a small following when he first appeared in his rapper persona because his raps on people were funny and he made a good heel to pull for because he was smart mouthed and funny. BUT, his character was never meant to be nothing but a mid carder persona in my opinion. 3. Ryder distracts him and Kane wins

5. A video from Rocky makes Cena lose (which would have heated things up)

The WWE is a business. It's not that Cena can't cut good promos. He's excellent on the mic. His dialogue is very sterile. The WWE already knows that whether his promos are good or bad, he STILL draws ratings. Therefore, in their minds, they see no good reason in taking the courtesy to write an excellent promo for him to deliver.
Point granted, from the business standpoint they're doing great. And I agree on the Cena dialogue being sterile.
I don't want to sound like of those chliche "Attitude Era was the best" people, because I fully enjoyed WWE up until around 2005, but they used to have so many exciting storylines and characters simultaneously. That's another issue, superstars today are so generic. Spiked hair, tights and that's it. There's not much room for character development.

You are right, some people beat him clean, that's true. But they stuck so much with the development of his character, that they didn't care for developing anybody else. They did it with Punk though, once he beat Cena at MITB, he rose to Main Event status.
I think the problem lies that there was a transition between a period where there were several main event talents who could beat each other (in 2002: Austin, Rock, HHH, Angle, Taker, etc) to an era where it's just Cena>All.
@metalicass2003 That is a flaw that the WWE now encompasses in only building what sells. But, considering Cena's pulling more than Austin and Hogan, can you blame the WWE for the actions they've taken (from a business standpoint)?
People forget that it's not the WWE who "shoved" Cena down anyones throat. He was over big time with the fans much before his big franchise push. They only capitalized on that. His legion of fans have escalated him to the top spot.
Well, here I kinda disagree, after 2006, they did shove him down our throats, although it could be seen as the "Keep him at the top, so the haters will pay to boo him and see him lose" game, I know.
However, in the process of keeping him up, they forced most hardcore fans away and in came people in who are programmed to "cheer the good, boo the bad". That's why some reactions are not as good anymore, and older superstars come out and no one cheers (except in some cities)
@metalicass2003 I find that to be quite smart. Cena's character is extremely successful in getting fans to emotionally invest in him. Rollercoasters of emotions are present when Cena takes precedence.
Oh and no, I don't blame them at all. It's just that seemingly they went from doing things with effort in order to create timeless and classic moments to the minimum Effort Law, and doing things more for business than for what would be great.

I think the main problem with Cena is that he comes across as insincere in both what he says and how he says it. The whole "Rise above Hate" thing is a classic example. Why did the fans change from booing Rocky Maiva to cheering the Rock? Simple, because the Rock came out and stopped with the constant smiling and glad-handing people and said "You want to boo me? I bust my ass for you people. Screw you!"

I wouldn't say Cena's mic skills exceed the Rock's, but I think if Rock is a 10/10, Cena's an 8.5/10. Give him better material to work with!

In my opinion, most (not all) of the Cena hate is from insecure smarks who can't cope in the real world. They see an incredibly handsome, confident, sexually charismatic man who is adored by women, and it eats away at their souls. Um, ECW wasn't just a handfull of gimmicks. It was a promotion that appealled to a core audience of wrestling fans that wanted something different from the tiresome traditions of old and the Vince Mcmahon processed wwf. ECW just didn't get recognised because of pussyfoot network executives who didn't wan't to promote it.

Can't wrestle, dresses terribly, oversells on the mic, can't act and is just all around terrible. He's got a great work ethic, and does alot of good things for kids and for that i give him credit. But other than that, i just can't get behind the guy, he is just to slow, stiff, awkward and incapable to wrestle properly. It clearly is not natural to him. After a while the fans start to realize that and see him for what he is, a good looking guy who got pushed massively for purely his mic skills.

It's called Mainstage wrestling. They have a website and all that kind of stuff but at the moment they are just concentrating on developing the talent and putting on a good local show. I have way more respect for wrestlers after working there as a cameraman. Not that the professionals shouldn't be criticized. But like you say its a good time for wrestlers to get their publicity via the internet, hopefully the company I'm with do that in the future.

The problem with Cena is two things:
1. WWE sacrificed the entire roster's credibility to try and make Cena credible, and it only made the product really ludicrous...Whoever faces Cena now, you say "Cena wins clean, or the other guy wins by cheating"
2. His promos are awful...Evidently, the WWE has him at the top, only because he's a "Good worker" and the kids love him. He is not, as M. Foley would say, Championship (Let alone main event) material anymore...

I think the problem lies that there was a transition between a period where there were several main event talents who could beat each other (in 2002: Austin, Rock, HHH, Angle, Taker, etc) to an era where it's just Cena>All.

@metalicass2003 That is a flaw that the WWE now encompasses in only building what sells. But, considering Cena's pulling more than Austin and Hogan, can you blame the WWE for the actions they've taken (from a business standpoint)?
People forget that it's not the WWE who "shoved" Cena down anyones throat. He was over big time with the fans much before his big franchise push. They only capitalized on that. His legion of fans have escalated him to the top spot.

Well, here I kinda disagree, after 2006, they did shove him down our throats, although it could be seen as the "Keep him at the top, so the haters will pay to boo him and see him lose" game, I know.
However, in the process of keeping him up, they forced most hardcore fans away and in came people in who are programmed to "cheer the good, boo the bad". That's why some reactions are not as good anymore, and older superstars come out and no one cheers (except in some cities)

@metalicass2003 I find that to be quite smart. Cena's character is extremely successful in getting fans to emotionally invest in him. Rollercoasters of emotions are present when Cena takes precedence.

When Undertaker no sells a move its fine but if Cena does it for story its the end of the world. Im just tired of people blaming the guy for doing what has always been done in the wrestling business. When Stone COld was on top nobody went over him without cheating somehow.

The people on your list were around, yes...But who was the champion for far longer than what he should have? Cena. And if any of them went against Cena, they got beat every single time. It was very one sided. HHH, HBK,Y2J, Orton, JBL. The others just weren't in RAW's title picture.

The other point is that he's not very good at cutting promos and most of his gags don't come out as funny as they probably seem in Mcmahon's head ("Kentucky longrifle is that an e-mail?" Him imitating Umaga like the Tasmanian Devil, etc.)
When he was forced to retire after battling Nexus, I would have capitalized on that and have him deliver a promo in which he incites his fans to never give up, and how you may not always win, but you can come around again and persevere(Cont'd)

I think the main problem with Cena is that he comes across as insincere in both what he says and how he says it. The whole "Rise above Hate" thing is a classic example. Why did the fans change from booing Rocky Maiva to cheering the Rock? Simple, because the Rock came out and stopped with the constant smiling and glad-handing people and said "You want to boo me? I bust my ass for you people. Screw you!"

They're in miami, The Rocks hometown on a pay per view, the majority of the crowd always boos Cena, if Cena were to win that would start a full scale riot, I'd go as far as to say it would make the L.A. Riots look like childs play. 2. The age difference isn't that big. I'm sure Cena is a nice guy in real life, and I'm sure he works really hard. But he isn't a good character and he's a not a great worker or a good actor.

Coming out of university and heading in to the corporate world, this man's blue-collar work ethic is what I aspire to. As for his character; even though it is sterile, it is extremely successful considering how Cena is able to get fans to invest in the gimmick. Look at how worked up everyone gets.

Bingo! He is exactly marketed as a PG, clean cut guy. That's why us as men can't stand his character. He doesn't have to be like Rock or Austin, but some edge would be nice. That's why heel rapping Cena, and even a little while after he turned face and still rapped, were good gimmicks for him. His character sucks, and the material he's given sucks. I wouldn't say Cena's mic skills exceed the Rock's, but I think if Rock is a 10/10, Cena's an 8.5/10. Give him better material to work with!

In my opinion, most (not all) of the Cena hate is from insecure smarks who can't cope in the real world. They see an incredibly handsome, confident, sexually charismatic man who is adored by women, and it eats away at their souls. It's like all their inadequacies are reinforced every time Cena's on screen.
He can't wrestle? A crock, and a way for the jealousy to be justified. Cena is a good worker, and better than Hogan, Austin or (yes) Rock ever were. Dissing his mic work is even more absurd.
