Floating towards an unknown planet (which is obviously of forerunner origin :P) Cortana might still be alive, I know the AI's have lifespans, and hers would have been shortened by absorbing all of Halos information. (someone correct me if I'm wrong) So she might be alive, but we have no idea how long has passed.
